# How the interface shows work, and what the user can configure (`ui.display_settings`)

Feedback Bench, coding agents, built 2026-10-01, window 2026-08-31 to 2026-09-27. Web page: https://feedbackbench.com/#/criterion/ui.display_settings

Area: [Interface and sessions](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/interface.md)

**Definition.** How the CLI, TUI, IDE panel or app shows the agent's activity (tool calls, diffs, logs, subagent progress, scrolling, fonts, layout) and which settings, keybindings, themes and presets the user can change.

**Boundary.** Not this: see [Usage meter visibility and accuracy](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/limits.usage_meter.md) for usage displays. Not this: see [Saving, switching, resuming and rewinding sessions](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/ui.session_history.md) for saving and resuming sessions. Not this: see [Reasoning effort setting and its defaults](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/models.effort_control.md) for reasoning-effort settings.

## The brief

Written by Claude Opus 5.5 from 110 labelled posts and the numbers on this page. Interpretation, not measurement: every quote is verbatim and links to its post.

**Visibility wins; redesigns, animations and hidden steps lose users.**

TL;DR:

- The top complaint is hidden work: users cannot follow tool calls, terminals or subagents mid-run.
- Redesigns that drop old layouts or keybindings draw backlash, and users ask for the old UI back.
- Claude Code, Cline and Pi win on visible progress and control. OpenAI Codex and Google Antigravity trail.

In plain terms: In practice, you either watch the agent work or you don't. Users praise progress bars, agent views and tool traces. They complain when steps collapse, layouts vanish after updates, animations twitch, or copied CLI text breaks.

### How it breaks

- **The agent works where you cannot see** ([How the interface shows work, and what the user can configure](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/ui.display_settings.md)). The worst failure is opacity. Users lose track of what the agent is touching and end up asking it to narrate its own terminal.
Posts describe terminals the agent opens but users cannot inspect, execution steps trimmed so far that a long run turns into a mess nobody followed, and subagents that report no status at all. In Zed, users say a setting to collapse command output does not hold, so chat floods with directory noise. Verbose tool-call views and subagent status are standing requests across several agents.
  Evidence:
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/google_antigravity, 2026-09-19: “in other ides like vscode + copilot i can inspect the terminals the agent uses to run commands. so when an agent starts a build, i can watch the progress myself, can potentially cancel etc. in antigravity i can see that the agent has a terminal open, but have no clue what is going on in it / what the progress is. when i need to know, i have to ask the agent to repeat the console output to me.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wk1y1u/antigravity_2_release_v2150/patexny/)
  - Complaint, OpenAI Codex, r/codex, 2026-09-23: “be careful. i've been testing it all morning and it's enough to make you cry. it takes the initiative to modify programming without having consulted the architecture documentation or pdd. the responses are similar to a luna from three weeks ago, but it's not safe to let it work because it performs operations it shouldn't (modifying documentation outside the working directory, for example) when what is asked is to consult, not to modify. and worst of all, i like to verify what it is doing at every moment by reading its steps in execution, and that is something they have limited quite a bit. now you can hardly follow what it is touching or what it is considering doing or what problem it has encountered and what it is doing. with this, you end up after 30 minutes with an incredible mess because you couldn't follow what it was building. i don't know, it's really disappointing me.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wnkoh8/anyone_tried_gpt6_sol_yet/pbjy8yl/)
  - Complaint, Zed, r/ZedEditor, 2026-09-16: “when i work with claude or codex inside zen 90% of the chat is « this directory « commands even tho i choose collapse commands outputs in the settings, please fix that as its unusable this way <strict_link>” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ZedEditor/comments/1whv207/i_love_zed_but/pa75qjv/)

- **Redesigns that delete the old way** ([How the interface shows work, and what the user can configure](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/ui.display_settings.md)). Updates that remove a layout or shift a key binding break muscle memory, and users push back hard.
OpenCode users ask why the left-sidebar layout was replaced by tabs with no toggle. GitHub Copilot users call a spacebar change a regression. OpenAI Codex users pick apart a thread toggle that forces repeated on-off switching. Restoring the previous UI is one of the most common requests on this page, and OpenCode accounts for half of it.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-01: “the spacebar thing is such a dumb regression. muscle memory from the old ui is gonna mess me up for weeks.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w3rn3x/new_mcp_ui_is_terrible/p73d5zc/)
  - Complaint, OpenCode, r/opencode, 2026-09-14: “i also don't get why the old layout was removed as an option. all the other desktop versions do left sidebar. it was much easier to manage many sessions at a glance. i'm sure i'm missing something, but am having trouble finding a good explanation for why the old had to be removed for tabs. many browsers and other apps allow switching between horizontal and vertical tabs” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1wfxx24/has_the_legacy_gui_with_sidebar_been_removed_from/p9q4x8v/)
  - Complaint, OpenAI Codex, r/codex, 2026-09-26: “it's really horrible. that vertical bar that's 80% empty needs to go. user profile and help should be on the task bar. codex/chatgpt swap should be on the task bar too. search should be on the "new chat" line. then those buttons should be where codex/chatgpt are. the ctrl+b (toggle showing threads) is also horrible. if you hide it, you have to keep toggling it on/off to change threads rather than having a simple hover to open it temporarily, or a single click for a drop-down menu that collapses when you select a session or leave it. claude handles ctrl+b much better. how are people paid $300k+ designing *this*? i could have fixed all of these in under an hour and never made all these mistakes to begin with.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wqtyo7/new_codex_ui/pc7byy0/)
  - Complaint, OpenCode, r/opencode, 2026-09-25: “opencode desktop is pretty lame. the interface is awful, and it keeps getting regressions between updates (mainly infinite error pop-ups and deleted threads). i tried using it for a couple of months, even the beta. not worth the trouble. openchamber doesn't support opencode v2 yet (it's in preview), though you can keep using v1 just fine until v2 support lands. since openchamber is just a gui for opencode, it will use your current agent setup and all your subscriptions as-is. there's no need to change things, although it makes it easy to configure agents and advanced stuff.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1wpt89d/opencode_desktop_vs_opencode_v2_desktop_vs/pbyhp5a/)

- **Motion that users want switched off** ([How the interface shows work, and what the user can configure](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/ui.display_settings.md)). Decorative animations and tool panels that expand and collapse read as noise, and some users say they cause physical discomfort.
A Cursor user says nonstop jumpy animations made them feel unwell. OpenAI Codex CLI users call its whimsy effect useless and ask for a way to disable it. GitHub Copilot users find tool calls that keep expanding and collapsing distracting. The animation-off request comes overwhelmingly from Codex users.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, Cursor, r/cursor, 2026-09-25: “i might be wrong, but you are probably asking "why?". if so: because animations are so...jumpy and it happens non-stop, which made me feel unwell and i'm not exaggerating” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1wq4q4t/reddit_told_me_my_website_was_overdesigned_so_i/pc13e2j/)
  - Complaint, OpenAI Codex, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app, 2026-09-14: “@thsottiaux absolutely useless and incredibly annoying whimsy effect. does anyone on the team actually use codex cli? 🫪 <strict_link>” [source](https://twitter.com/32768593/status/2099396014549405850)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-10: “while i do like this update, i'm not a fan of the new chat tool ui constantly expanding and then collapsing the tool calls, kinda distracting. and i was hoping "support for selecting the session model used by built-in subagents in the copilot agent harness" would let us select luna for subagents like the vscode settings do, but instead the setting is a checkbox that look like it's for inheriting the model from the parent session, so it'll only be luna if the parent is? so i guess i'll continue manually specifying it in my prompt or maybe add it to my instructions...” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wbflxk/github_copilot_for_jetbrains_v1170_updates/p8uxvfj/)

- **Small terminal frictions that compound** ([How the interface shows work, and what the user can configure](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/ui.display_settings.md)). Broken copy, colliding hotkeys and missing alerts sound minor. Users run into them every session.
Claude Code users want CLI text that copies without hard line breaks. They say a feedback prompt mapped onto the same number keys used for plan choices produced accidental ratings. Others can get a sound when a task finishes but not when a permission prompt is waiting, so they have to stay at the window. Clean copy and customizable keybindings recur as requests.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, Claude Code, @ClaudeDevs, 2026-09-03: “day 1 of requesting a claude code fix: let us copy cli text without line breaks. @claudedevs @bcherny” [source](https://twitter.com/118820291/status/2095653895292977513)
  - Complaint, Claude Code, r/ClaudeCode, 2026-09-17: “i like the feedback part. as far as i am concerned, 99% of those who received from me were sent by mistake. in cc-cli they had the brilliant idea to put the choices on the 1-2-3 keys which are the ones used to respond to claude during planning, where bad is 1 and also the recommended option, the absurdity is that it was often shown during very good sessions (a/b tests?)” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wiujum/claude_code_is_falling_behind_codex_not_because/padek3l/)
  - Complaint, Claude Code, r/ClaudeCode, 2026-09-10: “i managed to tweak something so that claude code plays a sound when it finishes a big task, but i can't figure out a way to play a sound when it's asking for a permission / asking to execute a command. it's so annoying... i have to stay in front of the window to allow things. is there anyway to improve this? thanks.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wcg610/play_a_sound_when_asking_for_a_permission/)

### Who stands out

- **Claude Code (stronger)**. Users credit Claude Code's agent view, progress bar and desktop session awareness with making parallel work legible.
Posts praise an agent view that is hard to replicate elsewhere and a desktop app that surfaces other sessions and hands off next steps. A new loading bar earned thanks of its own. Gripes are small and concrete: copy formatting, hotkey collisions and permission alerts. One Cursor user says Claude's consumer UI has fallen behind on viewing subagents.
  Evidence:
  - Praise, Claude Code, @ClaudeDevs, 2026-09-24: “i use herdr and hav notifications etc. but thanks to whoever added the loading/progress bar in @claudedevs code 🙏 <strict_link>” [source](https://twitter.com/1712821772544802816/status/2103181433166594461)
  - Praise, Claude Code, r/codex, 2026-08-31: “yeah i like claude code's harness, especially the agent views which is kindda hard to replicate. even things like herdr aren't quite the same workflow. cc's agent view makes it so easy to work on tasks very quickly i keep crashing my computer by using up too much ram (its always about ram prices, isn't it?) i don't like codex, lots of rendering bugs and missing features, which is what led me to pi.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1w2m3ba/i_tested_4_ai_coding_harnesses_codex_pi_claude/p6wmlxy/)
  - Praise, Claude Code, r/ClaudeCode, 2026-09-27: “i use both vs code and claude desktop app. there are things i like about claude desktop app, it has the browser window where you can watch it do stuff, it also feels like it sees more whats going on with other sessions, i also like its suggestions there will be little pop ups in the top right after its finished a session and there is more work it will provide a pop up that gives all the info and you just press start and it passes it to next session. overall i think the desktop app is very good.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wrhtyd/new_to_claude_why_should_we_use_claude_code_over/pcd54jv/)
  - Praise, Cursor, r/cursor, 2026-09-16: “i used to be 100% on the claude code bandwagon. it had much better infrastructure and no other harness came close. i'll say now they still have really fantastic infrastructure overall, but their ui experience for consumers seems to have fallen behind. cursor has a better integration for viewing what your sub-agents are doing. diffs are easier to view, and it matches claude in the harness piece as well. i'd say, overall, the biggest advantage right now in cursor is the project feature, which they just launched, and the ability to fully interact with spawned sub-agents. in claude (and even codex) you can't really do this, at least not as well as you can in cursor.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1whtb6c/whats_better_about_cursor_than_claude_code/pa58lmx/)

- **Cline (stronger)**. The new Cline desktop app draws praise for a native feel and personal customization, plus one call for visible tool-call traces.
Users call the desktop UX smooth and the customization personal. One argues the real differentiator is a visible trace of tool calls with a clean failure boundary. Critics say the launch looks beta and point to polish details like logo alignment and app icons. One user flags an IME bug that submits messages early.
  Evidence:
  - Praise, Cline, @cline, 2026-09-14: “@cline a desktop wrapper matters if it makes local runs easier to inspect and restart. the differentiator for me is not the model menu; it’s a visible trace of tool calls plus a clean failure boundary.” [source](https://twitter.com/2046212002859610112/status/2099544185506341226)
  - Praise, Cline, @cline, 2026-09-21: “@cline nice customization touch that makes the desktop experience feel personal” [source](https://twitter.com/2053889379836596224/status/2102089661267259466)
  - Complaint, Cline, @cline, 2026-09-18: “@cline cline desktop has a very poor design. i wish people had used it before its release; it looks very much like a beta version right now” [source](https://twitter.com/2075232388582375425/status/2101011168408080592)
  - Complaint, Cline, @cline, 2026-09-14: “hey cline team — really excited to see the new desktop app! 👋 i noticed a small ime handling issue on macos: when using a chinese input method, pressing enter to commit the current composition can sometimes also trigger message submission, especially when mixing english input with a chinese ime enabled.would be great if the composer could better account for the ime composition state (iscomposing / compositionend) before handling enter-to-submit. hope this helps!” [source](https://twitter.com/554153644/status/2099544357154205910)

- **Pi (stronger)**. Pi earns credit for customization and nested subagent tracing, though users also hit walls where its display cannot be changed.
Users say other harnesses borrow Pi's customization approach, and they praise nesting subagents under the turn that spawned them. The flip side shows in other posts. One user reports no subagent progress display, another could not restyle terminal decorations without forking, and a third jokes about spending every token customizing it.
  Evidence:
  - Praise, Pi, @pidotdev, 2026-09-04: “the fact that other harnesses take a page from @pidotdev for harness customization explains the supremacy of pi's core design principles. absolutely love that pi's inspiring a trend that is welcome across every engineer's mental model! :)” [source](https://twitter.com/168024654/status/2095766869915599208)
  - Praise, Pi, @pidotdev, 2026-09-15: “@langfuse @pidotdev @mmilanagm nesting subagents under the spawning turn is the part most tracing setups skip, and it's the part you need at 3am. without it a slow session is one flat pile of calls and you can't tell a retry storm from a legitimately deep chain.” [source](https://twitter.com/999516867977973760/status/2099725267359158650)
  - Complaint, Pi, r/PiCodingAgent, 2026-09-02: “coming back around to pi after playing a little with oh-my-pi, and i did quite like the pretty terminal output decorations. i tried to task an agent to alter the decorations in pi but it doesn't seem to be possible outside of forking pi as a whole? is this true? this thing: <strict_link> i would like to change it's appearance based on the exit code / other info but i can't seem to alter it.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/PiCodingAgent/comments/1w4voqx/is_customizing_tui_decorations_even_possible/)

- **OpenAI Codex (weaker)**. The OpenAI Codex desktop app wins fans for side chat and inline explanations, while the CLI draws most of the display complaints.
App users praise side chat and the select-to-explain feature, and some prefer the app to the CLI. The complaints are about rendering bugs, whimsy animations, a cramped sidebar and trimmed execution steps. Codex users also lead requests for subagent status visibility and an animation off switch. One switcher calls OpenCode's UI simply better.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, OpenAI Codex, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app, 2026-09-18: “cheating for the first time in my ai life: switching from codex to opencode + deepseek 4.1 flash. my findings: 1. @opencode is beautiful! love the ui—why is this so much better than the codex cli? 2. deepseek is... still can’t believe how cheap this is.” [source](https://twitter.com/1370264912992346114/status/2100906361798160876)
  - Praise, OpenAI Codex, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app, 2026-09-03: “codex app, the side chat is conveniently understated. i don't want to mess up the main conversation. but i want to ask a little question while sharing the same premise. that's when the side chat is just right. it seems like many people are finding this quite useful.” [source](https://twitter.com/1123430119849304064/status/2095313990943740111)

- **Google Antigravity (weaker)**. Google Antigravity users report less visibility, both into the code itself and into what the agent's terminal is doing.
Posts say the IDE makes code hard to see. Some users prefer the CLI to the 2.0 desktop app because it keeps them in the loop. Others report a command that renders incorrectly and inconsistent window dragging on macOS. Elsewhere, a user says they must ask the agent to repeat terminal output because they cannot inspect it directly.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, Google Antigravity, r/ClaudeAI, 2026-09-23: “now it makes sense why some ides (antigravity) make it hard to see the code .. we are realizing that it is so rare why waste the space? so now my code view in vscode is the browser tab” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1wndhjz/30_years_of_coding_obsolete_but_at_least_my/pbmc766/)
  - Praise, Google Antigravity, r/google_antigravity, 2026-09-01: “antigravity 2.0 doesn't make sense to me for any serious project. antigravity cli gives you must more visibility into what you are doing and keep you in loop with the codebase. i will choose cli over whatever they are trying to do with antigravity 2.0 any day.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1w4ikza/antigravity_20_vs_cli_for_large_projects/p77wiyh/)
  - Complaint, Google Antigravity, @antigravity, 2026-09-01: “@antigravity @rodydavis @nohedev the /boost command does not render correctly in the ui and the command's functionality does not seem to be working yet.. <strict_link>” [source](https://twitter.com/2083977068271034368/status/2094576267735757145)
  - Complaint, Google Antigravity, r/google_antigravity, 2026-09-10: “<strict_link> on mac os, only the green area can be used to drag the window when the window is active. while when the window is inactive, the green and orange area can be used to drag and move the window. but when you fold the left sidebar, there is no way to drag and move the window when it is active. i think this is an unexpected and inconsistent behavior.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wcc0ze/drag_and_move_the_window_antigravity/)

### Fine print

- Evidence spans about four weeks in which several agents shipped major UI versions, so reactions to launches may be overrepresented.
- Desktop apps, CLIs and IDE panels share one agent label, so praise for one surface and complaints about another get blended.
- Some posts compare harnesses in passing rather than reviewing the named agent's interface directly.

## Top requests

What users ask to add or change, most asked first. 1241 author-weeks ask for something. Requests do not change the Feedback Score. Rule: A separate pass by Claude Sonnet 5 reads every counted post and extracts what the author asks the agent or its vendor to add or change, with the criteria it maps to and a short normalised wording; it does not touch the labels or the Feedback Score. Claude Opus 5.5 groups the wordings within each criterion (the first criterion the request maps to) into themes; code counts them. A theme counts distinct author-weeks that ask for it, per agent; across agents, one author-week per agent. Themes asked in fewer than 2 author-weeks, and requests that share no theme, are not shown. Examples: up to 3 posts per theme from different authors, without slurs, preferring posts of 60 to 450 characters, most recent first.

### 1. More color themes and theme customization

- Zed, 2026-09-27, r/ZedEditor (Reddit): “i'd love to see some built-in themes with higher contrast. comments in particular are barely readable with the default one light and one dark themes.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ZedEditor/comments/1wo7jua/what_do_you_think_is_missing_in_zed_editor/pcghn45/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-27, r/LocalLLaMA (Reddit): “i try to codex but i dont if its just me but the interface is plain just black and white. can i change the colors of the terminal similar to open code?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/LocalLLaMA/comments/1wrfp50/another_harness_matters_post_codex_cli_pi_and/pccovlo/)
- Factory, 2026-09-25, @droid (X): “@droid will we ever see themes in the desktop app? i love the layout but sometimes my eyes don’t adjust well to the colors! would love to see some sort of theme customization similar to vs code” [source](https://twitter.com/1696886920742055937/status/2103589593228431390)

### 2. Option to restore previous UI design

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-27, r/codex (Reddit): “i hate the new cli, it just feels off and wrong. i know that's not a very technical explanation but it's true. i preferred the old cli, it was solid.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wrl6ch/latest_linux_codex_cli_seems_to_have_several_bugs/pcfd666/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-26, r/codex (Reddit): “i don't know who approved the new ui, but... why? a sidebar with a sidebar is a criminal ux offense. is there a way to bring it back to previous state? i couldn't find it going through all the menus...” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wr57y7/new_ui_in_codex_is/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-26, r/OpenAI (Reddit): “the new codex update is brutally ugly please give me the old ui back 😭 does anyone know if there’s a setting to switch back to the old ui, or are we just stuck with the new one now? if anyone’s found a workaround, please share.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/OpenAI/comments/1wqxm3f/the_new_codex_update_is_brutally_ugly/)

### 3. Show full model reasoning by default

- Factory, 2026-09-27, @FactoryAI (X): “@droid @factoryai droid is genuinely useful for larger, multi-file tasks and does a good job staying on track without constant guidance. the biggest improvement for me would be better visibility into its reasoning/progress and more predictable results on longer tasks :)” [source](https://twitter.com/2093736525116702720/status/2104324409502970188)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-25, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “sometime in the past month or so, reasoning summaries for gpt models such as luna have vanished, both for 5.6 and 6. is there some way to turn these back on? thanks. u/bogganpierce” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wpmqhu/reasoning_summaries_have_vanished_for_gpt_models/)
- Claude Code, 2026-09-23, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “rather than forcing in new features, i'd like you to stop breaking the ones that already exist. i'm not against adding new features, but please don't make what we already have worse. the thinking process now only shows a simplified summary, which makes it hard to see where the model is getting stuck. this is a real problem for me. you don't need to pile on more. just please don't ruin what's already here. that's how i feel.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wob3hx/dear_claude_guys_please_dont_change_anything/pbm6rhw/)

### 4. Overall UI redesign and polish

- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-26, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “the title says it. but antigravity has been looking the same since it has been released. i'm not saying it looks bad, but they can make some ui changes.. right?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wqsaxr/do_yall_think_that_ag_is_getting_an_update/)
- OpenCode, 2026-09-25, r/opencode (Reddit): “dead ends. chaotic design. the zen section that disappears. the histogram of daily consumption, which was one of the few functional things, has changed. but why don't they use a bit of ai to fix it?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1wq4vjb/ma_perché_il_sito_web_di_opencode_fa_così_pena/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-25, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “@ajambrosino i like the new design on codex app but it is a bit janky, needs to be polished more.” [source](https://twitter.com/40213456/status/2103603190251794937)

### 5. Subagent progress and status visibility

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-16, r/vibecoding (Reddit): “the claude code vscode extension ui is absolute chaos when subagents start spamming. if you end up vibe coding a new extension for it count me in lol, i literally ended up daisy chaining codex, claude code and moclaw through cli just so i wouldn’t have to deal with that scroll nightmare every 5 mins. opus 5 regressing is super real though, still gotta pin to 4-8 every time.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/vibecoding/comments/1whgeuy/literally_any_reason_to_use_claude_code_instead/pa3ui1a/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-13, r/codex (Reddit): “as the title says - is there a way to check what model and effort level a codex subagent is actually using? edit: just to clarify - i’m using the (windows) codex app.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wfflq0/how_do_i_check_the_model_and_effort_level_of_a/)
- Claude Code, 2026-09-10, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “sometimes, when the agent is running sub-agents in background, there is no activity indicator at all. you don't know if there really is background activity or not. i think there should *always* be some kind of activity indicator. [example](<strict_link>)” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wckhja/suggestion_for_the_vscode_extension/)

### 6. Clean text selection and copy in CLI

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-27, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “hey codex cli people, interactive text selection is very bad bring back regular one: macos click + shift click to copy selection, many terminals copy-paste selection by default you broke all of that 😬” [source](https://twitter.com/2787250856/status/2104301514688983194)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-27, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “@thsottiaux who thought disabling cmd+c in the codex cli was a good idea? 😅 it’s such a small thing, but it makes the workflow surprisingly inconvenient. would love to see the usual copy shortcut restored.” [source](https://twitter.com/2031592943312842753/status/2104216017048383951)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-26, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “please make the text in grill-me "options" selectable. it used to be a month or two ago. now only the question is selectable. most of the times, i need to take parts out of different options to make up my response and now i need to type it out (not the biggest task, but would definitely be helpful). platform: macos” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wqsaxr/do_yall_think_that_ag_is_getting_an_update/pc6wpo8/)

### 7. Sidebar project grouping, sorting and filtering

- Claude Code, 2026-09-26, @ClaudeDevs (X): “also, @claudedevs, please make it so that grouping by folder on the sidebar takes into account my manual sub-work trees. right now, claude treats all of those as the same "folder" all under the parent project directory. i much prefer codex's implementation where each worktree is classified as it's own folder on the sidebar.” [source](https://twitter.com/532644970/status/2103898889279655950)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-25, @antigravity (X): “@rseroter @antigravity have you tried it? interested in your thought because i exclusively use the cli. project organization in the desktop would be great but it can’t seem to handle multi model cli agent calls.” [source](https://twitter.com/178086973/status/2103475373023588381)
- Zed, 2026-09-25, @zeddotdev (X): “@zeddotdev please, does this include the infinitely annoying sidebar that merges opened projects?” [source](https://twitter.com/450816884/status/2103440879818080465)

### 8. Clearer live progress of agent activity

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-27, r/codex (Reddit): “been like that for a while. i think it's since they released that oai codex harness api. think that might be what's powering it behind the scenes. the only issue i have is with longer running sessions ( i have some go 1h30+ min) is the ux sometimes don't update then it's a guess and wait game.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wrk74r/gpt_6_pro_on_chat_is_now_spawning_subagents/pcef2kv/)
- Cursor, 2026-09-27, @cursor_ai (X): “dear cursor team, please add feedback to your agents - might be because i suck with coding, but if an agent doesn't respond and doesnt give me visual feedback that is terrible ux because i won't know that it doesn't do what i want it to do until it's already done it @cursor_ai” [source](https://twitter.com/1848033478865993728/status/2104196348778266844)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-27, @antigravity (X): “agy's interface is so clean but i don't get enough feedback while it's working i can't see what it's doing, what it's writing, or where it's at the ui is beautiful, but i want more visibility into the process. @antigravity <strict_link>” [source](https://twitter.com/1982427257387061249/status/2104129779276624263)

### 9. Customizable keybindings

- Zed, 2026-09-26, r/cursor (Reddit): “zed also had interesting take on this, where you have to reveal a suggestion by pressing some key combo (which should be customizable, because you just leave my tab alone).” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1wquwo9/autocomplete/pc8t9sf/)
- Zed, 2026-09-25, @zeddotdev (X): “@zeddotdev wish these pls · compare all changed files against a commit/branch/revision in one multi-file diff view · open a file’s history and diff two versions, or compare an old version with my working tree · make these commands so we can bind our own shortcuts” [source](https://twitter.com/2543890370/status/2103369091142803785)
- Zed, 2026-09-23, @zeddotdev (X): “@mauriciord @zeddotdev custom keybinding to rename a terminal thread in zed 1.21 small agent-panel qol that people will feel every day” [source](https://twitter.com/1675906158304038912/status/2102895762938175921)

### 10. Option to disable decorative animations

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-20, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “who was the genius at openai that decided to put sparkles in the codex cli jfc these people man” [source](https://twitter.com/50339173/status/2101475516486189203)
- Amp, 2026-09-19, @AmpCode (X): “@ampcode @claudeai @openaidevs the title spinner is cute but it can have unforeseen consequences λ. credit where due: codex has `tui.terminal_title`, claude has `claude_code_disable_terminal_title` (undocumented), amp has nothing yet.” [source](https://twitter.com/16558673/status/2101380928761106902)
- Zed, 2026-09-18, @zeddotdev (X): “@zeddotdev the flag helps, but it should also respect system reduced motion settings” [source](https://twitter.com/1803494630366785536/status/2100911537577656527)

### 11. Pin, sort and hide models in picker

- Factory, 2026-09-27, @droid (X): “the latest version of droid seems to place the recently used models at the top. after the recently used models are at the top, the custom list below no longer has the names of these models, which i find a bit counterintuitive. at first, i couldn't find the model i used and was a bit confused. later, i found it at the top, hahaha @droid” [source](https://twitter.com/1889310672368095232/status/2104031932074107173)
- OpenCode, 2026-09-26, r/opencode (Reddit): “that’s what i don’t understand. there isn’t any equivalent ? if the list of enabled/disabled models was saved somewhere, that’d be enough for me, but they don’t even seem to do that…” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1wqgnpv/model_whitelisting_broken/pc6ci40/)
- Factory, 2026-09-26, @FactoryAI (X): “okay until the update today it didn’t show up for me, but i also only use cli so the model selector is a little different. if i could off a suggestion, i would like to see 2 columns and you can just tab between the two and one side is dedicated to all the droid core models, would help me see them a lot easier and then maybe a third for the custom models you add” [source](https://twitter.com/587982527/status/2103960664452546913)

### 12. Verbose view of tool calls and command output

- Claude Code, 2026-09-22, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i used to see a very detailed set of 'view options' in claude code desktop on macos (image 1). today, i only see a very limited set (image 2). were the detailed ones removed? or is it some sort of bug?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wnf0ux/were_the_detailed_view_options_removed_in_claude/)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-19, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “in other ides like vscode + copilot i can inspect the terminals the agent uses to run commands. so when an agent starts a build, i can watch the progress myself, can potentially cancel etc. in antigravity i can see that the agent has a terminal open, but have no clue what is going on in it / what the progress is. when i need to know, i have to ask the agent to repeat the console output to me.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wk1y1u/antigravity_2_release_v2150/patexny/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-19, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “@rodydavis you haven't even done the /statusline function well until now, and during the usage, you only see a string of tool calls, with no output in between when the model is working, making it difficult for users to perceive whether the model's behavior has deviated. if you want to know what a good user experience is, please take a look at codex cli and claude code.” [source](https://twitter.com/1518816186481483777/status/2101149410143158349)

- Praise, 2026-09-27, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “yah, i was the cli for a long time, then, recently, i switched to the desktop and i'm really happy with it, the simple dictation, easy to see running tasks, usage, and all the sessions for a specific project in one place has been really helpful. idk if you havent tried it lately, worth a shot again!” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wovn0s/claude_code_integration_with_iterm2_is/pca0gfu/)
