# IDE and editor integration (`setup.ide_integration`)

Feedback Bench, coding agents, built 2026-10-01, window 2026-08-31 to 2026-09-27. Web page: https://feedbackbench.com/#/criterion/setup.ide_integration

Area: [Setting up and connecting](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/setup.md)

**Definition.** How the agent works inside an editor or IDE, including extension support, editor-native features, autocomplete and feature parity across IDEs.

**Boundary.** Not this: see [Reviewing and approving the agent's changes](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/verify.change_review_ui.md) for diff and approval views. Not this: see ui.terminal_display for CLI rendering.

Rated author-weeks, all agents: 713. Complaint share: 54%.

## The brief

Written by Claude Opus 5.5 from 102 labelled posts and the numbers on this page. Interpretation, not measurement: every quote is verbatim and links to its post.

**Agents ship editor plugins; users keep finding the CLI does more.**

TL;DR:

- Cursor wins by keeping a real editor, tab completion and inline diffs around the agent.
- Google Antigravity draws the most complaints, from an extension that behaves differently than its own IDE.
- Parity is the top ask. Users want every surface to match the CLI.

In plain terms: Install an agent's editor plugin and you often get a reduced version of the agent. Users report missing tools, lost code navigation and abandoned plugins. Many end up running the CLI inside their editor's terminal instead.

### How it breaks

- **Extensions trail their own CLI** ([IDE and editor integration](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/setup.ide_integration.md)). The same agent behaves differently depending on the surface, and the editor plugin is usually the weaker copy.
Users say the Claude Code desktop and extension surfaces feel laggy and lack the tool support of the CLI. Antigravity's VS Code extension does not allow gradual acceptance or hand edits mid-change, which its own IDE does. Copilot users on Visual Studio call it a third-class citizen, with features landing long after VS Code. The pattern is consistent. Vendors build the CLI first and port features later.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, Claude Code, r/ClaudeCode, 2026-09-25: “i don't even find it useful on mac, i won't expect any better on linux.. it is bulky laggy and lacks the full support of tools like its cli version does.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wppsdk/is_the_claude_code_desktop_app_for_linux_good_its/pbxgyq1/)
  - Complaint, Google Antigravity, r/google_antigravity, 2026-09-01: “in vscode, the extension does not behave the same as in the ide. when the agent makes changes, it shows the code in the files, both the new and the old, with the unsaved file, and with linter errors. if you modify something without accepting and then request a change, it starts to give conflicts when making the change. it is only useful for those who do not code by hand, and for that, agy 2 is already available. for those who use the ide to edit code, it is completely useless since it does not allow you to accept changes gradually while requesting changes (agy ide does allow this) nor modify anything. for that, agy 2 is already available. the extension is a joke nowadays, at least in vscode.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1w3xjkl/is_antigravity_ide_not_getting_updates/p74mzqe/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-08: “end your suffering and don't use copilot in vs. it's a third class citizen, for example planning mode came like one year after ot was in vscode. you don't even have to use vscode anymore, install the ghc desktop app, it integrates with vs to open files in vs (yes i mean vs not vscode). source: while i use vscode extensively i stll use vs lot because it's the tool i use since forever, i'm comfortable with it and many things are still better than vscode imo (the debugging experience for example). for for ghc it's a useless shitshow” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1waqq4w/visual_studio_thinkingreasoning_level_seems_to/p8n3gra/)

- **Plugins vanish or break after rebrands** ([IDE and editor integration](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/setup.ide_integration.md)). When a vendor shifts to a new app or fork, existing editor plugins stop working and users are left without a migration path.
A former Windsurf user reports the IntelliJ plugin no longer works and no Devin plugin replaced it. Another says a Devin fork update broke the Codex extension that still runs in the CLI. Antigravity users describe the IDE as effectively abandoned in favour of an extension-only strategy. Restoring discontinued IDEs and extensions shows up as a request across several agents.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, Devin, r/windsurf, 2026-09-15: “i'm a little confused. i had a windsurf account, and a plugin for intellij. now that seems to be a devin account and there's no devin plugin and the windsurf plugin doesn't work anymore. right? are there expecting me to download devin desktop and drop intellij?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/windsurf/comments/1tzk0cx/why_did_windsurf_become_devin_desktop_and_can/pa150f4/)
  - Complaint, Devin, r/windsurf, 2026-09-06: “please do a better update that i could use the codex extension on the devin fork. it work in the cli but on on the devin fork so fix it cauese i use both devin and the extension of codex in your vs fork and its annoying it doesnt work there and i canr use astra cauese the version is too old. for sure its something with your update so please fix it...” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/windsurf/comments/1w8rx71/cant_use_astra_on_codex_extension_on_the_devin/)
  - Praise, Google Antigravity, r/google_antigravity, 2026-09-01: “what do you mean "real ide". antigravity ide is a real ide. it works great with wsl out of the box, too. i mean, it's clear that it's pretty much dead, but that's more down to google not wanting to support a fully fledged vscode fork and rather publishes the extension only.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1w3xjkl/is_antigravity_ide_not_getting_updates/p7521gz/)

- **Agent views drop editor basics** ([IDE and editor integration](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/setup.ide_integration.md)). Agent-first windows strip out the navigation, hover types and syntax highlighting that make an editor worth using.
Users keep VS Code open because agent apps lack go-to-definition, hover types, git blame and glitch-free large diffs. Cursor users say its agentic view loses syntax highlighting, quick jumps and language tooling, and one built their own fix for .NET support. The agent pane gets the polish while the editor underneath gets thinner.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, OpenAI Codex, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app, 2026-09-15: “@arpit_bhayani px0 sounds great but theres a reason i'm sticking to vscode, even codex app has a built-in diff viewer that has similar problems, i want to view large diffs without glitches, see types on symbol hover, go-to definition, see git blame, pr comments, edit diff” [source](https://twitter.com/1551268048694579200/status/2099982444275618088)
  - Complaint, Cursor, @cursor_ai, 2026-09-08: “@cursor_ai this is how it looks in original, no syntax, no quick jump actions. making me sad :( <strict_link>” [source](https://twitter.com/36333025/status/2097308192350904659)
  - Complaint, Cursor, @cursor_ai, 2026-09-08: “one thing that bugged me in @cursor_ai is that in agentic view (glass as it is called internally) i do not have full support of file search, quick code jump and all other .net goodies incl .razor files edit. so i created my own version, implemented integration with .net tooling and voila, have it all now and am happy bunny. hey @cursor_ai if you want to know how to, let me know, will give you the tools” [source](https://twitter.com/36333025/status/2097307459480084979)

- **Workspace and window coupling bites** ([IDE and editor integration](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/setup.ide_integration.md)). Agents bind sessions to editor windows and workspaces in ways that lose chats or force unwanted connections.
Copilot chats are tied to workspaces, and VS Code generates different workspaces depending on how a folder is opened, so history appears to vanish. Claude Code auto-connects to the IDE until users find an environment flag to turn it off. A Conductor user wants Cursor's agents window decoupled so closing the IDE stops killing it.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, Conductor, @conductor_build, 2026-09-14: “@conductor_build @cursor_ai also, cursor agents should be a standalone app different from the ide. an ide is directory linked, the agents window is (or made to look) dir agnostic and cloud-first. closing the ide shouldn't close the agents view.” [source](https://twitter.com/1248167246771261440/status/2099525259183690035)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-04: “chats are tied to workspace and vscode can be very finicky about workspaces. paths are not resolved and normalized. opening a repo folder by going to the folder in terminal and typing "code ." will generate a different workspace than typing "code <folderpath>" or using environment variables in the path or making a shortcut that runs code.exe in that folder. how i solved it was to save workspace as and then give it a named workspace (i use main.code-workspace) then you can double-click on it, run it from a terminal, or put it in a shortcut and you'll get the same workspace.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w75qev/copilot_losing_all_chat_sessions_when_reopening/p7udo6u/)
  - Complaint, Claude Code, r/ClaudeCode, 2026-09-12: “i googled around a little more and found this setting to disable it: claude_code_auto_connect_ide=false unfortunately, that might have some unintended consequences elsewhere, like if i use the ide context for anything else in my workflow, but i'll just have to see if something comes up and if the setting is worth it for me to leave off. thank you for pointing me in the right direction!” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wdl6ou/how_do_you_prevent_the_attached_file_from_showing/p9g5x8h/)
  - Complaint, Cursor, @cursor_ai, 2026-09-09: “this makes you cursor open from terminal using "cursor" in the editor instead of the agentic environment ... we need this as default! @cursor_ai @poteto <strict_link>” [source](https://twitter.com/2814348563/status/2097639791533695190)

- **CLI in the editor terminal** ([IDE and editor integration](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/setup.ide_integration.md)). The common workaround is to skip the plugin entirely and run the agent's CLI inside the editor's terminal pane.
Users say CLIs have fewer quirks than extensions and get features first. They keep the editor for file trees, diffs and markdown previews, and drive the agent from a terminal panel. Claude Code, Pi and Antigravity users all describe the same split. One notes VS Code is turning into an agent harness itself, which makes stacking another one inside it feel redundant.
  Evidence:
  - Praise, Claude Code, r/ClaudeCode, 2026-09-05: “i used the vscode extension a lot for months but now use the cli almost exclusively. ultimately it feels cleaner and is, by nature, closer to the claude code harness. like another commenter here, i also started using "herdr" about a month ago and now launch all of my claude code terminal sessions within it.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1w7p815/cli_or_extension/p7xbm2h/)
  - Praise, Google Antigravity, r/google_antigravity, 2026-09-21: “i don't do it because i think cli means youre a better engineer or some superficial nonesense like that. i do sometimes use app or extensions, but i like the cli because often time i need the terminal anyway for something, the workflow is text based already, less prone to awkward bugs or quirks of the app/extension. cli of any coding harness, not just antigravity, always feels like it has less issues than extensions or integrated chats. i can also run the cli in my ide terminal if i still want the visual aspects of reviewing code files or markdown previews and expect the same outcomes. the one thing that app/extension has a leg up in is copy pasting images directly but i dont do that too often anyway and you can still tell the cli to read your image by providing file path to it.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wmi7qb/why_is_cli_being_used_by_most/pb7lear/)
  - Complaint, Claude Code, r/ClaudeCode, 2026-09-25: “cli with tmux, theres lots of great ways to view code diffs in the command line too that are way nicer than using vscode. vscode tbh has been kind of just been turning into an agent harness in the past few updates, it's not really a code editor anymore like it used to be.. running an agent harness in an agent harness just feels strange at this point.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wq49gg/claude_code_cli_vs_vs_code_extension_which_do_you/pc1nmwz/)
  - Praise, Pi, r/PiCodingAgent, 2026-09-13: “can you open a normal terminal into that directory? i tried vs code dev containers. they are bloated and cumbersome. i just create a docker container with host volume mounts. run pi inside the container. and open vs code to the host mount folder. this has the best of both worlds. full pi experience and vs code for editing” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/PiCodingAgent/comments/1wcnwbw/pi_image_pasting/p9jhjpg/)

### Who stands out

- **Cursor (stronger)**. Users credit Cursor with being a full editor first, with tab completion and inline diffs wrapped around the agent.
Posts frame Cursor's real product as the harness. That means the editor, tab completions and inline diffs, not model access. Users praise the separation of editor and chat and the ability to run a browser inspector alongside multiple agents. The complaints are narrower and target the newer agentic view, which loses syntax highlighting and code jumps that the classic editor keeps.
  Evidence:
  - Praise, Cursor, @cursor_ai, 2026-09-09: “@eltiolisan @gergelyorosz @cursor_ai separate editor and chat model still feels like the cleaner daily coding workflow” [source](https://twitter.com/2071385115062886400/status/2097706055572545837)
  - Praise, Cursor, r/cursor, 2026-09-18: “honestly? don't stack cursor pro for model access - you already own the same models three times over. x premium+ covers grok, claude max covers anthropic, codex covers openai. what cursor actually sells is the harness: the editor, tab completions, inline diffs. if start feels good to code in, keep start. buying pro to fix a model-access problem you don't have is how you end up at five subscriptions. that bucket-of-allowances model is the redundancy you're feeling. disclosure: i work on skydive - we went the opposite way: agents on their own cloud computer, 300+ models billed per token at provider cost, no bucket to ration, memory between sessions. fair warning: we're not an ide, no tab autocomplete, so not a cursor replacement. if you want to test it, redditama stacks $25 of credit (skydive.com, settings > billing). tell me how it goes.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1wjcyla/got_cursor_start_just_to_see_if_cursor_can_fit_my/paiacf4/)
  - Praise, Cursor, @cursor_ai, 2026-09-02: “(just my honest opinion - i'm not being sponsored by them) try it out it's really cool. you can set it up in an ide (i use @cursor_ai ) and use both a browser with a lovable style inspector and a figma/paper-style canvas in parallel, with multiple agents. the highest level of flexibility i've ever achieved so far 🤝” [source](https://twitter.com/493263659/status/2095028492043759871)
  - Praise, Cursor, r/cursor, 2026-09-23: “if you are not a vibe coder . and ask the right questions and review and understand your code . you will get 100% same result from all models above average so composer = claude = gpt the only difference is usage and user experience. and by far cursor is the best well rounded product as an ide with ai . also composer 2.5 usage are insane you get around 2 billion tokens on 20$ . on claude opus the 2 billions cost like 2000$ .” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1wnpgmf/canceled_cursor_today_after_using_it_for_many/pbml2e2/)

- **Google Antigravity (weaker)**. Antigravity users face a confusing IDE, a weaker VS Code extension and doubts about whether the IDE will keep getting updates.
Users call the IDE cluttered with tabs and windows they cannot explain. The VS Code extension handles pending changes worse than the IDE, so hand-editing users find it unusable. Some describe the IDE as dead next to the newer 2.0 app. Antigravity users file nearly all requests for continued IDE updates, plus parity and built-in browser asks.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, Google Antigravity, r/google_antigravity, 2026-09-05: “i personally find the ide confusing there is 7 different tabs and windows that i dont even know why exist, i prefer jetbrain webstorm and 2.0 gui. vscode forks are pointless” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1w8bivc/antigravity_ide_performs_significantly_worse_than/p81eu8u/)
  - Complaint, Google Antigravity, r/google_antigravity, 2026-09-10: “4 - the agentic ide sucks and you prefer working with your own ide to make the fixes on the same code the agentic model is working on.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wcachv/can_someone_explain_how_you_actually_work_with/p8wpzud/)
  - Complaint, Google Antigravity, r/google_antigravity, 2026-09-06: “are using ide? i don't think it work properly, i had to move to agy 2.0” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1w8ayap/insanely_slow_since_38/p853zp5/)

- **OpenAI Codex (mixed)**. Codex users like the desktop app but find the CLI and extensions lagging, and they file the most parity requests.
Posts praise the Codex app for worktrees, a built-in browser and one-click git actions, and some prefer the VS Code extension's look to terminal windows. The flip side is that users call the CLI too limited and ask for desktop features to reach it. Others still keep VS Code open for navigation the app's diff viewer cannot match.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, OpenAI Codex, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app, 2026-09-07: “@thsottiaux @benjaminbadejo @twostraws i’ve only use the codex app, the cli is too limited.” [source](https://twitter.com/1346629077906681863/status/2096886956395270240)
  - Praise, OpenAI Codex, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app, 2026-09-09: “it's the same harness. one surface is a cli, the other is a gui. the real difference is that the codex app is nicer to use (worktrees, built-in browser, git actions in one click, etc.). that's mainly for people who want a packaged interface. they've bundled the tools you need to move fast inside the app. but they're not the only ones doing this. there are plenty of alternatives that cover the same ground: cursor if you're willing to pay, and on the open-source / multi-agent side look at orchestrators like orca, superset, emdash, t3 code, conductor, etc. the upside of those is that instead of being locked to codex only, you can run several agents in one interface. personally i use orca; in my setup agents are launched from the cli. a lot of the others ship a gui, so try a few.” [source](https://twitter.com/1833193917098893313/status/2097677780179620083)
  - Praise, OpenAI Codex, r/codex, 2026-09-12: “yeah of course. what he's recommending is just a bunch of terminal windows, but the vs code extension also works the same way (and looks nicer imo)” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wdv8vw/how_can_i_run_multiple_sessions_on_single_screen/p9adqyj/)

- **Zed (mixed)**. Zed wins as a lightweight host for other agents via ACP but loses users over gaps outside AI.
Users recommend Zed as a fast Rust editor that runs Gemini CLI, Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode in a sidebar through ACP. Complaints center on non-agent basics. Jupyter support stays behind a feature flag, devcontainer issues linger, and some say the team prioritises AI over task configs. Jupyter notebooks are Zed's dominant request on this criterion.
  Evidence:
  - Praise, Zed, r/google_antigravity, 2026-09-10: “check out [zed editor](<strict_link>), it's made on rust and more lightweight than vs code. you can use gemini cli via acp and the chat runs on the sidebar.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wc8ybv/should_switch_to_antigravity_extension/p904uxk/)
  - Complaint, Zed, r/ZedEditor, 2026-09-27: “no criticism here. looks like a really cool project you're working on. just an fyi that turning the feature flags on doesn't give you proper jupyter notebook support. zed's lack of effort in getting jupyter notebooks working is very annoying but there's a good reason for them being behind a feature flag, at the moment.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ZedEditor/comments/1wjp5nq/popular_zed_fork_where_the_community_is_more/pcbbw64/)
  - Complaint, Zed, r/ZedEditor, 2026-09-27: “sadly, zed devs are focusing too much on ai imo. one of the reasons i could not adopt zed, and for which there is already a feature request is creation configs to be referenced in tasks.json as in vscode” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ZedEditor/comments/1wris6u/pls_dont_turn_into_vs_code/pcfw6ns/)
  - Complaint, Cursor, r/cursor, 2026-09-18: “you can use em both in the zed text editor; i have a cursor sub and use the cursor agent app but prefer the zed editor personally. zed has an acp registry that'll allow you to use a lot of different llm providers in it natively (codex, claude, opencode, etc.) - only downside (if you consider it to be one) is that they dont share chats - ie having one chat in cursor with a certain model won't let you switch to an opencode go model in the same sesh.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1wjl6h4/opencode_go_in_cursor/pajof8b/)

- **GitHub Copilot (mixed)**. Copilot's inline autocomplete and GitHub integration earn loyalty, while its agent integration draws reports of bugs and uneven support across editors.
Users describe coding normally while Copilot completes functions from names and comments, and praise its tight GitHub and VS Code ties. Complaints say the VS Code integration has grown buggier and that Visual Studio gets features late. One user calls a competitor's VS Code plugin faster and less buggy.
  Evidence:
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, @GitHubCopilot, 2026-09-01: “for quick edits and repo wrangling, i rely a lot on @githubcopilot since its integration with @github and @code is superb. also a good way to test several models. mai code 1.1 flash by @microsoft is a killer when it comes to token efficiency. really insane. became my default one” [source](https://twitter.com/48764687/status/2094889560861769879)
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-14: “this is why i prefer using copilot in the ide. i basically just code as i always have, but i can get some assistance in real time. like i'll create a function, and based on the name it auto-completes the function. i can then review or tweak it, test, and move on. for expanding a function, i'll create an in-code comment and it will auto-create the code, then review/test. for a problem or bug, i'll highlight the code or function and then open chat to ask it to debug or test. i don't often have the chat window open at all. mostly just auto-compete.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wfyrjy/how_do_you_guys_do_agentic_coding/p9qg43q/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-25: “it's crazy buggy. even the integration with vscode is worse.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wpctlc/vs_code_chat_users_local_or_copilot_harness/pbvujk7/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-27: “with opus 5.5 out now and sonnet 5.5 and haiku 5.5 not far behind, a claude pro subscription is way better value. not to mention the claude code plugin in vs code is faster and less buggy than github copilot.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wr5io2/best_cheaper_alternative/pcbmqn2/)

### Fine print

- Grok Build, Augment Code, Conductor, Warp and several others have too few posts here to separate from the pack.
- The two Warp praise posts read like reposted announcements rather than hands-on usage reports.
- Posts cover roughly one month, so recent rebrands and plugin shutdowns weigh heavily in the complaints.

## Top requests

What users ask to add or change, most asked first. 350 author-weeks ask for something. Requests do not change the Feedback Score. Rule: A separate pass by Claude Sonnet 5 reads every counted post and extracts what the author asks the agent or its vendor to add or change, with the criteria it maps to and a short normalised wording; it does not touch the labels or the Feedback Score. Claude Opus 5.5 groups the wordings within each criterion (the first criterion the request maps to) into themes; code counts them. A theme counts distinct author-weeks that ask for it, per agent; across agents, one author-week per agent. Themes asked in fewer than 2 author-weeks, and requests that share no theme, are not shown. Examples: up to 3 posts per theme from different authors, without slurs, preferring posts of 60 to 450 characters, most recent first.

### 1. Desktop and IDE feature parity in CLI

- Amp, 2026-09-24, @AmpCode (X): “@ampcode and while we're at it... why not support the "run review" command in the tui... 🤔 @thorstenball” [source](https://twitter.com/2062509956574650368/status/2103198859291922522)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-16, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “any update to cli? or its always agy 2.0? cant do delete conversation automatically on every time i quit the app on the app one while in cli, i could use powershell profile to do so. maybe a request to add like disabling knowledge and conversation history like in antigravity ide. i dont need bloated context from the previous chat like tha chatbot app.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wh9uyh/antigravity_2_release_v2140/pa3aiha/)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-16, @antigravity (X): “@antigravity i think this is last piece that make antigravity works. it do things pretty well. just ask too much. hope it comes to cli too.” [source](https://twitter.com/1192620866/status/2100096493848060297)

### 2. Better CLI harness quality and usability

- Cursor, 2026-09-23, @cursor_ai (X): “@cursor_ai can you focus on the cli? it's too difficult to use.” [source](https://twitter.com/2092254088432164864/status/2102906844004204789)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-22, r/codex (Reddit): “i'm at 87% allowance. resets in 5 days. idgaf i'm submitting a pr to make the codex cli similar to claude cli. fuck that's the only reason i don't use codex over claude (idiots)” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wn5avm/gpt_6_astra_on_ultra_consumed_entire_5hrs_limit/pbc4h31/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-22, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “using codex, i realize that astra is really good but the codex cli is really bad and that harnesses matter so much. its really hard actually doing anything productive with codex compared to claude code and they gotta fix it asap in the meantime, can anyone recommend a good harness on top of codex? preferably my subscription shoudl work lol” [source](https://twitter.com/1401310418765713410/status/2102279616966852890)

### 3. Built-in browser with element selection

- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-26, @antigravity (X): “@antigravity when are we having in built browser support like vscode to preview and select element right in ide?” [source](https://twitter.com/2004183396705296384/status/2103785026626498901)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-25, r/opencode (Reddit): “the only thing i miss compared to the copilot extension is the integrated tools, browser, and ''click to install'' features that vscode is providing more and more. there is still an option to add opencode go to the copilot extension, but it's not that perfect. it works, but openchamber seems to consume less tokens and manage the context and cache hit a bit better.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1wpt89d/opencode_desktop_vs_opencode_v2_desktop_vs/pbzdp4z/)
- Kiro, 2026-09-25, @kirodotdev (X): “yo @kirodotdev, wen opus 5.5? 👀 also would love a select div (or dom element) feature i'm a power user of yours ;)” [source](https://twitter.com/2083879303113027585/status/2103567218873131082)

### 4. Feature parity in IDE extensions

- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-26, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “sad, the extensions cannot give full experience like ide do. very very disappointed” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1w3xjkl/is_antigravity_ide_not_getting_updates/pc5f9o0/)
- Claude Code, 2026-09-13, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@bcherny i think something like this makes sense for 'claude code for vs code'. @claudedevs” [source](https://twitter.com/716743642237509632/status/2099194719871881322)
- Claude Code, 2026-09-11, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “can this somehow be incorporated in vscode claude extension?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wddnzf/give_claude_code_a_free_voice_its_surprisingly/p95nch6/)

### 5. Official native VS Code extension

- OpenCode, 2026-09-24, r/opencode (Reddit): “an official opencode chat experience integrated directly into vs code, similar to github copilot chat, would be a great addition. it would make opencode much easier to use for developers who prefer a native chat interface instead of relying mainly on the terminal, while still providing access to opencode’s models, coding capabilities, tool calling, and project context directly within the editor.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1wp0twh/an_official_opencode_chat_like_copilot_chat_would/)
- Cursor, 2026-09-09, @cursor_ai (X): “@metafordevs @cursor_ai do you guys have vs code extension aswell ? would love to try it” [source](https://twitter.com/1796279396854284289/status/2097748092045123805)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-08, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “in the windows app's remote desktop, dragging is not possible, and the view is too small, so it would be convenient to have a vs code extension made for codex, which i recommend. features: move codex cli to the latest line, move to the next tab, two-step zoom in and out, display codex remaining amount (retrieve the latest value every 5 minutes for 1 hour since the last operation detection) <strict_link>” [source](https://twitter.com/134575743/status/2097204855534424525)

### 6. Better VS Code extension quality and UX

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-26, r/codex (Reddit): “okay, i tried the vs code codex extension and it works. if i open a local chat in the chatgpt desktop app it does not load, but if i open it in the vs code extension then it does work. then if i open that chat in the app again it works again! starting a new chat does work in vs code but not in the app. conclusion: bruh. the chatgpt app is vibecoded slop. if only the vs code extension had better ux” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wq86dk/codex_not_working_today/pc37sc1/)
- Claude Code, 2026-09-25, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “> it's mildly annoying copying text out of cli, so i make it write md files for me in a scratch folder when needed this is probably the biggest reason i use the extension, rather than cli. an extension should give anthropic a lot more flexibility in its ux design than a terminal cli, right? so in principle, the extension _should_ be better in many ways (and if it's not... anthropic should do better) *if you use vscode” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wq49gg/claude_code_cli_vs_vs_code_extension_which_do_you/pc125e3/)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-19, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “what about the antigravity ide version? you’re being very biased—focusing development only on other things while neglecting to update the ide. do you really expect us to switch to using the antigravity extension in vs code? it runs so slowly.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wk1y1u/antigravity_2_release_v2150/papsi03/)

### 7. CLI and web features in desktop app

- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-23, @antigravity (X): “@rodydavis @antigravity what about the antigravity app? it doesn't support this yet.” [source](https://twitter.com/125075633/status/2102905002985676825)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-18, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “@thsottiaux can we get the deep research tool into the codex app? it's currently only available on the web version. also in the mobile app diagrams, etc can go past the screen width and there is no side scroll” [source](https://twitter.com/1968041213073686528/status/2100772047538319618)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-14, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “i'll definitely give this a go for something soon however, are there plans to bring this to the desktop application as well? i have a pretty good workflow there now and would love to try it there.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w78r2a/project_hydrafusion_frontier_quality_via/p9ov9a7/)

### 8. Continued IDE updates and development

- Zed, 2026-09-25, @zeddotdev (X): “@zeddotdev this was useful when you were still in the game of developing it as an actual ide. can you not just give that side a bit more love?” [source](https://twitter.com/511223011/status/2103444726594588826)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-19, @antigravity (X): “@tigerjpeg @antigravity hey please improve antigravity it lacks a lot of features like computer use design mode and a lot of basic commands like fork compact etc feels bare 🦴 and ide has not received update for a month” [source](https://twitter.com/2044713468931031040/status/2101359368688324765)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-11, @antigravity (X): “@g_programming @almarca4 here @antigravity please show some love to antigravity ide (for those of us who still review the ai code), and please don't tell me to try the extensions.” [source](https://twitter.com/1286046841570758656/status/2098426895037513796)

### 9. Jupyter notebook support

- Zed, 2026-09-27, r/ZedEditor (Reddit): “i don't know how many of you use zed for running jupyter notebooks - so many issues and vs code support is much better.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ZedEditor/comments/1wr5qmt/jupyter_notebook_support_in_zed_is_not_good/)
- Zed, 2026-09-25, @zeddotdev (X): “@zeddotdev i have been defaulting zed for an year now. and my only grievance is that there is no jupyter notebook support 😭😭.” [source](https://twitter.com/1671465198409089024/status/2103348563367559346)
- Zed, 2026-09-24, r/ZedEditor (Reddit): “jupyter notebooks. enginging, physics, data science and a tonne of other sciences use them extensively and zed currently has no support for them at all (except for in the preview with a few feature flags but lsp's, vim mode and a tonne of other stuff doesn't work in them so who cares)” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ZedEditor/comments/1wo7jua/what_do_you_think_is_missing_in_zed_editor/pbpza9i/)

### 10. Improved IDE quality

- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-26, @antigravity (X): “@antigravity give some sunshine to the ide too... or add an optional ide in 2.0” [source](https://twitter.com/1904532839477231616/status/2103909185310363925)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-15, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “@phil_uplc agreed if openai/codex fixes a few devex and tooling-integration issues, claude is basically done.” [source](https://twitter.com/1318572338137473024/status/2099875705366417547)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-15, @antigravity (X): “@ai_for_success model is very good i think google needs to upgrade their harness google antigravity @antigravity @officiallogank” [source](https://twitter.com/2012729139296657408/status/2099858327325016122)

### 11. Restore discontinued IDE, extension or app

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-25, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “@theo i miss codex-app, gpt-image, computer-use and unlimit chat that can send context directly in codex. but the claude opus 5.5 is so good that i could forget astra” [source](https://twitter.com/2043642583671300096/status/2103396183087731147)
- Cursor, 2026-09-22, r/cursor (Reddit): “it looks like codex is not longer supported as ab ide extension in cursor,i cant find it” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1w19lrl/openai_is_ending_its_cursor_partnership_after/pbaiaou/)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-11, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “same here. i just updated antigravity.. it split my ide into agent only app where u cant code yourself and the models work there... but doesnt work in my ide... its quite irritating honestly” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wdipw5/agent_execution_terminated_due_to_error_issued/p979g13/)

### 12. Inline code autocomplete in editor

- OpenCode, 2026-09-27, r/opencodeCLI (Reddit): “i use openchamber mostly as a vscode plugin, which brings all opencode goodness directly into vscode like it were copilot. the only missing integration is code auto-complete in the editor.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencodeCLI/comments/1wqkpi3/can_somebody_explain_what_open_chamber_is/pcffao6/)
- Zed, 2026-09-23, r/ZedEditor (Reddit): “better intellisense, either native or via plugin. don't need ai for everything.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ZedEditor/comments/1wo7jua/what_do_you_think_is_missing_in_zed_editor/pblf992/)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-09-23, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “1. please bring the remote feature in extension too 2. inline chat completion feature 3. when files are edited via agent, the code editor floods with error marks as the changes are not immediately shown on the editors” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wnt3dq/whats_the_changes_in_antigravity_ext_v140/pbih9gj/)

### Claude Code

- Praise, 2026-09-27, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i use the code tab in windows desktop and it has been fine... i used to use cli but now the harness is just convenient.. not as good as codex but still” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wrhtyd/new_to_claude_why_should_we_use_claude_code_over/pcckc6o/)
- Praise, 2026-09-27, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “with opus 5.5 out now and sonnet 5.5 and haiku 5.5 not far behind, a claude pro subscription is way better value. not to mention the claude code plugin in vs code is faster and less buggy than github copilot.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wr5io2/best_cheaper_alternative/pcbmqn2/)
- Praise, 2026-09-27, r/kiroIDE (Reddit): “my two cents on both from data science product development pov: claude code: i have been using claude code since it's first release. i must say it has improved a lot from different modes to harness improvements. the follow up questions which it asks you in plan mode is similar to plan mode in kiro. while claude code earlier was on cli only on windows later it got major upgrade to better ui as well integrated in vs code. i honestly feel like it r” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/kiroIDE/comments/1wqueq0/claude_pro_vs_kiro_pro_subscription_which_is/pcc2obm/)

### GitHub Copilot

- Praise, 2026-09-25, r/ClaudeAI (Reddit): “this is a pro of copilot paid in an ms tenant, the basics are there, yes, you can pay more for agent controls and such, but at least with paid copilot the data is in your tenant so to speak and for most people, its integration just works and makes it easy, vs people having to open claude, or install the claude office addons” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1wq2hsf/claude_in_enterprise/pc0wesd/)
- Praise, 2026-09-19, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “we’ve rolled our github copilot using ghe, and have a very successful implementation across our 400+ employee base. mainly using vs code and the chat window selecting the right models for the right use case, and github copilot cli (and now the windows app which is new and works very well). i guess the experience you get depends on how well your it team have configured it and manage it. i keep on top of models, budgets, features and so on, to make” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1win2b6/github_copilot_is_a_nightmare_for_enterprises/par0hb2/)

### OpenCode

- Praise, 2026-09-27, r/opencodeCLI (Reddit): “openchamber is simply an ui for opencode. from a ux perspective, it's actually very good. for serious work i prefer the vscode extension anyway.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencodeCLI/comments/1wrgmfe/whats_the_deal_with_openchamber/pcc9zmx/)
- Praise, 2026-09-24, r/opencode (Reddit): “i stick to vscode with opencode2 tui. i actually love the way the opencode tui looks. but with extensions you can do anything and everything in vscode. their agent mode is pretty impressive. im no coding expert or swe, but having the complete control that vscode offers is what i enjoy. i like to see the file tree, edit code and markdown, see my commits, etc. i enjoyed antigravity ide by google, and this was the natural progression for me. other g” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1womhbi/best_claude_code_alternatives/pbqpkhb/)
