# Threads, chats and parallel tasks organisation (`ask.conversation`)

Feedback Bench, personal agents, built 2026-10-19, window 2026-08-31 to 2026-10-18. Web page: https://feedbackbench.com/#/criterion/ask.conversation

Area: [Talking to the agent](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/ask.md)

**Definition.** How conversations and tasks are organised in the product: separate threads or chats, running several tasks at once, finding past chats, editing or deleting messages.

**Boundary.** Not this: see [Avatar, personality and tone of replies](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/ask.persona.md) for how the agent's replies sound, read or feel. Not this: see [Remembering the user and context across sessions](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/auto.memory.md) when the agent forgets content. Not this: see [App screens, layout, rendering, localisation and stability](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/ask.app_client.md) when the screen itself renders wrongly.

Rated user-weeks, all agents: 880. Complaint share: 62%.

## The brief

Written by large language models from this page's numbers and the posts it quotes, then checked: every number in the text is in the build. Interpretation, not measurement.

Muse is best at keeping chats and threads organised, and it ranks high. Users say its side chats let them keep separate topics and projects apart from the main chat. This criterion is the 32nd most rated of 53, and 61.7% of rated user-weeks are complaints. ChatGPT Dots and Hermes Agent rank low. ChatGPT Dots users rate this 2.77 times as often as other users do. Hermes Agent users write 26% of the category's complaints here.

### What separates the best from the rest

Muse users describe side chats and an agent that keeps topics apart without mixing them. ChatGPT Dots users say there is only one dot. Unrelated tasks pile into one stream, and the results get mixed up. Hermes Agent users can open several sessions, but they describe trouble managing them. They mention sessions they cannot delete, jumpy scrollback, a flawed session search and chats that do not carry over between devices.

  - Muse, 2026-10-02, Meta Muse Is Incredible - 5 Features You Need To Try (YouTube): “no bro… the side chats are where the power is. you can use each side chat to run entirely different parts of your life or business.” [source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lC_-9TD3TfA&lc=UgyNrTx7ZZnh9rbRaa54AaABAg)
  - Muse, 2026-10-11, App Store (App Store): “si far, very logical & end-to-end tasks have been better than others. handled multiple topics efficiently without mingling. great for personal level and somewhat complex work tasks. need to check how to further more complex tasks and organizing them.” [source](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/muse-from-meta/id6760173601)

  - Hermes Agent, 2026-10-12, X search: Hermes Agent, hermes-agent, Hermes Desktop (X): “i'm going to say something unpopular here. but hermes agent sucks. this is just one example. wdym i can't delete a session? why on earth does it need a model to delete a session? what the heck? ## How it breaks

Rule: A separate pass sorts complaints into failure modes. For each criterion with at least 30 complaining user-weeks, a large language model reads 150 complaint posts drawn at random and names 4 to 8 failure modes; a second large language model then puts every complaint post on that criterion in one mode, or in Other when it fits none. Modes are fixed once named, and new posts are sorted into them each week. A mode counts distinct user-weeks with a complaint in it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Modes do not change the labels or the Feedback Score. Examples: up to 3 posts per mode from different users, chosen and checked as receipts are.

The largest failure mode is a single thread that forces unrelated topics together, at 20% of complaining user-weeks. ChatGPT Dots accounts for 35% of it and Muse for 24%. Two modes belong mostly to Hermes Agent. It accounts for 57% of complaints about chats that vanish or fail to sync, and 41% of complaints about past conversations that are hard to find or reopen.

549 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single thread forces unrelated topics together | 109 | 116 | ChatGPT Dots 38, Muse 26, Grok Bot 17, OpenClaw 9, Hermes Agent 8, Gemini Spark 3, Hark 3, Instinct 3, Poke 2 | The agent gives the user only one main chat (or one thread per bot), so separate projects, life areas and parallel tasks pile up in the same stream and the user can't split, branch or start a fresh topic; this excludes problems sorting or finding chats when several chats do exist. |
| Losing track of parallel tasks and bots | 87 | 88 | Hermes Agent 32, Grok Bot 22, ChatGPT Dots 18, OpenClaw 7, Muse 6, Gemini Spark 1, Hark 1 | While several tasks, sub-agents or bots run at once, the user can't see which bot they are talking to, the status of each task, or which results are finished, can't start a parallel sub-task, or finds that switching between bots or profiles fails; this excludes organising the chat list itself. |
| No way to organise many chats | 76 | 79 | Hermes Agent 25, Grok Bot 23, Muse 10, ChatGPT Dots 8, OpenClaw 7, Gemini Spark 2, Hark 1 | When the user has many sessions, bots or chats, the product gives them no folders, projects, labels, tabs, grouping, working renames or auto-titles, so the list gets messy and confusing; this excludes searching for a specific past chat and the lack of multiple chats altogether. |
| Past conversations hard to find or reopen | 46 | 46 | Hermes Agent 19, Muse 8, Grok Bot 7, OpenClaw 5, ChatGPT Dots 4, Gemini Spark 2, Hark 1 | The user can't find an earlier session or message again because search is missing or broken, history loads only partly, sessions don't show up in the history list, or cron or automation runs crowd out real chats; this excludes chats that are actually deleted or lost. |
| Chats or drafts vanish or fail to sync | 44 | 44 | Hermes Agent 25, Grok Bot 9, ChatGPT Dots 5, Muse 3, OpenClaw 2 | Conversations, messages or unsent drafts disappear, are lost after logout or an app restart, or differ between devices and channels (for example mobile vs desktop, or a messaging gateway vs the app); this excludes content that still exists but can't be found. |
| Background and other-session content leaks into chat | 29 | 29 | Grok Bot 10, Muse 6, OpenClaw 5, ChatGPT Dots 4, Hermes Agent 4 | Notifications, automation output, internal thinking or tool calls, duplicated replies, or context from other chats show up in the active conversation where they don't belong; this excludes the deliberate design choice of having only one chat. |
| Context limits break long-running sessions | 29 | 29 | Hermes Agent 9, OpenClaw 8, Grok Bot 5, ChatGPT Dots 3, Muse 3, Instinct 1 | A long chat fills its context window, and compaction fails, loops, silently drops earlier decisions or redoes finished work, or there is no clear way to compact, clear the context or start a new session; this excludes general complaints about model quality that have nothing to do with session length. |
| Cannot edit, delete or reset messages | 25 | 25 | Grok Bot 9, Muse 7, Hermes Agent 6, ChatGPT Dots 2, OpenClaw 1 | The user can't delete, hide, cancel, edit, save or roll back individual messages, or clear a bot's chat while keeping its memory, so their only option is to delete or clone the whole bot; this excludes losing messages by accident. |
| Other | 110 | 115 | Muse 39, ChatGPT Dots 29, Grok Bot 15, Hermes Agent 15, OpenClaw 7, Gemini Spark 4, Hark 1 | Complaints that fit none of the modes above. |

#### Losing track of parallel tasks and bots

- Muse, 2026-10-14, @muse (X): “@alexandr_wang @finkd i have used @muse more then any human on earth. i have a couple changes that i think could help. 1. make mobile ui easier to use multi task control. right now ui is confusing. especially talking in the main chat doing side chat stuff is confusing.” [source](https://twitter.com/1963133126391083008/status/2110477901103591874)
- Hark, 2026-10-14, @hark_labs (X): “@abidur_c @hark_labs i love the background for the main chat, but projects should get a different look and have assignable backgrounds. i keep going back to the app with a general request and it’s still in a projects page and i send it there by mistake.” [source](https://twitter.com/98923477/status/2110322377108123838)

- Muse, 2026-10-06, @muse (X): “so @muse does have this section but a to do list might be the right form factor at scale. chat just feels all over the place once you have enough topics in parallel. if instinct/muse whoever’s lead got sharp taste they gotta pick it up fast [link] [link]” [source](https://twitter.com/1176051260/status/2107575426055118936)

## Top requests

What users ask to add or change, most asked first. 484 user-weeks ask for something. Requests do not change the Feedback Score. Rule: A separate pass by a large language model reads every counted post and extracts what the user asks the agent or its vendor to add or change, with the criteria it maps to and a short normalised wording; it does not touch the labels or the Feedback Score. A large language model groups the wordings within each criterion (the first criterion the request maps to) into themes, and a second pass merges themes that ask for the same change under different criteria; a merged theme sits under the criterion most of its requests map to, and code counts it once. A theme counts distinct user-weeks that ask for it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Themes asked in fewer than 2 user-weeks, and requests that share no theme, are not shown. Examples: up to 3 posts per theme from different users, without slurs: whole posts of 60 to 450 characters with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, posts of at most 280 characters first, then the newest.

### 3. Open-ended conversational chat mode

- Gemini Spark, 2026-10-13, X search: Gemini Spark (X): “looks like google got rid of gemini spark and now it's a task selection under the chatbox. good step in the right direction towards simplification! obvious next step is to not differentiate between task/chat and just let the model decide what to do based on input. ### 5. Organize bots into folders or groups

- Grok Bot, 2026-10-08, X search: Grok Bot, Grokbot, x.ai/bot (X): “@elonmusk @brianroemmele @grok @bot a dashboard view of our bots. the conversation ui is fine for little things, but not well adapted for a bigger use imo.” [source](https://twitter.com/1650142368421560322/status/2108115336457506902)

- Hermes Agent, 2026-10-05, @NousResearch (X): “i love using @nousresearch hermes agent, but for past few days i am using it less and less - way too many updates - laggy desktop app - bad ui ux for using multiple agents mainly using via telegram only if i need it, such a good product but not getting the enough polishing” [source](https://twitter.com/859352884886077440/status/2106975025307828311)

### 7. Easier switching and navigation between chats

### 9. Persistent chat history

- Muse, 2026-10-06, @muse (X): “@startupoppa @muse chat is great until “where were we?” becomes your most-used prompt. conversations scroll away. unfinished work shouldn’t.” [source](https://twitter.com/9982592/status/2107578099097543011)

### 11. Built-in task list alongside chats

- Hermes Agent, 2026-10-12, r/hermesagent (Reddit): “first of all absolutely amazing. i almost prefer it over the desktop official. maybe could be considered for mac as well? one thing i found is on kanban that if a tasked is blocked i can’t answer it in the card at least not as long it’s in the blocked row.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/hermesagent/comments/1x3pfps/hermes_conduit_0117_update_your_agent_can_call/pfj22vq/)

## Posts

Receipts rule: Up to 5 praise and 5 complaint posts per area and 3 per criterion. Each is a whole post of 60 to 450 characters (700 for areas) with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, that judges the criterion, whose labels are all praise or all complaint, and that contains no slur. Posts that touch the fewest criteria come first, then posts of at most 280 characters, then the newest. A second large language model reads the first 3 candidates per slot and keeps a post only if it clearly praises, or clearly complains about, the agent on that criterion. Links and personal details removed by the source show as marks such as [link].
