# Contacting other people and businesses for you (`act.outreach`)

Feedback Bench, personal agents, built 2026-10-19, window 2026-08-31 to 2026-10-18. Web page: https://feedbackbench.com/#/criterion/act.outreach

Area: [Getting tasks done](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.md)

**Definition.** Whether the agent contacts another person or business on the user's behalf, by phone call, text, direct message or email, to get something done, and reports back: calling an office, negotiating a bill, writing to a vendor.

**Boundary.** Not this: see [Creating writing, images, video and social posts](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.content.md) for writing or publishing posts on social media. Not this: see [Email triage, cleanup and drafting replies](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.email.md) for handling the user's own inbox. Not this: see [Booking appointments, reservations, travel and tickets](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.reservations.md) when the contact is only how a booking was made. Not this: see [Reaching the agent through messaging apps](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/ask.channel.md) or [Speaking with the agent by voice or call](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/ask.voice.md) for how the user reaches the agent.

Rated user-weeks, all agents: 566. Complaint share: 15%.

## The brief

Written by large language models from this page's numbers and the posts it quotes, then checked: every number in the text is in the build. Interpretation, not measurement.

Grok Bot is the best personal agent at contacting people and businesses for you. Users say it phones to cancel subscriptions, works down their bills and deals with difficult people while they stay out of it. Hermes Agent and OpenClaw also rank high. This is a small part of what users rate: 1.0% of it, the 44th most rated of 53 criteria. Muse and ChatGPT Dots rank low. Muse users write 58% of the category's complaints here. Their most common complaint is an agent that says it cannot make calls.

### What separates the best from the rest

Users of Grok Bot, Hermes Agent and OpenClaw say the agent makes the call or sends the email, argues the case with the other side and comes back with a result, often money saved. Muse users say their agent tells them it has no way to dial out and asks them to make the call themselves. A ChatGPT Dots user says the agent reads Slack messages but will not send replies.

  - Hermes Agent, 2026-10-05, X search: Hermes Agent, hermes-agent, Hermes Desktop (X): “yeah, i totally did this and save money as well. i did feel a little bad because my hermes agent sent a very lengthy email to the human insurance agent who then replied to every question in significant detail, which probably took them a couple hours. we saved over 1000 bucks though.” [source](https://twitter.com/3421721518/status/2107171578933060006)

## How it breaks

Rule: A separate pass sorts complaints into failure modes. For each criterion with at least 30 complaining user-weeks, a large language model reads 150 complaint posts drawn at random and names 4 to 8 failure modes; a second large language model then puts every complaint post on that criterion in one mode, or in Other when it fits none. Modes are fixed once named, and new posts are sorted into them each week. A mode counts distinct user-weeks with a complaint in it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Modes do not change the labels or the Feedback Score. Examples: up to 3 posts per mode from different users, chosen and checked as receipts are.

The largest failure is an agent that cannot or will not place calls. It accounts for 53% of complaining user-weeks, and Muse users make up 61% of it. Two smaller modes belong almost entirely to Muse. One is poor conduct during live calls and support chats, where Muse has 88% of the complaints. The other is calling that reaches only business numbers. Spam complaints about mass outreach come from Grok Bot, Hermes Agent and OpenClaw users.

86 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Agent cannot or will not place calls | 46 | 49 | Muse 28, Grok Bot 8, ChatGPT Dots 5, Hark 2, OpenClaw 2, Hermes Agent 1 | The agent says it has no way to phone, text or message anyone, tells the user to make the call, or gives conflicting or unclear answers about whether calling exists or how to turn it on; this includes access stuck behind feedback forms, waitlists or paid plans, but not cases where calling works and is only limited to certain numbers. |
| Automated mass outreach flagged as spam | 9 | 9 | Grok Bot 4, Hermes Agent 2, OpenClaw 2, Muse 1 | Scaled cold emails, DMs or social posts and replies that come out low-quality or obviously AI-written, get poor replies, trigger spam flags, action blocks or account suspensions, or damage the user's account; this excludes one-off contacts with a specific business. |
| Poor conduct in live third-party conversations | 8 | 8 | Muse 7, Grok Bot 1 | During a call or support chat the agent misunderstands, repeats questions, annoys staff until they hang up, garbles messages, or negotiates against the user (for example offering more than the asking price); this excludes calls that never connect or that are blocked by identity checks. |
| Calling limited to business numbers only | 7 | 7 | Muse 7 | Outreach works only for listed business numbers, so the agent refuses to call cell phones, friends, family, sales prospects or the user; this excludes cases where there is no calling feature at all. |
| Blocked by identity verification or anti-bot gates | 5 | 5 | Muse 3, Grok Bot 1, Hark 1 | The other side will not deal with the agent because it needs the account holder to verify identity, give permission, or be a human, and the agent has no way to hand off to the user and then take back over; this excludes the agent simply failing to talk well. |
| Messages or calls fail to send correctly | 4 | 4 | Muse 3, Grok Bot 1 | Technical delivery failures such as texts that stop sending after an update, links that can't be forwarded by text, numbers dialled without the country code, or duplicate sends; this excludes refusals based on missing capability. |
| No follow-through or tracking after contact | 4 | 4 | Muse 3, Hark 1 | After reaching out, the agent forgets who it contacted or why, doesn't finish the rest of the request, doesn't watch for replies or report back, and can't handle the return calls its outreach set off; this excludes problems that happen during the first contact itself. |
| Other | 5 | 5 | ChatGPT Dots 3, Grok Bot 1, OpenClaw 1 | Complaints that fit none of the modes above. |

#### Automated mass outreach flagged as spam

- OpenClaw, 2026-09-30, X search: OpenClaw, openclaw.ai (X): “@bertranddiouly pretty efficient. i tried automated cold email by using openclaw last year, with three touches per lead. the actual reply rate was pretty painful lol.” [source](https://twitter.com/124955210/status/2105291815708672178)
- OpenClaw, 2026-09-16, X search: OpenClaw, openclaw.ai (X): “biggest unlock from muse is meta gtm automation via instagram - can now automate scaled outreach and gtm for my product audiences, a capability i struggled on with my own openclaw harness. meta's data and distribution flywheel is insane and dangerous.” [source](https://twitter.com/98056079/status/2100191158484025411)

#### Poor conduct in live third-party conversations

- Muse, 2026-10-16, X search: Muse from Meta, Meta Muse (X): “i let meta muse talk to customer service bots. it didn’t go well [link]” [source](https://twitter.com/819800/status/2111179507273003503)
- Grok Bot, 2026-10-02, r/GrokBot (Reddit): “i told my grok bot to negotiate pricing on some stuff on facebook and it started offering over asking on a few products . there was another example but i forgot where it totally fumbled i'm done with this garbage. hermes or paperclip on claude. i'm paying for intelligence not stupidity” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GrokBot/comments/1wu2ax2/increase_usage_limits/pdbfao1/)
- Muse, 2026-09-09, @muse (X): “@wailord @muse @bigt_sheesh @christinesed my current piece of feedback is i wasnt able to log into accounts that needed a passkey the browser muse uses timed out multiple times, i also noticed muse kept saying its messages were getting garbled when trying to talk to a support chat on my behalf, i gotta keep using it more” [source](https://twitter.com/1345406875068747777/status/2097835723391111651)

#### Messages or calls fail to send correctly

- Muse, 2026-09-30, Play Store (Play Store): “the sept 29 update broke texting. my assistant can no longer send text messages — every send fails, though it worked fine the day before the update. reading texts still works, and sending manually from messages works, so it's the app, not my phone. restarting and force-stopping change nothing. texting is the whole reason i use this app. one star until it's fixed.” [source](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facebook.aura)

#### No follow-through or tracking after contact

- Muse, 2026-09-21, @muse (X): “@muse find me a room for rent in sf starting october 1sr, message the landlords and then ping me when they reply. ngl i was disappointment when it didn’t work” [source](https://twitter.com/1934316776227237888/status/2101887912216346728)

## Top requests

What users ask to add or change, most asked first. 137 user-weeks ask for something. Requests do not change the Feedback Score. Rule: A separate pass by a large language model reads every counted post and extracts what the user asks the agent or its vendor to add or change, with the criteria it maps to and a short normalised wording; it does not touch the labels or the Feedback Score. A large language model groups the wordings within each criterion (the first criterion the request maps to) into themes, and a second pass merges themes that ask for the same change under different criteria; a merged theme sits under the criterion most of its requests map to, and code counts it once. A theme counts distinct user-weeks that ask for it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Themes asked in fewer than 2 user-weeks, and requests that share no theme, are not shown. Examples: up to 3 posts per theme from different users, without slurs: whole posts of 60 to 450 characters with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, posts of at most 280 characters first, then the newest.

## Posts

Receipts rule: Up to 5 praise and 5 complaint posts per area and 3 per criterion. Each is a whole post of 60 to 450 characters (700 for areas) with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, that judges the criterion, whose labels are all praise or all complaint, and that contains no slur. Posts that touch the fewest criteria come first, then posts of at most 280 characters, then the newest. A second large language model reads the first 3 candidates per slot and keeps a post only if it clearly praises, or clearly complains about, the agent on that criterion. Links and personal details removed by the source show as marks such as [link].
