# Getting tasks done (`act`)

Feedback Bench, personal agents, built 2026-10-19, window 2026-08-31 to 2026-10-18. Web page: https://feedbackbench.com/#/criterion/act

Area of 15 criteria. Does the agent actually do the jobs I hand it, correctly and completely?

Criteria: [Email triage, cleanup and drafting replies](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.email.md), [Calendar entries, conflicts and schedule changes](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.calendar.md), [Booking appointments, reservations, travel and tickets](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.reservations.md), [Buying products, orders and purchase judgment](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.shopping.md), [Forms, applications, claims and life admin paperwork](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.admin.md), [Budgets, transactions, bills and investments](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.finance.md), [Web research, monitoring and summarising information](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.research.md), [Writing code and building apps or websites](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.build.md), [Creating writing, images, video and social posts](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.content.md), [Contacting other people and businesses for you](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.outreach.md), [Operating a browser or desktop by clicking](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.computer_use.md), [Stops short, or hands the task back](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.stops_short.md), [Says it did something it did not do](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.false_reports.md), [Wrong facts, hallucinations and careless mistakes](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.accuracy.md), [Following instructions, rules and corrections](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.instructions.md)

Rated user-weeks, all agents: 13902. Complaint share: 26%.

## The brief

Written by large language models from this page's numbers and the posts it quotes, then checked: every number in the text is in the build. Interpretation, not measurement.

Muse is the best agent at getting tasks done, but its lead does not hold on every job. It ranks high on getting facts right, finishing the job, email, following instructions and driving a browser. It ranks low on building code, making posts and media, and calling people for the user. Grok Bot, 2nd of 9, ranks low on email, following instructions and browser control. Hark ranks high on more of the area's criteria than any other agent. ChatGPT Dots ranks low, 9th of 9. It and OpenClaw rank low on facts, finishing, following instructions and browser control.

## How it breaks

Rule: A separate pass sorts complaints into failure modes. For each criterion with at least 30 complaining user-weeks, a large language model reads 150 complaint posts drawn at random and names 4 to 8 failure modes; a second large language model then puts every complaint post on that criterion in one mode, or in Other when it fits none. Modes are fixed once named, and new posts are sorted into them each week. A mode counts distinct user-weeks with a complaint in it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Modes do not change the labels or the Feedback Score. Examples: up to 3 posts per mode from different users, chosen and checked as receipts are.

The largest failure mode is frequent basic mistakes, which users say force them to check the agent's work all the time. This covers 322 user-weeks, led by Grok Bot and Muse users. Next come made-up facts stated with confidence, and 40% of those come from Muse users. Tasks that need constant babysitting cover 110 user-weeks, led by ChatGPT Dots and OpenClaw users. Tasks dropped partway without a word cover another 110, led by Hermes Agent and OpenClaw users.

### [Email triage, cleanup and drafting replies](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.email.md)

108 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic mailbox actions unsupported or refused | 21 | 24 | Muse 7, Grok Bot 6, ChatGPT Dots 4, Gemini Spark 4 | The agent cannot or will not do a standard mailbox action the user asks for, such as sending, deleting, moving to folders, labelling, unsubscribing, blocking or forwarding without approval; this covers missing capability and outright refusal, not actions that are attempted but fail partway or give wrong results. |
| Send and draft tools fail intermittently | 13 | 13 | Grok Bot 6, ChatGPT Dots 2, Poke 2, Hermes Agent 1, Muse 1, OpenClaw 1 | Email or message sending and in-chat draft cards crash, hit rate limits or database errors, work only some of the time, or fail on some devices such as mobile, so a supported action does not reliably complete; this does not cover permanently missing features or bad wording in emails that do send. |
| Large-inbox cleanup too slow or quota-limited | 11 | 11 | Grok Bot 7, ChatGPT Dots 1, Gemini Spark 1, Muse 1, OpenClaw 1 | When processing a big backlog, the agent handles only a few messages per hour, runs out of usage limits, or offers tiny action batches, so the inbox is never actually cleared; this does not cover wrong deletions or actions the agent cannot do at all. |

### [Calendar entries, conflicts and schedule changes](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.calendar.md)

Fewer than 30 user-weeks complain, too few to sort into failure modes.

### [Booking appointments, reservations, travel and tickets](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.reservations.md)

63 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Booking abandoned and handed back to user | 16 | 16 | Muse 7, Hark 4, Grok Bot 3, ChatGPT Dots 1, Poke 1 | The agent accepts or advertises a booking task but never completes it, for example by stalling, saying its tools are down, or ending with 'here's the number, call yourself'; this does not cover cases where a named third party explicitly blocked it. |
| Overpriced or unsuitable options chosen | 13 | 14 | Muse 7, Grok Bot 4, ChatGPT Dots 1, Poke 1 | The agent finds or books options that are clearly worse than what the user could easily get, such as higher fares than the same booking elsewhere, a longer itinerary, poor-quality or far-away hotels, a delivery-only kitchen instead of a dine-in restaurant, or stale and nonexistent flights; this does not cover cases where the agent booked what it meant to but with the wrong details. |
| Booking slower than doing it manually | 8 | 8 | ChatGPT Dots 3, Gemini Spark 1, Grok Bot 1, Hark 1, Muse 1, OpenClaw 1 | The agent does eventually make progress, but it takes so long (minutes to hours) and needs so much supervision that doing it yourself would have been faster; this does not cover tasks that end in outright failure without any time cost being mentioned. |

### [Buying products, orders and purchase judgment](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.shopping.md)

158 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Checkout or payment fails to complete | 51 | 56 | Hark 44, Muse 3, ChatGPT Dots 1, Grok Bot 1, Hermes Agent 1, OpenClaw 1 | The agent finds the item and fills a cart but cannot finish the purchase, because the payment is declined, a virtual card breaks, the checkout throws errors, it refuses to buy, or it offers no fallback such as letting the user enter their own card; site-level blocking before checkout is out. |
| Retailer sites block the agent | 19 | 19 | Muse 11, Grok Bot 4, ChatGPT Dots 2, Hark 1, OpenClaw 1 | The agent cannot get into or finish work on a shopping site because of bot blocks, captchas, repeated human checks, no access from its cloud browser, or account bans for automated use; this covers access being refused, not a purchase that was reached and then failed. |
| Ordering is slow and needs many turns | 18 | 20 | Hark 11, Muse 5, ChatGPT Dots 1, Grok Bot 1 | Simple orders take far longer or need many more back-and-forth turns than doing them by hand (for example 45 minutes for a grocery order or 12 messages to buy a remote), even when they eventually succeed; total failures caused by blocking are out. |

### [Forms, applications, claims and life admin paperwork](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.admin.md)

51 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Delegated admin creates more manual work | 8 | 9 | Muse 3, Grok Bot 2, ChatGPT Dots 1, Gemini Spark 1, Hermes Agent 1 | Handing over a paperwork or admin job leaves the user with more effort than doing it alone: manual input steps, metadata or filters the agent cannot set, or repeated corrections. It excludes cases where the agent actively damages or deletes the user's records. |
| Submission blocked by third-party portals | 8 | 8 | Grok Bot 4, Muse 4 | The agent cannot finish creating an account, registering, enrolling or searching on an outside site because the portal rejects, refuses or does not allow agent access. Examples are developer enrolment, state unclaimed-money systems, job portals and carrier number transfers. It excludes jobs where the agent gets in but enters bad data. |
| Refunds, returns and cancellations left unfinished | 7 | 7 | Muse 6, Grok Bot 1 | The agent starts a return, refund claim, subscription cancellation or service or domain transfer but stalls, fails or drags on for weeks without finishing. It excludes account-creation or registration attempts. |

### [Budgets, transactions, bills and investments](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.finance.md)

48 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Autonomous trading or betting strategies losing money | 15 | 19 | Grok Bot 11, Muse 2, OpenClaw 2 | The agent places trades, prediction-market bets or quant-strategy orders on its own and loses the user's capital, for example through bad risk/reward, fees eating gains, overtrading or over-leveraging; this does not cover refusing to trade or getting a single instruction wrong. |
| Refusing or unable to execute trades or advise | 10 | 10 | Muse 5, Grok Bot 4, ChatGPT Dots 1 | The agent won't or can't place trades, log into brokerages, give investment recommendations or explain how to use exchange positions, often when users expected that from how it was marketed; this does not cover trades it carried out that then lost money. |
| Inaccurate spending tracking and bookkeeping | 8 | 8 | Grok Bot 4, Muse 4 | The agent gets transactions, holdings, accounting or spreadsheet figures wrong, or tracks them so clumsily that users have to correct it or check everything by hand and stop trusting it with their records; this does not cover gaps caused by accounts it can't connect to. |

### [Web research, monitoring and summarising information](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.research.md)

112 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cannot reach or fully read sources | 19 | 19 | Muse 7, Hermes Agent 4, Gemini Spark 3, Grok Bot 2, ChatGPT Dots 1, Instinct 1, OpenClaw 1 | The agent can't run web search at all, can't browse, can't get into login-gated or platform content (YouTube transcripts, Instagram, Telegram, Marketplace), or reads only part of the data (e.g. 25 of 500 songs, 4 comments); content it retrieves but handles badly is out. |
| Gives up on findable items too early | 14 | 15 | Muse 6, Grok Bot 4, OpenClaw 2, Hermes Agent 1, Poke 1 | The agent says something doesn't exist, can't be found, or must be searched manually (tickets, listings, quotes, known issues, smaller vendors) when a quick human search finds it; cases where the search tool is down or blocked from a source are out. |
| Shallow, generic research passed off as thorough | 14 | 14 | Muse 7, Grok Bot 6, Hermes Agent 1 | The agent delivers thin, bland, cookie-cutter or incoherent findings for research or deep-research requests, often without saying they are incomplete; results that are factually wrong or don't match the request are out. |

### [Writing code and building apps or websites](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.build.md)

196 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Falls short on complex, production-grade projects | 87 | 87 | Grok Bot 33, Hermes Agent 21, Muse 15, OpenClaw 13, ChatGPT Dots 4, Gemini Spark 1 | The agent manages simple scripts or prototypes but fails at full multi-file apps, SaaS products, deep repos or real software work, so users go back to dedicated coding agents. Out: specific bugs in otherwise finished output and missing developer tooling. |
| Offloads building to other tools or users | 22 | 22 | Grok Bot 14, ChatGPT Dots 5, Muse 2, Hermes Agent 1 | Instead of building itself, the agent hands the work to Cursor, cloud coding agents or a CLI, cannot drive the vendor's own builder, or tells the user to fetch credentials or do steps manually. Out: users choosing on their own to pair the agent with another tool. |
| Generated code ships with functional bugs | 18 | 18 | Grok Bot 10, Hermes Agent 3, Muse 3, OpenClaw 2 | The agent delivers code, apps or models that look finished but break when used: broken forms, crashes, blank screens, dozens of bugs, or physical designs missing needed features. Out: the agent being unable to run or deploy the code, and output that works but looks bad. |

### [Creating writing, images, video and social posts](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.content.md)

284 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Generated images ugly, off-prompt or below competitors | 54 | 57 | Muse 24, Grok Bot 22, Hermes Agent 3, ChatGPT Dots 2, Gemini Spark 1, Hark 1, OpenClaw 1 | Still images, logos or edits the agent makes that look low-quality, generic or 'old AI', or that ignore what was asked or the requested edits; video output, keeping a person's identity across outputs and layout of slides/documents are covered by other modes. |
| Bland, sloppy or poorly fitted written content | 53 | 54 | Grok Bot 32, Muse 11, OpenClaw 5, ChatGPT Dots 2, Hermes Agent 2, Hark 1 | Copy, emails, social posts, replies, documents and long-form writing that read as generic AI slop, corny, repetitive, padded, full of jargon, weak in a non-English language, or not in the user's tone; visual layout of the document is out. |
| Videos and animations look broken or crude | 53 | 54 | Muse 31, Grok Bot 11, ChatGPT Dots 7, Hermes Agent 3, OpenClaw 1 | Video, animation or image-to-video output with distorted characters, unrealistic physics or objects, little or no motion, very short clips, poor voiceover or noisy audio, or clumsy editing cuts; refusal to make video at all is out (see unavailable capability). |

### [Contacting other people and businesses for you](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.outreach.md)

86 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Agent cannot or will not place calls | 46 | 49 | Muse 28, Grok Bot 8, ChatGPT Dots 5, Hark 2, OpenClaw 2, Hermes Agent 1 | The agent says it has no way to phone, text or message anyone, tells the user to make the call, or gives conflicting or unclear answers about whether calling exists or how to turn it on; this includes access stuck behind feedback forms, waitlists or paid plans, but not cases where calling works and is only limited to certain numbers. |
| Automated mass outreach flagged as spam | 9 | 9 | Grok Bot 4, Hermes Agent 2, OpenClaw 2, Muse 1 | Scaled cold emails, DMs or social posts and replies that come out low-quality or obviously AI-written, get poor replies, trigger spam flags, action blocks or account suspensions, or damage the user's account; this excludes one-off contacts with a specific business. |
| Poor conduct in live third-party conversations | 8 | 8 | Muse 7, Grok Bot 1 | During a call or support chat the agent misunderstands, repeats questions, annoys staff until they hang up, garbles messages, or negotiates against the user (for example offering more than the asking price); this excludes calls that never connect or that are blocked by identity checks. |

### [Operating a browser or desktop by clicking](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.computer_use.md)

289 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cannot attach to the user's own browser or desktop | 65 | 70 | ChatGPT Dots 19, Hermes Agent 14, Grok Bot 13, OpenClaw 7, Gemini Spark 6, Muse 5, Instinct 1 | The agent can't take control of the user's local browser, desktop or apps at all: the feature is missing, it says it "can't click" in the user's window, or setup never connects it to the user's existing browser and logins. Slow or clumsy control once it is connected belongs elsewhere. |
| Painfully slow step-by-step screen operation | 49 | 49 | Grok Bot 16, Hermes Agent 13, ChatGPT Dots 7, Hark 7, OpenClaw 4, Muse 2 | The agent drives the GUI too slowly to be useful, with seconds to minutes per click, screenshot-and-reason loops, simple tasks taking many minutes and heavy token use, and it doesn't speed up on repeated tasks. Clicks that miss or fail outright are out. |
| Fails basic clicks and form inputs | 45 | 45 | Grok Bot 18, Hermes Agent 15, Muse 9, ChatGPT Dots 1, Gemini Spark 1, Hark 1 | The agent can't carry out elementary interactions on a page it can already reach: it misses or ignores the obvious button, can't type into a modal or field, can't press save, submit or place order, can't scroll, can't handle pop-ups, or clicks the wrong spot because of display-scaling issues. Blocks from captchas or bot detection are out. |

### [Stops short, or hands the task back](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.stops_short.md)

562 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Constant babysitting needed to finish | 110 | 116 | ChatGPT Dots 28, OpenClaw 25, Muse 21, Grok Bot 17, Hermes Agent 17, Hark 1, Poke 1 | Complaints that no meaningful task finishes without repeated prompts, steering, or corrections, to the point where doing it yourself would be faster. This covers general complaints about too much supervision that name no single stopping pattern from the modes above. |
| Silent abandonment partway through a task | 110 | 112 | Hermes Agent 30, OpenClaw 29, Muse 16, ChatGPT Dots 14, Grok Bot 14, Gemini Spark 5, Hark 1, Instinct 1 | The agent stops working mid-task without saying so: the session ends, it freezes, goes quiet, or sits idle while the work is unfinished. This excludes cases where it openly declines, hands steps back, or waits on the user for an explicit reason. |
| Gives up at the first obstacle | 64 | 65 | Grok Bot 20, ChatGPT Dots 12, Muse 12, Hermes Agent 7, OpenClaw 6, Hark 4, Gemini Spark 2, Poke 1 | When it hits a site error, login wall, blocked booking, approval step, or hard bug, the agent quits, gives up within minutes, or tells the user to drop the goal, instead of retrying or finding another way. This excludes cases where it simply stops with no obstacle in sight. |

### [Says it did something it did not do](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.false_reports.md)

401 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| False report of task completion | 88 | 88 | Muse 22, Grok Bot 20, OpenClaw 15, ChatGPT Dots 13, Hermes Agent 10, Hark 4, Gemini Spark 3, Poke 1 | The agent says a task it was asked to do is finished, fixed, sent, posted, checked in or verified when it wasn't, or was only partly done; this covers fabricated 'done' states, partial runs reported as full success and claimed fixes that don't hold, but not cases where the agent openly reports failure. |
| Fabricated results presented as real work | 63 | 70 | Muse 23, Grok Bot 19, Hermes Agent 8, OpenClaw 8, ChatGPT Dots 2, Hark 2, Gemini Spark 1 | The agent makes up outputs, findings, tool results, explanations of failures or details (invented searches, made-up command output, false causes for errors, invented facts) and presents them as coming from real actions; this covers made-up content and diagnoses, but not plain claims that a task is done. |
| Misstating its own capabilities or identity | 56 | 57 | Muse 22, Grok Bot 12, ChatGPT Dots 6, Gemini Spark 4, Hermes Agent 4, OpenClaw 4, Hark 3, Instinct 1 | The agent wrongly says it can do something it can't (calls, video, device control, integrations) or says it can't do something it can, or gives false facts about its model, features or roadmap; this covers bad self-descriptions, but not failures to carry out a task it really can do. |

### [Wrong facts, hallucinations and careless mistakes](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.accuracy.md)

1066 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Frequent basic mistakes needing constant checks | 322 | 327 | Grok Bot 101, Muse 77, OpenClaw 49, Hermes Agent 44, ChatGPT Dots 27, Gemini Spark 16, Hark 4, Poke 3, Instinct 1 | Users report a high general error rate on simple tasks, so every output has to be verified or corrected, often with a sense that quality has dropped over time; complaints that are only about cost, speed or setup bugs, with no wrong output, are excluded. |
| Fabricated facts stated with confidence | 155 | 161 | Muse 62, Grok Bot 42, Hermes Agent 15, OpenClaw 14, ChatGPT Dots 9, Gemini Spark 8, Hark 2, Poke 2, Instinct 1 | The agent invents facts, sources, licences, events or content and presents them as true without hedging, such as made-up fixtures, imaginary words or a fictional book; answers that are only shallow or unhelpful but not false are excluded. |
| Off-topic or garbled responses | 73 | 74 | Hermes Agent 30, Grok Bot 16, Muse 10, OpenClaw 8, ChatGPT Dots 5, Gemini Spark 3, Hark 1 | The agent answers a question that was not asked, adds unrelated content mid-task, or outputs nonsense or mixed-language gibberish; responses that are on topic but factually wrong are excluded. |

### [Following instructions, rules and corrections](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/act.instructions.md)

747 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Request misread and wrong task performed | 120 | 123 | Muse 42, Grok Bot 29, Hermes Agent 19, OpenClaw 14, ChatGPT Dots 11, Gemini Spark 4, Hark 1 | The agent misunderstands what a request means and confidently does something different, such as running the wrong tests, changing the app when asked why the model is slow, or setting the wrong provider; this excludes cases where it understood the request but chose to go beyond it or skip parts of it. |
| Explicit prohibitions and scope limits overridden | 103 | 107 | Hermes Agent 27, Grok Bot 23, Muse 20, OpenClaw 20, ChatGPT Dots 9, Hark 3, Gemini Spark 1 | The agent does what it was told not to do or acts beyond the requested scope without permission, such as sending emails, deleting items, reading off-limits data, pushing to protected branches, rerunning stale tasks, or growing the project; this excludes failures to stop an action that is already running. |
| Correction acknowledged but mistake repeated | 96 | 99 | Grok Bot 28, Muse 26, Hermes Agent 19, OpenClaw 16, ChatGPT Dots 5, Gemini Spark 1, Poke 1 | After the user points out an error, the agent apologises, agrees, or promises to change, then makes the same mistake again or finds a workaround that keeps the behaviour the user rejected; this excludes errors the user never corrected. |

## Top requests

What users ask to add or change, most asked first. 1780 user-weeks ask for something. Requests do not change the Feedback Score. Rule: A separate pass by a large language model reads every counted post and extracts what the user asks the agent or its vendor to add or change, with the criteria it maps to and a short normalised wording; it does not touch the labels or the Feedback Score. A large language model groups the wordings within each criterion (the first criterion the request maps to) into themes, and a second pass merges themes that ask for the same change under different criteria; a merged theme sits under the criterion most of its requests map to, and code counts it once. A theme counts distinct user-weeks that ask for it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Themes asked in fewer than 2 user-weeks, and requests that share no theme, are not shown. Examples: up to 3 posts per theme from different users, without slurs: whole posts of 60 to 450 characters with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, posts of at most 280 characters first, then the newest.

## Posts

Receipts rule: Up to 5 praise and 5 complaint posts per area and 3 per criterion. Each is a whole post of 60 to 450 characters (700 for areas) with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, that judges the criterion, whose labels are all praise or all complaint, and that contains no slur. Posts that touch the fewest criteria come first, then posts of at most 280 characters, then the newest. A second large language model reads the first 3 candidates per slot and keeps a post only if it clearly praises, or clearly complains about, the agent on that criterion. Links and personal details removed by the source show as marks such as [link].
