# Interface and sessions (`interface`)

Feedback Bench, coding agents, built 2026-10-19, window 2026-08-31 to 2026-10-18. Web page: https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/#/criterion/interface

Area of 5 criteria. How do you operate and steer it?

Criteria: [How the interface shows work, and what the user can configure](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/ui.display_settings.md), [Saving, switching, resuming and rewinding sessions](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/ui.session_history.md), [Stopping and steering a running agent](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/ui.interrupt_steer.md), [Mobile, remote-control and voice access](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/surfaces.remote_mobile.md), [Cloud and remote sandbox execution](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/surfaces.cloud_sessions.md)

Rated user-weeks, all agents: 7011. Complaint share: 60%.

## The brief

Written by large language models from this page's numbers and the posts it quotes, then checked: every number in the text is in the build. Interpretation, not measurement.

Devin and Amp lead on how you operate and steer an agent, but neither leads on every criterion. Devin ranks high on clear display and settings and on cloud sessions. Amp ranks high on cloud sessions and mobile control, but ranks low on display and settings. Claude Code ranks high on display, mobile control and session history, but ranks low on cloud sessions. OpenAI Codex ranks low on all four of those criteria and is 13th of 14 overall. 35% of the category's complaints in this area come from its users. No agent ranks high or low on stopping and steering a run.

## How it breaks

Rule: A separate pass sorts complaints into failure modes. For each criterion with at least 30 complaining user-weeks, a large language model reads 150 complaint posts drawn at random and names 4 to 8 failure modes; a second large language model then puts every complaint post on that criterion in one mode, or in Other when it fits none. Modes are fixed once named, and new posts are sorted into them each week. A mode counts distinct user-weeks with a complaint in it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Modes do not change the labels or the Feedback Score. Examples: up to 3 posts per mode from different users, chosen and checked as receipts are.

The three largest problems all concern display and settings. Users say layouts are cluttered and hard to navigate. That covers 514 user-weeks, and 34% of them come from OpenAI Codex users. Next come agent activity hidden from view and interface features removed or regressed by updates. Both come mostly from OpenAI Codex and Claude Code users. In session history, the top complaint is that past sessions are hard to find, and 41% of those complaints come from Claude Code users.

### [How the interface shows work, and what the user can configure](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/ui.display_settings.md)

2506 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cluttered or disorienting layout and navigation | 514 | 550 | OpenAI Codex 173, Claude Code 87, OpenCode 69, Google Antigravity 41, Cursor 33, Zed 33, Amp 30, Devin 13, Pi 13, Factory 6, Conductor 5, GitHub Copilot 4, Warp 4, Cline 3 | Sidebars, thread lists, panes, menus and screens are badly organized, waste space, duplicate entries, can't be split side by side, or make it hard to find threads, projects and older messages; missing settings and visual styling problems are out. |
| Agent activity and reasoning hidden from view | 406 | 421 | OpenAI Codex 141, Claude Code 108, Google Antigravity 39, Cursor 33, OpenCode 30, Amp 15, GitHub Copilot 12, Pi 9, Devin 8, Zed 6, Conductor 2, Factory 2, Cline 1 | The interface collapses, summarizes or leaves out what the agent is doing (tool calls, commands, reasoning, progress, time estimates, thread status) so the user can't follow or check the work; this covers misleading status labels such as 'blocked' or 'completed', but not general layout clutter. |
| Removed or regressed UI features after updates | 387 | 405 | Claude Code 120, OpenAI Codex 108, OpenCode 49, Google Antigravity 25, Cursor 19, Amp 16, Zed 13, Conductor 10, GitHub Copilot 10, Devin 5, Cline 4, Pi 3, Warp 3, Factory 2 | An update removes or breaks a UI capability users relied on, such as buttons, tabs, sidebar actions, a visual editor, filters, or commands that work in one pane but not another; new feature requests with no earlier version are out. |

### [Saving, switching, resuming and rewinding sessions](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/ui.session_history.md)

756 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Past sessions hard to find or organize | 197 | 202 | Claude Code 81, OpenAI Codex 53, Google Antigravity 18, OpenCode 15, Cursor 13, Amp 7, Zed 3, Factory 2, Pi 2, Warp 2, GitHub Copilot 1 | The session list cannot be searched by content or date, is scoped to one folder or project, mixes up projects, reorders itself, scatters sessions, or lacks grouping, renaming, deleting or archiving, so the user cannot locate the session they want; this does not cover sessions that are actually gone. |
| Session history lost after restart or update | 145 | 157 | OpenAI Codex 43, Claude Code 35, Google Antigravity 32, Cursor 13, OpenCode 8, Devin 4, Zed 4, Cline 2, GitHub Copilot 2, Pi 1, Warp 1 | Saved chats, threads or sessions disappear, come back empty or truncated, or get auto-pruned after an app restart, update, reinstall, logout or account switch; this does not cover sessions that still exist but are hard to find. |
| Sessions not shared across surfaces or devices | 114 | 116 | OpenAI Codex 48, Claude Code 33, Google Antigravity 9, Cursor 8, OpenCode 5, Zed 4, Devin 2, Cline 1, GitHub Copilot 1, Factory 1, Pi 1, Warp 1 | A session started in one client (CLI, desktop app, IDE extension, web, phone, remote VM or another machine) cannot be seen, continued or migrated in another, or shows conflicting state there; this does not cover loss within a single client. |

### [Stopping and steering a running agent](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/ui.interrupt_steer.md)

153 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No way to stop or steer mid-run | 30 | 30 | OpenAI Codex 12, Claude Code 7, Google Antigravity 4, Cursor 2, OpenCode 2, Devin 1, Pi 1, Zed 1 | The product has no stop or pause control, no live steering, no way to edit or recall a message just sent, or no queue, so the user can only wait for the run to finish; existing features that are buggy are excluded. |
| Stop or pause command not honoured | 29 | 31 | OpenAI Codex 13, Google Antigravity 5, Claude Code 5, Cursor 2, Cline 1, Devin 1, Kiro 1, OpenCode 1 | The user presses stop, cancels, or tells the agent to stop or pause, and it keeps going, takes many minutes to halt, or stops briefly and then carries on (including goals that restart it); cases where the stop works but destroys work, or where steering messages are ignored, are excluded. |
| Mid-run steering message ignored or lost | 26 | 27 | OpenAI Codex 19, Claude Code 4, Google Antigravity 1, Cursor 1, OpenCode 1 | A guidance message sent while the agent is working is never seen, gets stuck or disappears in the queue, is duplicated or resent, or is only acted on after the whole run ends; products that offer no steering at all and messages that wrongly interrupt are excluded. |

### [Mobile, remote-control and voice access](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/surfaces.remote_mobile.md)

645 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mobile client lacks desktop parity and usability | 128 | 131 | OpenAI Codex 47, Claude Code 33, Cursor 19, Google Antigravity 11, OpenCode 7, Amp 3, Conductor 2, Devin 2, Factory 2, GitHub Copilot 1, Pi 1 | The mobile or remote client is laggy, buggy or terminal-like, or lacks desktop capabilities such as browser, artifacts, diffs, text selection, voice mode or easy interrupts, making phone use frustrating even when connected; this excludes missing apps and connectivity problems. |
| Remote connection drops or fails to pair | 114 | 124 | OpenAI Codex 58, Claude Code 33, Google Antigravity 9, Cursor 8, OpenCode 4, Factory 2 | Remote sessions fail to connect, get stuck searching, fail enrollment or TLS/auth checks, keep asking for credentials, show as offline, or disconnect mid-session or after a while; this excludes features that are missing or merely clunky to set up. |
| Remote control missing from some product surfaces | 97 | 102 | OpenAI Codex 61, Google Antigravity 14, Claude Code 9, Cursor 8, Zed 3, GitHub Copilot 1, Devin 1 | The agent can't be driven from another device at all for a given surface or setup, such as no remote control in the CLI, IDE extension, standalone IDE or a particular desktop OS, or only one-way control between desktops; this excludes cases where remote exists but breaks. |

### [Cloud and remote sandbox execution](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/surfaces.cloud_sessions.md)

454 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Locked-down cloud VM lacks needed capabilities | 74 | 76 | Claude Code 21, OpenAI Codex 20, Cursor 15, Amp 8, Devin 4, Conductor 3, Factory 2, OpenCode 1 | The hosted machine can't do what the work needs, such as SSH, network access, Tailscale, browser or computer use, macOS/iOS builds, multiple repos, or non-GitHub hosts like Bitbucket; setup friction for capabilities it does support is excluded. |
| Forced cloud-only mode without local option | 72 | 73 | Claude Code 21, Cursor 17, OpenAI Codex 12, Google Antigravity 8, Conductor 4, Devin 3, Zed 3, Amp 2, OpenCode 1, Pi 1 | The product pushes users into cloud execution, or ships features that only work in the cloud, with no opt-out or local choice; the opposite complaint, that a product has no hosted option at all, also belongs here. |
| No handoff between local and cloud sessions | 68 | 71 | Claude Code 23, OpenAI Codex 23, Cursor 12, Devin 3, Amp 1, Google Antigravity 1, Conductor 1, Factory 1, OpenCode 1, Pi 1, Zed 1 | Users cannot move a running or saved session between laptop, remote machine and cloud, or get disconnected surfaces (app, CLI, web, mobile) that don't list the same cloud sessions, environments or threads; data loss inside the workspace is excluded. |

## Top requests

What users ask to add or change, most asked first. 3854 user-weeks ask for something. Requests do not change the Feedback Score. Rule: A separate pass by a large language model reads every counted post and extracts what the user asks the agent or its vendor to add or change, with the criteria it maps to and a short normalised wording; it does not touch the labels or the Feedback Score. A large language model groups the wordings within each criterion (the first criterion the request maps to) into themes, and a second pass merges themes that ask for the same change under different criteria; a merged theme sits under the criterion most of its requests map to, and code counts it once. A theme counts distinct user-weeks that ask for it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Themes asked in fewer than 2 user-weeks, and requests that share no theme, are not shown. Examples: up to 3 posts per theme from different users, without slurs: whole posts of 60 to 450 characters with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, posts of at most 280 characters first, then the newest.

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-15, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “@ileppane @dimillian @thsottiaux syncing remotes to the android codex app would close a real gap. until that lands, mobilecli runs codex on the phone itself in a full linux environment with your normal chatgpt plan, so the agent does not need a separate remote host. ### 2. Cross-device session sync

- Devin, 2026-10-18, @cognition (X): “@noah_z_zhang @devinai @devindevelopers @cognition it should do it by default, since sessions are supposed to belong to your account (email) or org” [source](https://twitter.com/1461047860854759434/status/2111632225997582600)

### 4. Overall UI/UX redesign and polish

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-17, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “@thsottiaux one of the main issues that i'm seeing right now, is you have an extremely disconnected experience across the entire codex app. these tools are all good in their own right but the ui and presentation are still very hard to understand fully.” [source](https://twitter.com/230008143/status/2111294081137852768)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-10-14, @antigravity (X): “@antigravity what an awesome model, but you still need to optimize the harness and ui. antigravity is still far behind claude code and codex in terms of user experience.” [source](https://twitter.com/2081687789008224256/status/2110392231471485166)

- Claude Code, 2026-10-15, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “the text pool is neat, i wish i had both, but if i had to choose i'd rather choose the old layout, also the donut context chart was very useful, instead of weekly and 5hr usage limit, which don't explain much..!” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x6t0fx/where_is_the_blue_waffle_looking_usage_stats_at/)

### 8. Group sidebar sessions by project

- Amp, 2026-10-18, @AmpCode (X): “@sqs @crasperjoome @ampcode having a better sidebar would help a lot!” [source](https://twitter.com/474153793/status/2111888285324693551)

### 9. Live visibility of agent actions and commands

- Google Antigravity, 2026-10-16, @antigravity (X): “@geminiapp and @antigravity fix this - i want to read in plain english what its doing , all other models have figured out the importance of human communication and keeping us in the loop while the ai works [link]” [source](https://twitter.com/1809928813012525057/status/2111061155095761369)

- Claude Code, 2026-10-09, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs make the process visual. 👉 architect style skeleton screens and blueprint-like motion graphics that visually communicate what is being done, not just short sentences of what is happening. @grok, @chatgpt, @geminiapp” [source](https://twitter.com/1671730555824553985/status/2108604494015516720)

### 10. Configurable keyboard shortcuts

- Claude Code, 2026-10-15, @ClaudeDevs (X): “i tried to use claude code desktop to see if it's better than the tui but i have to use the mouse a lot. on the askuserquestion tool for instance there is no way to answer without clicking among other issues. going back to the terminal for now until @claudedevs fix this” [source](https://twitter.com/991182752/status/2110750071763374562)

- Cursor, 2026-10-12, @cursor_ai (X): “is it possible to have separate @raycast shortcuts for @cursor_ai ide and agent view? it's tiresome shortcutting to agent window when i'm primarily in ide fine-tuning something” [source](https://twitter.com/1536248836515061767/status/2109590459798716720)

### 11. Agent completion and attention notifications

- Claude Code, 2026-10-17, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@jacksunny18 @claudedevs i think right now the "do it here" option is fine but it keeps everything sequential, would be great to have a clearer view or notifications/inbox of "things that need a decision" because right now it gets lost in the noise” [source](https://twitter.com/157527411/status/2111444906527105357)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-16, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@gracker_gao @claudedevs waiting for this small update on the limit is very understanding of night shift tasks. if the notifications can also distinguish between "stopped due to insufficient quota" and "truly completed," i can just take a look in the morning and take over.” [source](https://twitter.com/1367480252193210376/status/2110938850264817699)

### 12. Customizable model picker

## Posts

Receipts rule: Up to 5 praise and 5 complaint posts per area and 3 per criterion. Each is a whole post of 60 to 450 characters (700 for areas) with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, that judges the criterion, whose labels are all praise or all complaint, and that contains no slur. Posts that touch the fewest criteria come first, then posts of at most 280 characters, then the newest. A second large language model reads the first 3 candidates per slot and keeps a post only if it clearly praises, or clearly complains about, the agent on that criterion. Links and personal details removed by the source show as marks such as [link].

### Pi

- Praise, 2026-10-16, r/PiCodingAgent (Reddit): “i think he means leveraging a multiplexer to create different panels that you can then resize, put on a tab, etc. that would be a rather fancy enhancement but i very much enjoy the current implementation, it's a great idea.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/PiCodingAgent/comments/1x6mwd9/split_thoughtstools_usageresponses_in_separate/ph1sr7a/)
- Praise, 2026-10-16, @pidotdev (X): “i'm impressed with @pidotdev it's the second terminal-based harness i see implementing good accessibility for screen readers. i've tried @opencode and the accessibility is bad unfortunately. i used the web version, it works well. @thdxr please improve the tui accessibility.” [source](https://twitter.com/1988730539722043392/status/2111135168748511362)
- Praise, 2026-10-11, @pidotdev (X): “i tried every harness under the sun and always circle back to @pidotdev. many offer good features, but it's all or nothing. i can’t cherry-pick what i like. it is less effort to customize pi, then spend time circumventing workflows that don’t fully match my needs.” [source](https://twitter.com/14227855/status/2109094404942119003)

- Complaint, 2026-10-11, r/PiCodingAgent (Reddit): “no sure when it broke, but cutting and pasting text seems to be almost impossible in pi 1.1.0. istr reading that this may be related to a "full screen tui" setting, but i can't find such a setting anywhere. anyone know how i can get this functionality back?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/PiCodingAgent/comments/1x3ajxg/how_to_restore_cut_and_paste/)

- Praise, 2026-10-18, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “works fine here. i also vnc into my mac from different devices and remote control from iphone. no issues except for slight delays for updates of course, depending on which shitty wifi network i’m on.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8yhux/anyone_else_struggle_to_keep_remotecontrol/phgs6sj/)
- Praise, 2026-10-18, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i have no inconsistency at my iphone. connected to seperate account 1 windows 1 mac mini both fine, even when claude ask questions. maybe you need to adjust your pc settings, it sleeps the network probably” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8yhux/anyone_else_struggle_to_keep_remotecontrol/phgs6vr/)
- Praise, 2026-10-18, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “never had an issue with mine, they stay up well over a week if i leave them. i would look at your mac settings, it’s the likely cause, sleeping processes or network connections after so long.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8yhux/anyone_else_struggle_to_keep_remotecontrol/phgud61/)
- Praise, 2026-10-18, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “/rc is great while the desktop stays on. onthego is for when you want the files and the session actually on the laptop, like when the desktop is asleep.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x86quk/leaving_my_desk_used_to_mean_reexplaining/phhkaih/)

- Complaint, 2026-10-18, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “yeah i would *really* like it if the card were optional. i feel like the quality of dialogue during a project has dropped dramatically because i can’t learn as i go from the explanations. it’s probably the least user-friendly thing i’ve seen anthropic do” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x93k3s/these_new_cards_cause_claude_not_to_explain_as/phhuqct/)

- Complaint, 2026-10-18, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs please fix this, this redesign is unusable for me! how can i browse and group sessions by repo/directory? it's crazy that i have to sift through all sessions to find an old session in an old repo i haven't worked on for a while. ### OpenCode

- Praise, 2026-10-16, r/opencode (Reddit): “dsh blows in my opinion and not in a good way. if i wanted a bloated ux i’d stick with claude or codex - i use opencode and omp for the minimalist/terminal interface. the latter is a move in the opposite direction.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1x7iqzv/is_opencode_v2_quietly_becoming_the_better/ph6zgs1/)
- Praise, 2026-10-16, r/cursor (Reddit): “the solution for me was to leave cursor, acquire claude max for $100, and instead of using it through the terminal, i use it in opencode + openchamber, which offered me a rich development interface.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1x7d6j4/cursors_days_are_gone_pro_lasts_5_days_super/ph39dyg/)

- Praise, 2026-10-17, @antigravity (X): “got a chromebook hanging around sleeping? keep it open, install linux, install @antigravity, then setup remote control and have it build things for you with gemini 4 argon, all from your phone. i've been having it make and install custom watch faces for my @google pixel watch.” [source](https://twitter.com/2070686785227612162/status/2111491729207537944)
- Praise, 2026-10-14, @antigravity (X): “@seraandroid @rseroter @antigravity remote control is my favourite feature launch of 2026. having access to my coding agent from my phone has been so cool. there have been plenty of times where i'm out and have a cool idea to build out. remote control makes that easy!” [source](https://twitter.com/68870728/status/2110245573408477326)
- Praise, 2026-10-14, @antigravity (X): “this is rad! 🤯 i now have my own, private @antigravity remote control. using the watcher script and a bit of scripting i can now talk on one machine using speech-to-text, and get the content automatically submitted in an instance of 2.0. #buildinpublic [link]” [source](https://twitter.com/112247147/status/2110404817348603906)

- Complaint, 2026-09-10, r/kiroIDE (Reddit): “the cli is horrific lmfao so many free open source ones you could just yoink, login reset, no select copy, the dragging to the top of the windows constantly and looking like it hasn't, jts really bizzare” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/kiroIDE/comments/1wchsii/frontier_models_on_other_providers_vs_the_same/p915boh/)
- Complaint, 2026-10-02, r/kiroIDE (Reddit): “i’m a master’s student and use kiro to help me understand my textbooks, but i keep running into issues with how it displays math. a lot of the time, it just shows raw latex. if i ask it to fix the formatting, it usually fixes the main equations but still leaves the inline math and symbols unrendered. has anyone found a way to get both to render consistently? it works fine for me in codex and claude code, so i’m wondering if i need to prompt kiro differently or if it’s an issue with the chat ui. thanks in advance!” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/kiroIDE/comments/1wvv285/anyone_else_having_trouble_with_latex_rendering/)
- Complaint, 2026-09-07, @kirodotdev (X): “someone from @kirodotdev , please fix the ui , and also bring in modes to auto approve , even if its in autopilot , the model(even sol and opus 5) keeps coming up with random most commands and asking permission every single time . - Complaint, 2026-09-16, r/kiroIDE (Reddit): “i had a runaway agent once. it took all tasks, went into the background and continued for a couple of hours. no stopping of the thing. it survived prompts, commands, sessions and restarts. 100+ tokens on haiku and ~30 tasks later it happily reported in a newly opened session that it finished. micro-skynet experience. good it was a small private project.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/kiroIDE/comments/1whrobc/in_less_than_30_secs_kiro_uses_almost_100_credits/pa4s07y/)

### Grok Build

- Praise, 2026-10-02, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “[link] always liked the way grok build showed images in the terminal. now with mods i built it for claude code. can be found here: `/plugin marketplace add hedingerm/claude-plugins` `/plugin install image-preview@hedingerm` works in ghostty and kitty (it uses the kitty graphics protocol). other terminals just show the file name. needs claude code 2.1.287+, since mods are still early access. source: [[link]” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wvmswb/ok_mods_are_cool/)
