# Memory and state carried across sessions (`context.session_memory`)

Feedback Bench, coding agents, built 2026-10-19, window 2026-08-31 to 2026-10-18. Web page: https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/#/criterion/context.session_memory

Area: [Instructing and context](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/context.md)

**Definition.** Whether knowledge persists correctly between sessions: memory files, re-discovery cost at session start, stale memories, and leakage between sessions.

**Boundary.** Not this: see [Saving, switching, resuming and rewinding sessions](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/ui.session_history.md) for saving and resuming chat transcripts. Not this: see [Persistent project rules files are read and obeyed](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/context.instruction_files.md) for user-written rules.

Rated user-weeks, all agents: 1185. Complaint share: 56%.

## The brief

Written by large language models from this page's numbers and the posts it quotes, then checked: every number in the text is in the build. Interpretation, not measurement.

Claude Code, Pi and OpenCode rank high on remembering across sessions. Their users say projects keep their context from one chat to the next, and that memory runs without needing attention. The criterion draws 1.4% of what users of AI coding agents rate, the 30th most rated of 63 criteria. Most of the discussion comes from Claude Code users. They rate memory 2.65 times as often as other users and write 50% of the category's complaints here. OpenAI Codex and Google Antigravity rank low. Their users describe memory they cannot see into, or memory that vanishes after a restart.

### What separates the best from the rest

Users of the leading agents describe memory that carries a project forward. Claude Code users say a handoff at the end of a long session keeps the major decisions, and Pi users call its memory set and forget. Users of the trailing agents describe memory they cannot trust. OpenAI Codex users say its memory is opaque and kept separate from ChatGPT's, and some turn it off. Google Antigravity users say context disappears after a restart and that skills from one project turn up in another.

  - Claude Code, 2026-10-16, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i just tell claude the context is getting large, so let's prepare for a session handoff. so far that's worked well for several projects that have been ongoing. no major decisions or other aspects of the project have been lost. you can always review earlier sessions as well.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x7txfy/how_do_i_start_a_new_claude_code_context_without/ph7isjd/)
  - Pi, 2026-09-10, r/PiCodingAgent (Reddit): “pi-observational-memory is set and forget. always stays on. i thought most people here were using it when i found it.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/PiCodingAgent/comments/1wc6v2k/the_autocompaction_is_so_frustrating_and/p8xsc19/)
- **Ranks low**: [OpenAI Codex](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/agents/codex.md), [Google Antigravity](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/agents/antigravity.md)
  - OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-11, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “opus 5.5 is great, but i’m convinced it’s the claude code harness that is the real advantage. codex obfuscates memory, and it’s just difficult for me to fully intuit how it’s managing context. i just don’t trust it enough to have all the relevant information” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x37gj3/hi_i_think_i_am_here_to_stay/pf8hctw/)
  - Google Antigravity, 2026-09-16, @antigravity (X): “when working on antigravity, if my pc shuts down for some reason, all the context i gave to the ai agent gets lost. not just today. i’ve been facing this problem quite often @antigravity need to fix this issue” [source](https://twitter.com/1068819095930322945/status/2100113916424757422)

## How it breaks

Rule: A separate pass sorts complaints into failure modes. For each criterion with at least 30 complaining user-weeks, a large language model reads 150 complaint posts drawn at random and names 4 to 8 failure modes; a second large language model then puts every complaint post on that criterion in one mode, or in Other when it fits none. Modes are fixed once named, and new posts are sorted into them each week. A mode counts distinct user-weeks with a complaint in it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Modes do not change the labels or the Feedback Score. Examples: up to 3 posts per mode from different users, chosen and checked as receipts are.

The largest mode is new sessions that start from zero, where the agent re-explores the codebase and asks again for decisions. It covers 31% of complaining user-weeks; Claude Code has 54% of it. Claude Code also has most of two other modes: stale or junk memories that degrade output (63%), and stored memory loaded but not followed (69%). Saved history that silently disappears splits almost evenly between Claude Code and OpenAI Codex.

677 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| New sessions start from zero | 211 | 226 | Claude Code 113, OpenAI Codex 45, Cursor 22, Google Antigravity 11, OpenCode 6, Pi 5, Amp 2, Cline 2, Devin 2, Conductor 1, Factory 1, Grok Build 1 | A fresh or resumed session has none of the earlier project context, so the agent re-explores the codebase, asks again for facts or decisions already given, or repeats investigations and failed fixes, costing tokens and time; this covers missing continuity inside one tool, not loss across different tools (see the next mode) or history that was deleted. |
| Context does not carry across tools or devices | 133 | 142 | Claude Code 59, OpenAI Codex 37, Cursor 20, Google Antigravity 13, Conductor 1, GitHub Copilot 1, Factory 1, Pi 1 | Decisions, rules and task state stay locked inside one agent, surface or machine (e.g. a CLI agent vs. a chat app, one editor vs. another, laptop vs. desktop), so the user has to copy context by hand or re-explain it when switching; this excludes forgetting inside a single tool. |
| Stale or junk memories degrade output | 126 | 142 | Claude Code 80, OpenAI Codex 25, Cursor 6, Devin 5, OpenCode 4, Pi 3, Google Antigravity 1, GitHub Copilot 1, Kiro 1 | The memory system saves irrelevant, overcorrecting or outdated entries (or handoff files go stale without expiry dates) that the agent then trusts as current, so output gets worse and the user has to prune entries or turn memory off; this excludes correct memories that were ignored. |
| Saved history or memory silently disappears | 82 | 85 | Claude Code 29, OpenAI Codex 27, Google Antigravity 16, Pi 4, Cursor 3, OpenCode 2, Devin 1 | Conversation history, saved memories, skills or session state vanish or get truncated after a restart, update or bug, even though the user expected them to persist; this excludes ordinary context-window limits within a live session. |
| Memory leaks between sessions or projects | 56 | 58 | Claude Code 25, OpenAI Codex 15, Google Antigravity 7, Cursor 4, OpenCode 2, Pi 2, Devin 1 | Context from an unrelated session, project, workspace or client bleeds into the current one, for example through memory enabled against the user's setting, colliding project-path keys, or one session answering another's question, so the agent acts on the wrong project; this excludes deliberate context sharing the user asked for. |
| Stored memory loaded but not followed | 45 | 49 | Claude Code 31, OpenAI Codex 9, Cursor 2, Google Antigravity 1, OpenCode 1, Pi 1 | Memory files, rules or decision logs exist and may even be loaded, but the agent doesn't look them up or ignores them and acts against recorded agreements, sometimes admitting the memory was there; this excludes cases where the memory was never saved or has gone stale. |
| Other | 53 | 56 | Claude Code 22, OpenAI Codex 22, Pi 3, Cursor 2, OpenCode 2, Amp 1, Google Antigravity 1 | Complaints that fit none of the modes above. |

#### New sessions start from zero

- Amp, 2026-10-14, @AmpCode (X): “@ampcode @sqs @thorstenball i often have to tell a new orb that credentials for a service are available in my personal secrets. what am i doing wrong. usually just happens in new projects maybe....” [source](https://twitter.com/2013340343064772608/status/2110507535560310818)

#### Context does not carry across tools or devices

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-09, r/codex (Reddit): “i never use the built in memory. the split from codex and chatgpt memory drives me nuts, it's also a pita. i do like having decisions and friction logged for improving my own docs though. for planning, i use a 2nd brain of my own that's customizable and not vendor reliant.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1x1j1fp/memory_yea_or_nay/petx0iz/)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-06, r/ClaudeAI (Reddit): “thats true, unless you care about a centralized memory system for claude. you don't get that with claude code, only per-repo instructions. i keep all my repo instructions in my internal wiki, so this doesn't help me at all.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1wxs6hj/local_cowork_is_gone_tomorrow_moving_to_claude/pe7mjuh/)

#### Stale or junk memories degrade output

- Claude Code, 2026-10-17, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “yeah that's basically what the memory directory is too, just a notes file claude loads on its own. the part that bit me was the notes going out of date, so now every rule has a date and gets rechecked after 90 days. do you update yours by hand?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8aikj/how_do_you_keep_claude_code_from_forgetting_your/phc03kk/)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-15, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “thanks. it saved a memory to launch 3 agents and compile after every change. the memory feature is getting pretty annoying.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x63wa9/opus_55_workflow_experience/pguq824/)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-13, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “check your memory files... i see it makes its own rules up. you said this one thing one time.. so i made it a rule and i will cater my entire workflow around it because you said or did it once. - opus” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x470at/theory_on_opus_55_language_degradation/pgdvl9w/)

#### Saved history or memory silently disappears

- Pi, 2026-10-15, @pidotdev (X): “@pidotdev psa: on my pc, closing pi and continuing a session made the clankas forget some tools. for whatever reason /reload fixed them. one of them even figured it will spawn another pi agent and ask it to send it a /reload command lol” [source](https://twitter.com/183580487/status/2110872275750973675)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-15, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs if the memory is being preserved, then if you don't understand it just by working on it, it has no meaning. it was deleted without permission, and the things i built up with 5 are gone.” [source](https://twitter.com/1456128631382495232/status/2110563631465418773)

#### Memory leaks between sessions or projects

- Claude Code, 2026-10-13, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “lol i turned memory off because of this and then it started putting what would have been memories into project settings lol smh” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x470at/theory_on_opus_55_language_degradation/pgh38nh/)
- Claude Code, 2026-09-28, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “turn off global memory settings - new harness added this default on, causing a lot of cross session contamination if you don’t toggle it off.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wsjktn/claude_unreliable_v/pclxagf/)

#### Stored memory loaded but not followed

- Claude Code, 2026-10-09, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i do, sometimes it will save something to it's memory about the session after i say that. not sure why it doesn't do it when i merge the pr.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x12bm1/am_i_the_only_one_who_tells_claud_thank_you_and/perd1ep/)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-06, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i typically measure actual reads of the referenced memory files that claude saves. if you are putting actual rules in the index line, you are already inadvertently working around the product gaps of auto memory and doing the work that claude is cutting corners on” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wyzsvm/what_six_months_of_claude_code_auto_memory_looks/pe7ce47/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-24, r/codex (Reddit): “same. in fact, this has made me drop codex for this next month. i just can't anymore. i was using astra ultra and it started going to a pattern we agreed was bad. in fact, it admitted it ignored the historical docs that it knew were there that recorded that agreement.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1woxxj2/this_needs_more_attention/pbt16u1/)

#### Other

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-11, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “opus 5.5 is great, but i’m convinced it’s the claude code harness that is the real advantage. codex obfuscates memory, and it’s just difficult for me to fully intuit how it’s managing context. i just don’t trust it enough to have all the relevant information” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x37gj3/hi_i_think_i_am_here_to_stay/pf8hctw/)

## Top requests

What users ask to add or change, most asked first. 350 user-weeks ask for something. Requests do not change the Feedback Score. Rule: A separate pass by a large language model reads every counted post and extracts what the user asks the agent or its vendor to add or change, with the criteria it maps to and a short normalised wording; it does not touch the labels or the Feedback Score. A large language model groups the wordings within each criterion (the first criterion the request maps to) into themes, and a second pass merges themes that ask for the same change under different criteria; a merged theme sits under the criterion most of its requests map to, and code counts it once. A theme counts distinct user-weeks that ask for it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Themes asked in fewer than 2 user-weeks, and requests that share no theme, are not shown. Examples: up to 3 posts per theme from different users, without slurs: whole posts of 60 to 450 characters with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, posts of at most 280 characters first, then the newest.

### 1. Built-in persistent memory across sessions

- Claude Code, 2026-10-16, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs faster turns are great. the next speed-up is the human one: starting a session already knowing the role, the stack and the house rules. less re-explaining every morning, more shipping.” [source](https://twitter.com/2110806845271027712/status/2111222276242706684)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-11, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “persistent context (doesn't disappear after finished task), i believe, and the ability to "talk" between them.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x2k7dz/if_you_dont_have_access_to_claude_code_projects/pf5n4xc/)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-11, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs make "projects" a long-term conversation, the real value is that the context no longer needs to be repeated every time. the key is how it handles conflicts and expiration of cross-session memory.” [source](https://twitter.com/1038483863360557056/status/2109103293469192510)

### 2. Search past conversations

- Google Antigravity, 2026-10-18, @antigravity (X): “@yourgolddwarf @_mohansolo @antigravity the real issue isn’t open source it’s workflow friction. incremental history search should be table stakes for agent clis; good ux means fewer context switches, not more panels.” [source](https://twitter.com/2063704441619140608/status/2111738892634542525)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-17, @ClaudeDevs (X): “i really dislike starting new chat threads for ai agents. there should just be one continuous interaction that remembers your full history and automatically retrieves relevant context when needed. please build this @trq212 @claudedevs @claudeai @anthropicai #only_one_chat” [source](https://twitter.com/1412083790005129220/status/2111502938816631223)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-10-15, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “why are we still only with cross conversation read and no cross conversation write yet? this is necessary for having more management for context and workflows and so on” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1x6w4dx/antigravity_app_releases_v2220_v2231/pgz6j9t/)

### 3. Automatic session handoff summaries

- Claude Code, 2026-10-16, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “it causes information loss and possible regressions for the new sessions. modify it to make it comphrensive” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x776ms/auto_handoff_are_the_best_new_feature/ph285mn/)
- Google Antigravity, 2026-10-06, @antigravity (X): “@adhidesign @googledeepmind @antigravity hi 👋, just came across an issue - when you delete a worktree in git, you have no choice than to delete the associated "chat". it would be nice to have an option to transfer the context to another worktree.” [source](https://twitter.com/1471445151423868932/status/2107512997728153865)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-01, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “a handover skill with plan mode + clear context is honestly extremely underrated. kilo code actually pioneered this. not sure why claude code (cc) hasn't implemented this yet. cc native compact is lossy and vague, and should be phased out altogether.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wv9jxk/nerf_fixed/pd9ztbx/)

### 4. Shared memory across different agent tools

- Cursor, 2026-10-15, @cursor_ai (X): “will @cursor_ai agents ever be able to reference @bot sessions, i want my cursor coding agent to know bot context and actions that were most recently done” [source](https://twitter.com/1189092726404288512/status/2110522468247179617)
- Cursor, 2026-10-12, @cursor_ai (X): “@elonmusk @cursor_ai add some kind of minimal db support for bots. i should not have to connect or start a service for notion, or other, just to get some kind of cross agent data store. object db, no sql, index db, or other ideas.” [source](https://twitter.com/1083235017013239808/status/2109637792800346321)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-11, r/vibecoding (Reddit): “would be nice to pull context from claude code/codex into a shared system that works across the board that works. i keep switching between codex and cc, can really use a shared mem system.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/vibecoding/comments/1x30gr1/im_building_an_open_protocol_for_sharing_memory/pf79ava/)

### 5. Auditable reversible memory changes

- Devin, 2026-10-08, @cognition (X): “@cognition 'remove stale records' is the sentence i'd want a diff for. memory that silently rewrites itself across sessions is how a clean approval turns into a batched one six weeks later. versioned and auditable or it's just vibes with a schema.” [source](https://twitter.com/372889273/status/2108245596717133950)
- Devin, 2026-10-06, @cognition (X): “@cognition can i review and revert the overnight memory changes? an inferred preference needs a way to correct it when devin gets it wrong.” [source](https://twitter.com/1898512810272763904/status/2107567161229377558)
- Devin, 2026-10-06, @cognition (X): “@cognition i'd want the overnight rewrite as a diff. if dreaming commits memory changes straight in, nobody sees why the agent started behaving differently on monday. a reviewable pr for memory would make teams trust it.” [source](https://twitter.com/2040696623764766720/status/2107489519985688794)

### 6. Persistent project-level memory

- Claude Code, 2026-10-14, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i do think the project memory would be handy. now i have to manage storing my briefs, lessons learnt, and decisions at the right place and making sure claude actually finds it. so this projects feature would remove that cognitive burden” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x5n490/how_to_use_claude_code_projects_effectively/pgnyb7d/)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-07, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “if it would be able to access projects and project memory that would be peak.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wzxbtn/claude_chat_just_got_so_much_better/pej7d4v/)
- OpenCode, 2026-09-24, @opencode (X): “really enjoying @opencode. i’ve been using gbrain to persist project decisions and context across sessions. what are people using, and what has actually worked well? @thdxr any plans for built-in memory?” [source](https://twitter.com/385457565/status/2103017169944727720)

### 7. Scoped memory by repo, task or global

- Claude Code, 2026-10-18, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “how do you scope a verified fix to the versions and conditions in its repro? i'd want the agent to see 'passed on this setup' alongside the test output, so it doesn't treat an old fix as current advice after a dependency upgrade.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8soon/made_an_mcp_server_so_claude_code_stops_resolving/phfn60t/)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-09, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i usually add the .md files to gitignore, sometimes i wouldn't want some context to be added to it's memory. is there a gatekeeping sort of a mechanism in place?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x1vju8/how_you_share_contexts_between_agents/pex5aul/)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-09, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs read-only slack and github tokens for the scheduled run, and nothing else. is memory per agent, or can i point it at a file in the repo?” [source](https://twitter.com/2100785586101731328/status/2108386873119048114)

### 8. Forgetting and expiring stale memories

- Claude Code, 2026-10-09, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs one test i'd add: remove access to a source after the agent has saved it in memory, then run the next scheduled update. does that old context still appear? that seems worth checking before posting summaries into a channel with a different audience.” [source](https://twitter.com/1720792066488401920/status/2108392774659956820)
- Devin, 2026-10-06, @cognition (X): “@dabit3 @dabit3 i'd want memory confidence to fade at different rates. food preferences can age faster than language preferences. how does @cognition's dreaming handle a memory that's getting stale when nothing new has contradicted it?” [source](https://twitter.com/23100338/status/2107454593076748460)
- Claude Code, 2026-09-17, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@buburdin @claudedevs lol yes, but they keep updating "context" about you without any disposal dates. and give you creepy notifications like "context updated: wife".” [source](https://twitter.com/718427679125598208/status/2100593921071940009)

### 9. Projects feature with shared context across threads

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-10, r/codex (Reddit): “part of me feels like it could be a design flaw with its single long chat thread and internal compaction. i wish we could set the multiple purpose-built dots like you can with grok bots” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1x209ei/tried_dot_for_1_week_and_it_won_me/pf18562/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-25, X search: OpenAI Codex, Codex CLI, Codex app (X): “@theo seeing generated images in chat - i do lots of automated app testing. love seeing what the agent is doing while he goes. codex app works best here. another thing which would be nice is create projects, with custom context for handling multiple threads.” [source](https://twitter.com/2012897420955242496/status/2103391499979309246)

### 10. Self-improving skills and instruction files

- Claude Code, 2026-10-18, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “why doesn't the harness just suggest or do this stuff automatically? they already monitor whether you're trying to make a super virus, can't they also detect when you're doing something stupid with context?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x966ii/why_does_everyone_disregard_anthropics_best/phim9cj/)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-06, @ClaudeDevs (X): “why doesnt @claudeai @claudedevs and @chatgpt release an ambient sub-agent that is continually analyzing local traces and spans and optimizing my skills and claude.md/agents.md file while suggesting auto-evals based on prompting patterns and data patterns ?” [source](https://twitter.com/67338503/status/2107525295788159435)

### 11. Persistent task and progress tracking

- Claude Code, 2026-10-15, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs the live to-do list is the part i'd want to outlive the session. once the plan's items live somewhere outside the chat, the recap card can point at them and the next session starts from the list instead of from a summary” [source](https://twitter.com/1100514677971447808/status/2110730602634756478)

- Cursor, 2026-09-16, @cursor_ai (X): “@web3withsingh @cursor_ai natural language to a structured report needs a ranked source step, not just summarize. persist task state in postgres so retries do not redo the whole search.” [source](https://twitter.com/2026279107617787904/status/2100195846599954867)

### 12. Persist run artifacts and failed approaches

- Google Antigravity, 2026-10-13, @antigravity (X): “@antigravity two days across 17 languages is wild. the part i'd want written down is what each agent logged so the next language run didn't restart from the brief, otherwise you're just paying for the same calibration 17 times” [source](https://twitter.com/2094552243181588480/status/2110154447477481657)
- Pi, 2026-10-11, r/PiCodingAgent (Reddit): “for jobs that outlive their parent session, save the model, thinking level and loaded skill versions alongside the result. a later session can then tell which configuration actually produced it.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/PiCodingAgent/comments/1x3b00i/pimultiagentskill_minimalist_subagents_approach/pf9k1yy/)
- Claude Code, 2026-09-19, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs cloud threads are convenient; they also make provenance non-optional. persist exact prompts, tool outputs, checkpoints, and failed branches, with a human-approved rollback path before a coordinator resumes unattended. disagree?” [source](https://twitter.com/1610030489238401026/status/2101351754080178491)

## Posts

Receipts rule: Up to 5 praise and 5 complaint posts per area and 3 per criterion. Each is a whole post of 60 to 450 characters (700 for areas) with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, that judges the criterion, whose labels are all praise or all complaint, and that contains no slur. Posts that touch the fewest criteria come first, then posts of at most 280 characters, then the newest. A second large language model reads the first 3 candidates per slot and keeps a post only if it clearly praises, or clearly complains about, the agent on that criterion. Links and personal details removed by the source show as marks such as [link].

### Claude Code

- Praise, 2026-10-16, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i just tell claude the context is getting large, so let's prepare for a session handoff. so far that's worked well for several projects that have been ongoing. no major decisions or other aspects of the project have been lost. you can always review earlier sessions as well.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x7txfy/how_do_i_start_a_new_claude_code_context_without/ph7isjd/)
- Complaint, 2026-10-17, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “what it picks by itself is often pretty generic or duplicated. so when something goes wrong i tell it explicitly to write that as a rule, and i clean up the rest now and then.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8aikj/how_do_you_keep_claude_code_from_forgetting_your/phbzhfa/)
- Complaint, 2026-10-17, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “yeah that's basically what the memory directory is too, just a notes file claude loads on its own. the part that bit me was the notes going out of date, so now every rule has a date and gets rechecked after 90 days. do you update yours by hand?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8aikj/how_do_you_keep_claude_code_from_forgetting_your/phc03kk/)
- Complaint, 2026-10-15, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “opus noted memory down to launch 3 reviews for each task - don't know where it got that from. i'm also compiling rust, that doesnt help with build times...” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x63wa9/opus_55_workflow_experience/pgupo6u/)

### Pi

- Praise, 2026-09-10, r/PiCodingAgent (Reddit): “pi-observational-memory is set and forget. always stays on. i thought most people here were using it when i found it.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/PiCodingAgent/comments/1wc6v2k/the_autocompaction_is_so_frustrating_and/p8xsc19/)
- Complaint, 2026-10-15, @pidotdev (X): “@pidotdev psa: on my pc, closing pi and continuing a session made the clankas forget some tools. for whatever reason /reload fixed them. one of them even figured it will spawn another pi agent and ask it to send it a /reload command lol” [source](https://twitter.com/183580487/status/2110872275750973675)
- Complaint, 2026-09-21, @pidotdev (X): “@pidotdev not only did pi-observational-memory break, but the openviking memory integration broke as well - badly enough that we had to manually repair the session history and delete corrupted data.” [source](https://twitter.com/33923041/status/2102039242155196862)

### OpenCode

- Praise, 2026-09-08, @opencode (X): “stipulate + @opencode v2 is crazier than i expected. opencode’s shared backend manages sessions and tool execution. stipulate keeps the specs, decisions and evidence in the repo, ready for the next session. just tested the full workflow, from bootstrap to archive. @thdxr you're a goat 🐐” [source](https://twitter.com/2188850740/status/2097439402469241114)
- Complaint, 2026-09-19, r/opencode (Reddit): “same here, mine was like chinese then after resuming it was in english but editing a project i dont know from a machine i don't know... my machine path is /home/george/... but it was editing a code from /home/sam/... i have no machine in my home with that username whatsoever...” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1wk4km1/weird_thing_just_happened/paod16n/)

### Cursor

- Praise, 2026-10-03, @cursor_ai (X): “migrations stop dying in chat history when the coordinator keeps context for months. i've been putting larger meniuz work into @cursor_ai projects instead of one-off agent sessions — same codebase knowledge, less re-explaining. #cursor #agents #buildinpublic #ai” [source](https://twitter.com/262960825/status/2106429435712786483)
- Praise, 2026-09-28, @cursor_ai (X): “@fatih @cursor_ai yeah a central hub project changed how i run cursor too. one place for the shared context beats five scattered chats.” [source](https://twitter.com/1446280322379759617/status/2104392515587817622)
- Praise, 2026-09-23, @cursor_ai (X): “growing more and more fond of @cursor_ai projects and @bot as i get to use it more on my own projects. it's so freeing to have shared context about big projects in one place rather than passing things around here and there between different agents. simplifies work a lot!” [source](https://twitter.com/1299357060497371136/status/2102764493524877510)
- Complaint, 2026-09-26, @cursor_ai (X): “@myguypye @bot @cursor_ai @poteto @lingxi i run grok bot as my personal agent and the learn loop is half the value. cursor agents that stay amnesiac across harness runs just make you re-teach the same repo quirks.” [source](https://twitter.com/18615861/status/2103723031587631232)

### Google Antigravity

- Praise, 2026-09-24, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “i've tried migrating 2.0 and cli conversations into ide and vice versa with symlinks for a month, and it has been working fine since then, whenever i use ide, cli or 2.0 (mainly in vscode extension). there are many things to migrate, not just the `brain` folder.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wez4s3/how_do_you_sync_conversations_between_antigravity/pbq0pkj/)
- Praise, 2026-10-13, @antigravity (X): “yup shared checkpoint has been the key to my continuous agentic development actually! so that when chat context window gets full, a new window/bot can always reiterate, or even when they auto truncate older chat context. antigravity actually spin up a git hun repo just for memory sake so that i have identical bots/chats across both platforms and they share the same memory lane per specified agent. really cool stuff 😁” [source](https://twitter.com/1159020043306504192/status/2109994796844482871)
- Praise, 2026-09-25, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “bost/teamwork keep state in the .agent folder. so if it stops abruptly for whatever reason including quota it can self heal and resume later. you just go back to the same conversation and ask it to resume when the quota refreshes. i heard about state getting corrupted somewhere but i've never experienced it myself.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wq33ye/checkpoint_prompt_before_antigravity_usage_runs/pc1qd4m/)
- Complaint, 2026-09-30, @antigravity (X): “your restart your pc just to find out all your recent antigravity ide conversations in different projects are gone this is a torture @antigravity that happens occasionally” [source](https://twitter.com/1716956674961903616/status/2105371980170215891)
- Complaint, 2026-09-23, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “i cannot turn off brain. even if i permission gate its directory or symlink it to /dev/null, the agent brings it back.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wnqoya/antigravity_2_release_v2160/pbizo17/)

### OpenAI Codex

- Praise, 2026-10-14, r/codex (Reddit): “same but the reason might be the memory codex has. it builds a huge memory base by itself what it does and those gotchas unlike claude unless you have a plan for it.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1x4t451/gpt_sol_61_is_more_reliable_for_me/pgmej3b/)
- Complaint, 2026-10-11, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “opus 5.5 is great, but i’m convinced it’s the claude code harness that is the real advantage. codex obfuscates memory, and it’s just difficult for me to fully intuit how it’s managing context. i just don’t trust it enough to have all the relevant information” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x37gj3/hi_i_think_i_am_here_to_stay/pf8hctw/)
- Complaint, 2026-10-09, r/codex (Reddit): “i never use the built in memory. the split from codex and chatgpt memory drives me nuts, it's also a pita. i do like having decisions and friction logged for improving my own docs though. for planning, i use a 2nd brain of my own that's customizable and not vendor reliant.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1x1j1fp/memory_yea_or_nay/petx0iz/)

### Devin

- Praise, 2026-10-05, @cognition (X): “@cognition @cognition tried it on the memory claude code kept for my project: 19 notes over 10 days. made it a git repo. a fresh devin session recalled what claude code had learned, then dreamed on it: 21 commits, 19 → 14 notes, duplicates merged, stale notes gone. ### GitHub Copilot

- Praise, 2026-09-26, r/ChatGPTPro (Reddit): “permanent sources of truth for different pieces. for work i use these models through github copilot and all the major decisions and testing procedures get recorded in separate places. including what needs to stay immutable between releases, for example a performance db acting as a reference. i don’t know how good codex is at doing all this since i do the bulk of the work in github copilot. that really helps a lot with organising things.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPTPro/comments/1wqg5xx/how_do_you_keep_long_chatgpt_projects_from/pc3yzjq/)

### Amp

- Praise, 2026-09-16, @AmpCode (X): “then i brought grok 4.6 to rescue, since @ampcode each thread can read other threads- it was easy to take over from main thread and finish the job. grok finished the job and i had some more usage left on it as well also liked once gpt usage is over amp shows different options to continue and retry!” [source](https://twitter.com/85549810/status/2100155757157118127)
- Complaint, 2026-10-14, @AmpCode (X): “@ampcode @sqs @thorstenball i often have to tell a new orb that credentials for a service are available in my personal secrets. what am i doing wrong. usually just happens in new projects maybe....” [source](https://twitter.com/2013340343064772608/status/2110507535560310818)
- Complaint, 2026-09-11, @AmpCode (X): “@ampcode puck keeps asking me what project i want to spin up orbs in and i only have one would be cool if he knew that and/or i could set a default. also i'd fully be willing to pay $$$ for gpt-live-1 for puck the vesper voice is close enough although not quite as perfect but i'd accept that tradeoff” [source](https://twitter.com/70623546/status/2098452077039247531)

### Cline

- Complaint, 2026-09-29, @cline (X): “@cline great for the repo... still blank on the research tab i closed yesterday coding agents need user memory not just codebase memory” [source](https://twitter.com/1710966407146663936/status/2105033909054619957)

### Conductor

- Praise, 2026-09-13, @conductor_build (X): “get multiple codex subscriptions and switch between them i use @conductor_build and all i need to do is to re-login in the provider to the other email/account and all my context and code sessions stay and i dont have to worry about that so you dont pay for extra limit resets, you just need to have multiple subscriptions” [source](https://twitter.com/1689067564058447873/status/2099141354156646409)
