# Pricing and plan terms stated clearly and consistently (`billing.pricing_clarity`)

Feedback Bench, coding agents, built 2026-10-19, window 2026-08-31 to 2026-10-18. Web page: https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/#/criterion/billing.pricing_clarity

Area: [Paying and limits](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/paying.md)

**Definition.** Whether pricing pages, docs and plan descriptions clearly and consistently state costs, limits and what 'unlimited' means.

**Boundary.** Not this: see [Price, allowance or plan terms changed](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/limits.allowance_change.md) when terms actually changed. Not this: see [Usage meter visibility and accuracy](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/limits.usage_meter.md) for in-product usage display.

Rated user-weeks, all agents: 1055. Complaint share: 95%.

## The brief

Written by large language models from this page's numbers and the posts it quotes, then checked: every number in the text is in the build. Interpretation, not measurement.

No coding agent is clearly best at stating what its plans cost and include. Claude Code places first, but its score stays within reach of the category norm, and its users complain far more often than they praise. Almost everyone who raises pricing is unhappy: 95.4% of rated user-weeks complain, the 5th highest complaint share among criteria. OpenAI Codex places 6th of 6 and is the only ranked agent worse than the category norm. Its users write 32% of the category's complaints here.

### What separates the best from the rest

No agent ranks high and none ranks low. Apart from OpenAI Codex, every ranked agent sits close enough to the category norm that its place could change. The agents differ mostly in which complaints come up. Claude Code users most often describe plan labels such as "5x" or "20x" that promise more than the weekly allowance delivers. OpenAI Codex users describe more kinds of problems: limits sold as "more usage" with no numbers, models marketed as cheap that use up a subscription faster, and regional prices that do not follow the dollar price.

- **Ranks high**: no agent
- **Ranks low**: no agent

## How it breaks

Rule: A separate pass sorts complaints into failure modes. For each criterion with at least 30 complaining user-weeks, a large language model reads 150 complaint posts drawn at random and names 4 to 8 failure modes; a second large language model then puts every complaint post on that criterion in one mode, or in Other when it fits none. Modes are fixed once named, and new posts are sorted into them each week. A mode counts distinct user-weeks with a complaint in it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Modes do not change the labels or the Feedback Score. Examples: up to 3 posts per mode from different users, chosen and checked as receipts are.

Two modes tie as the largest, each with 18% of complaining user-weeks. In one, pricing pages call allowances "unlimited" or "more usage" with no numbers; OpenAI Codex users write 39% of these. In the other, plans do not say which models they cover, and Cursor users lead. Cursor users write 50% of complaints about upgrade and renewal terms. OpenAI Codex users write 66% of complaints about regional prices that do not track the dollar price.

1007 complaining user-weeks.

| Failure mode | User-weeks | Posts | Agents (user-weeks) | Definition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Usage limits unquantified or falsely called unlimited | 185 | 190 | OpenAI Codex 73, OpenCode 35, Claude Code 28, Cursor 19, Devin 13, Google Antigravity 8, Cline 4, GitHub Copilot 2, Augment Code 1, Factory 1, Kiro 1 | Pricing pages and docs describe allowances as "more usage", "unlimited" or "free" without publishing any numbers, so users only find the caps when they hit rate limits or quota errors; disclosed limits that users merely think are too low are out. |
| Unclear which models and pools a plan covers | 179 | 193 | Cursor 60, OpenAI Codex 32, Claude Code 29, OpenCode 29, Google Antigravity 14, Devin 8, GitHub Copilot 3, Factory 2, Cline 1, Grok Build 1 | Plan text does not make clear which models, products or usage pools are included, whether bundled or stacked subscriptions add up, or whether a "separate" limit really draws from the shared weekly quota; unclear prices for a single item are out. |
| Advertised model price misstates plan consumption | 136 | 143 | OpenAI Codex 54, Claude Code 29, Cursor 20, OpenCode 20, Devin 4, Kiro 4, Google Antigravity 3, Cline 1, Warp 1 | A model is marketed as cheaper, or given a credit multiplier, based on API token prices, but on subscriptions it uses up allowance faster or costs more per task, or speed modes and options like zero data retention quietly raise the cost; complaints about model quality alone are out. |
| Tier multiplier labels overstate real allowance | 134 | 143 | Claude Code 58, OpenAI Codex 54, OpenCode 11, Cursor 7, Devin 2, Google Antigravity 1, Kiro 1 | A plan is sold with a multiplier such as "5x" or "20x" that applies only to a short session window or one usage pool, so the weekly or total allowance grows much less than the label suggests; complaints that limits were simply lowered with no label involved are out. |
| Promotions and resets with hidden conditions | 130 | 149 | Claude Code 31, OpenAI Codex 29, Google Antigravity 23, OpenCode 19, Cursor 18, Devin 7, GitHub Copilot 1, Factory 1, Kiro 1 | Promos, bonus credits, banked resets or bundled grants are advertised without their real terms (time limits, shifted reset dates, allowance cut after the first cycle, "free" that is only discounted, coupons never delivered); ordinary changes to the regular price are out. |
| Docs, dashboard and invoice figures disagree | 97 | 101 | OpenAI Codex 30, OpenCode 28, Cursor 16, Claude Code 14, GitHub Copilot 2, Amp 1, Google Antigravity 1, Cline 1, Devin 1, Grok Build 1, Kiro 1, Zed 1 | Prices, quotas or charges are different across pricing pages, docs, in-app usage dashboards and invoices, are missing for newly released models, point to page sections that do not exist, or appear as duplicated, confusing line items; a price that is stated the same everywhere but feels too high is out. |
| Upgrade, proration and renewal terms not shown | 70 | 76 | Cursor 35, OpenAI Codex 16, Claude Code 10, GitHub Copilot 3, OpenCode 2, Amp 1, Google Antigravity 1, Devin 1, Factory 1 | The billing flow does not make clear how upgrades, downgrades, annual renewals, proration, waiting periods or required acceptance of new terms will affect charges, which leads to surprise payments or lost prepaid amounts; failed refunds that are only a support problem are out. |
| Regional currency pricing inconsistent with dollar price | 41 | 44 | OpenAI Codex 27, Claude Code 8, Cursor 3, Google Antigravity 1, GitHub Copilot 1, OpenCode 1 | Prices outside the US are converted 1:1 or inconsistently across tiers (for example $200 billed as €200 while other tiers follow the exchange rate), or regional prices change without explanation; differences that are only VAT and are clearly disclosed are out. |
| Other | 76 | 79 | OpenAI Codex 29, Claude Code 14, Cursor 8, Google Antigravity 7, Devin 5, OpenCode 5, GitHub Copilot 4, Amp 1, Cline 1, Factory 1, Zed 1 | Complaints that fit none of the modes above. |

#### Usage limits unquantified or falsely called unlimited

- Devin, 2026-10-17, @cognition (X): “@scarletkc @cognition i also haven't received much usage information about my devin pro and max. i've always wanted to upgrade to the maximum plan, but they haven't mentioned how much more usage it offers compared to the pro $20 plan, which makes me hesitant to upgrade.” [source](https://twitter.com/2110945071172554752/status/2111457261952565504)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-16, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs good to see code review go ga. for individual max subscribers, could you publish the actual session and weekly allowance per tier? "5x pro" is hard to plan a monthly budget around when usage varies by model, effort and features.” [source](https://twitter.com/1980410713379123200/status/2111141892293382417)
- Devin, 2026-10-13, r/cursor (Reddit): “i just find it so hard to commit to pricing that isn't usage-based. like the amount of daily or weekly usage with devin is not transparent at all. it's just a "trust us you won't hit your limit, when you do it will cost extra". is this how all other services operate these days?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1x4z6gn/moving_to_devin/pghvpjm/)

#### Unclear which models and pools a plan covers

- Claude Code, 2026-10-15, @ClaudeDevs (X): “the fact that @anthropicai and @claudedevs can't even get it straight that fable does not have separate usage. their usage page will tell you a different story, is it so hard? [link]” [source](https://twitter.com/39222239/status/2110526845733265623)
- Cursor, 2026-10-14, r/cursor (Reddit): “yeah not able to understand the pricing,i downgraded to 20 dollar plan, and i am able to see similar 20 dollar included cursor 20 dollar api” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1x51s6g/comment/pgpvins/)
- Cursor, 2026-10-14, @cursor_ai (X): “@darekgusto @x @cursor_ai these plans are so confusing, but my cursor is renewing tomorrow so i will have to check it out.” [source](https://twitter.com/723754228238438400/status/2110357500952559797)

#### Advertised model price misstates plan consumption

- Claude Code, 2026-10-07, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “"around 75% less to run" is a stat about their traffic mix, not about my bill. my requests are the long ones, and an average tells me nothing about those.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x03lg8/introducing_claude_haiku_55_the_cheapest_fastest/peh9pb2/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-04, r/codex (Reddit): “i did the math like tibo said, and the usage on the 100 usd plan is now around half of what it was in api equivalent cost. i just spent multiple resets to confirm. but they only mentioned it for the 200 usd plan... they need to be more transparent...” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wx7v9j/we_are_locking_in/pdv8zzn/)

#### Tier multiplier labels overstate real allowance

- OpenCode, 2026-10-08, @opencode (X): “@opencode before purchasing the opencode go plus package, check the limits. this is a trap; you are not getting the 4xgo plan by paying $40, they are just calling it plus to sell you the 2xgo for $40. this is nonsense.” [source](https://twitter.com/1571148109954023424/status/2108084844844728509)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-29, r/codex (Reddit): “nothing major, but it was already changed to standard/more yesterday. i guess they can't decide on a naming pattern. how unlike openai. plus a banked reset was just added.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wtf1e2/pro_account_naming_changed_to_100200_and_reset/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-28, r/codex (Reddit): “i wasn't worried about that until they also removed the 5/20x wording in the subscription. could've been fine if it was 60x+ priority or whatever, but no, they gotta get shady with it.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1ws4dp4/tibo_your_resets_have_no_effect_anymore/pcilezx/)

#### Promotions and resets with hidden conditions

- Google Antigravity, 2026-10-16, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “i used to pay the pro plan, when i bought a pixel phone they offered me the pro plan for free. if i knew it was different i would have chose the paid one. they are really making me so angry. what the fuck are they doing? how can you be so disrespectful??? fucking assholes” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1x708ez/gemini_4_argon_now_available_on_paid_google_ai_pro/ph27tvs/)

#### Docs, dashboard and invoice figures disagree

- Cursor, 2026-10-13, @cursor_ai (X): “@cursor_ai judging by other comments on this post, looks like a botched launch from the team here … also i’ve been using cursor ultra for over 18 months and have no idea how to read or understand this new pricing” [source](https://twitter.com/493751950/status/2109918742239207678)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-09, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “already did. it says to topup credits... i don't understand this company lol” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x1soex/how_to_use_the_api_credits/pewd5z3/)
- Cursor, 2026-10-09, @cursor_ai (X): “@cursor_ai can we directly see the context size and estimated cost of the next request in the chat? when crossing the line of 100,000 tokens, it's hard to realize that the pricing tier has changed just by looking at the model name.” [source](https://twitter.com/3107805112/status/2108502158639526109)

#### Upgrade, proration and renewal terms not shown

- Cursor, 2026-10-01, @cursor_ai (X): “@cursor_ai, your billing policies are as clear as mud. if i have used my entire month's credits and i upgrade my plan today to the $60 per month plan, will those new credits expire in 5 days, which happens to be my next billing date? if so, this needs to be more explicit!” [source](https://twitter.com/2066215726936207360/status/2105672320891473941)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-29, r/codex (Reddit): “they don’t make it as clear as i would like. in fact, the email subject is a generic “updates to your pro plan” and they bury the lead with an euphemistic “adjusting the usage allowance” phrase.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wtlqlq/official_email_on_pro_20x_changes/pcvbnzb/)

#### Regional currency pricing inconsistent with dollar price

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-06, r/codex (Reddit): “actually we are paying more on the 200€ subscription... 200$ != 200€. the 100$ and 500$ are fx indexed but not the 200$ one.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wz0m4z/are_we_europeans_missing_out_in_the_latest_update/pe7jg6q/)

- OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-11, r/codex (Reddit): “same but forget usage it’s the fact i don’t have to be coming to this sub every day just to see the latest tibo tweets just to figure out what my weekly work flow is gonna look like.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1x303a0/what_are_they_planning_for_us/pf8tkzs/)

## Top requests

What users ask to add or change, most asked first. 883 user-weeks ask for something. Requests do not change the Feedback Score. Rule: A separate pass by a large language model reads every counted post and extracts what the user asks the agent or its vendor to add or change, with the criteria it maps to and a short normalised wording; it does not touch the labels or the Feedback Score. A large language model groups the wordings within each criterion (the first criterion the request maps to) into themes, and a second pass merges themes that ask for the same change under different criteria; a merged theme sits under the criterion most of its requests map to, and code counts it once. A theme counts distinct user-weeks that ask for it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Themes asked in fewer than 2 user-weeks, and requests that share no theme, are not shown. Examples: up to 3 posts per theme from different users, without slurs: whole posts of 60 to 450 characters with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, posts of at most 280 characters first, then the newest.

### 1. Published exact usage limits per plan

- Factory, 2026-10-18, @droid (X): “@droid they should be more transparent about how their usage limits work in each plan.” [source](https://twitter.com/1525101116/status/2111844066543473021)
- Cursor, 2026-10-17, @cursor_ai (X): “@grok @cursor_ai @x so the new plan for $30 is how much more usage / tokens than legacy pro? the other grok and x benefits are helpful but not worth the 50% premium atm.” [source](https://twitter.com/35898265/status/2111457782901731503)

### 2. Disclosure of usage limit changes

- Claude Code, 2026-10-17, @ClaudeDevs (X): “claude max 5x/opus users: did effective usage change on oct 16? reports say 5h limits drain faster. anthropic’s artifact promo (50% less 5h usage for eligible messages) ended oct 15—not a weekly-limit bonus. @claudeai @anthropicai @claudedevs: please clarify. [link]” [source](https://twitter.com/2071652590773755905/status/2111351334859428216)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-11, r/codex (Reddit): “every time they’ve said they’ve increased the limits x2 it’s been a lie. so no thank you.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1x303a0/what_are_they_planning_for_us/pf8dnz0/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-08, r/codex (Reddit): “bro, read through this thread. 90% of the people here think this means you're getting less usage for your money on codex. so clearly nobody here is getting it. you can say that's because they're all stupid, but be that as it may, they are still being mislead evidently.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wz71j1/is_this_true/pelf8ua/)

### 3. Simpler, clearer pricing structure

- Google Antigravity, 2026-10-16, @antigravity (X): “@antigravity your ai plans are confusing again. it's better to just simplify things.” [source](https://twitter.com/94993679/status/2111197495355154551)
- Devin, 2026-10-13, r/cursor (Reddit): “yeah i wish devin’s site had more info on this. it’s super super vague” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1x57zof/comment/pgkjqla/)
- Cursor, 2026-10-07, @cursor_ai (X): “@poteto @theo newer to your ecosystem, coming from heavy anthropic use. my gap is understanding how @grok, grok @bot and @cursor_ai fit together, not just the workflow but the pricing and subscriptions too. a simple map of that would help a lot of us switching over.” [source](https://twitter.com/1737496501088034816/status/2107937890865131769)

### 4. Accurate definition of plan usage multipliers

- Claude Code, 2026-10-15, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “my understanding is the 20 has less than 2x the 5 for session limits, but closer to 3x the 5 for the total week limits holy shit what a stupid sentence that is lol why don’t they just make the names accurate” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x6eiab/4x_max_5x_or_2x_max_20x/pgur672/)
- Cursor, 2026-10-12, @cursor_ai (X): “@cursor_ai paid ultra ($200). plan page says "20x usage limits", but ~$42 of opus already shows 34% of other models, which means only ~$124. two months ago on ultra it was ~$400. support ticket t-g89646 refused to fix it or explain what "20x" means. please look into this. ### 5. Disclosure of served model quantization

- OpenCode, 2026-10-17, @opencode (X): “hey @thdxr and @adamdotdev , possible to know which deepkseek v4.1 version do you provider for zen and go? cannot find on the @opencode website. always the latest like 1017?” [source](https://twitter.com/1169199901089161217/status/2111452554538127739)
- OpenCode, 2026-10-14, r/opencode (Reddit): “i wish providers were more transparent about there changes. even a small update explaining what happens would save everyone so much guessing.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1x5cyn5/big_pickle_worked_great_for_36_hours_now_is_back/pgnhxwj/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-10-11, r/codex (Reddit): “yeah, especially the transparency about what exactly you get for your money or the transparency when usage is suddenly reduced and let's not forget the transparency about what kind of quantization we are getting” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1x2v0gn/nova_also_interesting_numerical_patterns_in_the/pfat92p/)

### 6. Published per-model and per-token pricing

- Cursor, 2026-10-08, @cursor_ai (X): “@cursor_ai yeah but cursor charges $0.25/m on top of the model provider's price why is this not included in posts like this? @ftc” [source](https://twitter.com/2018327341399789569/status/2108052571600339010)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-30, r/codex (Reddit): “the problem is that this is based on api pricing and we don't know what multiplier each of those models uses on subscription.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wu4c5l/replacing_56_luna_max/pczvedp/)
- OpenAI Codex, 2026-09-29, r/codex (Reddit): “how are people (including openai) claiming it is cheaper but if you compare sol 6.0 to 6.1 in [[link] it'll show you the pricing is identical. for all we know, 6.1 could be 6.0 relabeled :)” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wtln6a/has_anyone_tried_sol_61_on_a_real_project_yet/pcvjbr9/)

### 7. Clear shared usage pool labeling

- Claude Code, 2026-10-15, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs why it’s not indicated in claude code that it uses more usage like how you mention for max effort ?” [source](https://twitter.com/1994924372906381312/status/2110834075057758330)
- Cursor, 2026-10-10, @cursor_ai (X): “@melvindvivas @cursor_ai @grok @bot all have different meters. perhaps they should be pooled. i think many of us are spending a lot of time porting work between them … to manage usage ,,, instead of using them.” [source](https://twitter.com/401720049/status/2108765187440283716)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-08, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “tricky wording, it's not additional usage limits, they also just track fable usage separately from your total usage - which still includes fable. this also confused me recently, i agree they should make it more clear.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x0wum7/shouldnt_fable_have_a_separate_weekly_limit/peou56r/)

### 8. Clear statement of what each plan includes

### 9. Lower pricing for specific models

### 11. Clear official announcements of pricing changes

- Claude Code, 2026-10-18, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs frankly speaking, it's not that ai is a black box and lacks transparency, but rather that the companies handling it are the ones making it lack transparency, which means the companies are terrible. i think they should clearly state anything if there is something.” [source](https://twitter.com/1456128631382495232/status/2111740791022592117)

### 12. Pay-as-you-go pricing option

- Cursor, 2026-10-14, r/cursor (Reddit): “i'm all ears. i asked ai what i should do and it told me cline. i want to just subscribe to something like claude code and use it just like i do cursor - change the models to cheaper/more expensive based on what i'm working on and just pay a fixed, monthly fee.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1x4zgyj/need_help_migrating_to_claude/pgs0txy/)

## Posts

Receipts rule: Up to 5 praise and 5 complaint posts per area and 3 per criterion. Each is a whole post of 60 to 450 characters (700 for areas) with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, that judges the criterion, whose labels are all praise or all complaint, and that contains no slur. Posts that touch the fewest criteria come first, then posts of at most 280 characters, then the newest. A second large language model reads the first 3 candidates per slot and keeps a post only if it clearly praises, or clearly complains about, the agent on that criterion. Links and personal details removed by the source show as marks such as [link].

- Praise, 2026-09-24, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs the $100 pro and $250 max one-time credits are very straightforward. i can continue running claude code after closing my mac, and the background execution is finally somewhat practical.” [source](https://twitter.com/2024314068967026688/status/2102936658241028328)
- Praise, 2026-09-14, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “they in no uncertain terms said "this is the very specific end date of the promotion, this is whats happening going forward" and yet people are shocked. yes thats a bit ridiculous. and yes claudes usage limits are still miles above chatgpt, i'm subbed to both...” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wfwl6k/the_limits_have_been_reduced_even_further_now_its/p9u19ur/)

### OpenCode

- Praise, 2026-09-21, r/opencode (Reddit): “it’s not unclear. it’s very clear and it’s not disproportionately it’s right there in the table how much they charge for tokens in/out. full allowance is honored exactly as advertised. i get $60 of the model i use every month.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1wm9bg1/monthly_limit_on_go/pb5m0eb/)

- Complaint, 2026-10-08, @opencode (X): “@opencode before purchasing the opencode go plus package, check the limits. this is a trap; you are not getting the 4xgo plan by paying $40, they are just calling it plus to sell you the 2xgo for $40. this is nonsense.” [source](https://twitter.com/1571148109954023424/status/2108084844844728509)

### Cursor

- Praise, 2026-09-07, r/cursor (Reddit): “i pay 20 a month for pro and finish my work without hitting limits. everything is in the subscription. you get your requests and no hidden costs show up on your card. if you go over the fast requests it just slows down. for grok i use the bot in chat to research docs before i write code. it works for that. you can add open weight providers in the settings under models. i run local models through ollama when i want zero cost on big files” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1w9udb4/is_cursor_worth_it/p8dur2j/)
