## The brief

Written by large language models from this page's numbers and the posts it quotes, then checked: every number in the text is in the build. Interpretation, not measurement.

Claude Code is chosen for the work it does and criticised for what that work costs. Users describe a tool that takes on large, complex coding tasks and keeps track of project context. It ranks 1st of 17 coding agents. Quality of work is 38.8% of what its users rate, against 26.3% for other agents. Pricing and limits takes a similar share, and there complaints outnumber praise. Long replies and support that is hard to reach also pull it down. Against Codex it is almost even, 845 posts to 823. Users prefer it to Cursor, Antigravity and Copilot, and prefer OpenCode and Pi to it.

### Why people choose it

- **Handles large, complex coding tasks** ([Quality of work](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/work.md)). 4th: of 14 on “Quality of work”. 39% of what users rate. Users describe it building complex parts of a project from scratch and running several tickets at once in separate work trees. Some keep a second agent for heavy but simple work, and say they need Claude for the technical part.
  Evidence:
  - 2026-10-18, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “it has used exactly stripe in my project. the project also has a complex part of the ui and after it got pretty far into building it i checked what library it was using, nothing, made from scratch. i was impressed.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8ufrn/i_ran_claude_code_118_times_on_blank_repos_to_see/phgbk0t/)
  - 2026-10-18, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “local. work trees are elite. i can do 5 tickets simultaneously including the browser testing on different ports. claude handles it all.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8udkc/just_got_claude_pro_for_work_how_do_i_actually/phg18j2/)
- **Plans carry many users through heavy work** ([Pricing and limits](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/paying.md)). 7th: of 13 on “Pricing and limits”. 39% of what users rate. Many users say a Pro or Max plan lasts days of heavy coding, and some say a week. Others run out fast. Users who keep sessions small say the quota lasts longer.
  Evidence:
  - 2026-10-18, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “idk how yall burn so fast im on max x5 code for 8 hours a day and im only at 45% of my limit” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x9au2z/tokens_burning_fast/phjs8a4/)
  - 2026-10-18, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “in my experience claude lasts 3-4 days while i can get trough my weekly limit in 1 day on astra. but astra lately had many weekly resets. im sticking with claude.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8wcgu/claude_pro_vs_chatgpt_plus_codex_which_is_better/phgbb0c/)
- **Follows project rules and keeps context** ([Instructions and context](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/context.md)). 1st: of 11 on “Instructions and context”. 12% of what users rate. Users say one line in a CLAUDE.md file stops an unwanted behaviour for a long time. They describe compaction that keeps long workflows going, and some say they no longer worry about it. A few still write plans down rather than rely on memory across sessions.
  Evidence:
  - 2026-10-18, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i've had one line in my vault's claude.md for ages now and it hasn't even tried to do this since.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8vtr8/hey_claude_its_about_time_you_stop/phg8f5h/)
  - 2026-10-17, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “auto compact is great for long workflows. not sure where all the hate is coming from” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8ech8/calling_out_every_claude_code_pro_running_long/phca8ce/)

### Why people leave

- **Replies run long and are hard to read** ([Concise, clear replies](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/work.response_verbosity.md)). 9.1×: 3% of what users rate, 9.1× the rate for other agents. Ranks 3rd of 3 on “Concise, clear replies”. Posts describe walls of text, explanations of things users already know, and odd half sentences. Users add instructions such as "be brief" or trim the output themselves. Some say the change came suddenly.
  Evidence:
  - 2026-10-14, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “there's still value in including "you are an x", because it cuts out the fluff, and skips the paragraphs of explainer text. i like to read as i go along, and i get tired of claude constantly assuming i need an eli5 for stuff i already know.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x1ngif/is_prompt_engineering_still_a_thing/pgpvc3i/)
  - 2026-10-12, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i noticed the same thing today. all of the sudden it was harder to read the answers and i had to start using "explain in simple terms, be brief". so it seems something did change.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x470at/theory_on_opus_55_language_degradation/pfhm8d1/)
- **Support is hard to reach when accounts break** ([Support and account](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/account.md)). 938 : 91: complaints to praise, in user-weeks. Ranks 9th of 11 on “Support and account”. Posts describe bans with no clear reason, payments that did not activate a plan, and refunds turned down. Users say the support bot cannot fix their problem and they find no other channel.
  Evidence:
  - 2026-10-17, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs my api credits are not reflecting in my console account. i have tried chatting with your support agent, but it says it cannot resolve it. i am unable to find any other support channel” [source](https://twitter.com/1794629053766668288/status/2111422660441944519)
  - 2026-10-18, @ClaudeDevs (X): “hi @claudeai @anthropicai @claudedevs , my payment for claude pro was successful, but the subscription wasn’t activated. i’d kindly request a full refund to my original payment method.i can share the payment receipt privately. please process my refund asap.” [source](https://twitter.com/1809574068779450368/status/2111795135059210426)
- **Code review loops on nitpicks** ([Code review finds real bugs](https://feedbackbench.com/coding-agents/criteria/verify.agent_code_review.md)). 1.5×: 2% of what users rate, 1.5× the rate for other agents. Ranks 4th of 4 on “Code review finds real bugs”. Users say its reviewer always finds something, adds many small comments to pull requests, and never signs off when it reviews its own fixes. Several hand the review to another provider's model.
  Evidence:
  - 2026-09-27, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “the problem with reviews is, that claude will always find something. had a talk with my colleagues about that and we all agreed on that.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1wropen/i_keep_hitting_usage_limits_on_20x_plan_have/pcei3f2/)
  - 2026-10-17, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “default code-review is a nitpicky mofo.. i had to tell it to chill with the nits because it created like 20 of them per pr and this one time i created a feedback loop between a fix agent and code-review, the pr ended up eith 150 comments and the most bloated code there is” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x80fas/how_do_you_actually_review_claude_codes_diffs/ph8ziir/)

### Head to head

- **Claude Code vs OpenAI Codex**: Claude Code ahead in 845 of 1668 posts that pick a side, 790 even. Almost even. Claude Code leads in 845 posts and Codex in 823. Users favour Codex on token use, resets and finishing without help, and Claude Code on coding. In Claude Code's own subreddit, Codex leads 618 to 449.
  - 2026-10-17, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “honestly i have this with claude but to a luch less extent with codex. because is constantly producing new tickets, new edge cases, just another backup and restart, ... constantly asking for my intervention. i have the impression that codex just finishes.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x8ckey/burnout_risk_for_developers_is_it_just_me/phbltx3/)
  - 2026-10-16, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “guys, i have to say that claude is miles ahead of codex 😱😱😱. how have i lived before?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x7cp4x/claude_pro_referral/ph3kg9o/)
- **Claude Code vs Cursor**: Claude Code ahead in 167 of 277 posts that pick a side, 91 even. Claude Code leads, 167 posts to 110. Users credit its usage allowance. Cursor's side cites mixing models, cheaper light work and seeing diffs. In Claude Code's own subreddit, Cursor leads 42 to 32.
  - 2026-10-17, r/cursor (Reddit): “claude code has been amazing. miss not being able to watch the code changes, but not enough to not be able to use opus at the usage level they provide.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1x7iwof/weekone_cursor_user_here_did_the_new_tiers_make/ph7pfjk/)
  - 2026-10-12, r/cursor (Reddit): “i use both, but cursor is just for reading now. claude code makes the edits in the terminal, then i open the diff in cursor before i commit. that's where i catch the stuff it changed that i never asked for.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1x3r2hw/anyone_still_using_cursor_next_to_claude_code/pfen4da/)
- **Claude Code vs OpenCode**: Claude Code ahead in 44 of 134 posts that pick a side, 73 even. OpenCode leads, 90 posts to 44. Users prefer its harness and the option to mix models when limits run out. Claude Code's side cites the value of its $20 plan. In OpenCode's own subreddit, Claude Code leads 23 to 22.
  - 2026-10-07, r/opencode (Reddit): “i prefer opencode 1000 times, in fact, what the claude code harness has, i already have in opencode, so i would only end up with a worse harness.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1wzb4oy/is_opencode_still_worth_it_against_20_claude/peg82lo/)
  - 2026-10-14, r/opencode (Reddit): “just use opus 5.5 on medium with claude code $20 plan for most tasks. one shots most taks, and better usage than any of the top models on opencode go” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1x60c0d/how_to_know_which_model_works_best_each_repo/pgr6hsl/)
- **Claude Code vs Google Antigravity**: Claude Code ahead in 96 of 131 posts that pick a side, 31 even. Claude Code leads, 96 posts to 35. Users say it gets things right more often and fixes bugs more thoroughly. Some moved over after Google changed Antigravity. Antigravity's side says Flash gets more work out of a subscription.
  - 2026-10-13, r/google_antigravity (Reddit): “sadly i have to agree. claude code gets stuff right more often, and fixes bugs more thoroughly. ultimately at this point it's a better use of time and money.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1x51bhz/just_get_claude_code_btw/pgigmoi/)
- **Claude Code vs GitHub Copilot**: Claude Code ahead in 54 of 84 posts that pick a side, 30 even. Claude Code leads, 54 posts to 30. Users call Copilot far behind and say company contracts keep it in use. Copilot's side cites granular diffs and pricing that is not per token.
  - 2026-10-10, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “claude code and codex make ghcp irrelevant as long as microsoft doesn't have a compelling subscription plan to compete with them. our team of 10 developers will be cancelling our ghcp plan at the end of the month because no one uses it anymore.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1x1p53u/are_they_gonna_shut_down_vscode_copilot_what_kind/pezaszk/)
  - 2026-10-04, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “the granular diff is literally the only reason i use copilot over claude code” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wxectl/new_updated_ui_for_vscode_github_copilot_screws/pdwcb7f/)
- **Claude Code vs Pi**: Claude Code ahead in 8 of 36 posts that pick a side, 13 even. Pi leads, 28 posts to 8. Users who switched call Claude Code bloated and hard to see into. They also say Pi costs less per task.
  - 2026-10-13, r/PiCodingAgent (Reddit): “the reason i use pi is because claude code is bloated and non-transparent, so whats the point of configuring it back? the magic is mostly on the llm side, and harness should be as thin and as cost efficient as possible.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/PiCodingAgent/comments/1x43is7/how_to_set_up_pi_like_claude_code/pgf675q/)
  - 2026-10-13, r/PiCodingAgent (Reddit): “thanks! frankly i just wanted something for work that isn’t claude code since we’re constrained on api usage at the moment. this as well as just normal base pi are ~2x cheaper on costs per task generally compared to claude code.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/PiCodingAgent/comments/1x547li/dev_workflow_beyond_traditional_harnesses/pgk5wxf/)

### What would move its score

Rule: For each area where an agent's customer love is below the category norm: the Feedback Score and rank it would have if that one area were at the norm (0.5) and everything else stayed the same, computed with the same formula as the ranking. An area's pull follows its weight, so an area many users of the category rate moves the score more than one they rarely mention.

| Area at the category norm | Feedback Score | Change | Position |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account and support | 68.7 | +0.2 | 1st of 17 |
| Checking and finishing | 68.6 | +0.0 | 1st of 17 |

No single area moves the score far. Bringing Support and account up to the category norm would add 0.2 points, to 68.7. Doing the same for Checking the work adds 0.0. Claude Code stays 1st either way.

### Six weeks

Users fell from 10,045 to 7,183 in the second week, then rose to 11,695 in the week Claude Opus 5.5 launched. Rank climbed from 15th to 1st by that week and stayed there. Share peaked at 38%, then users fell to 8,106.

## Top requests

What users ask to add or change, most asked first. 6070 user-weeks ask for something. Requests do not change the Feedback Score. Rule: A separate pass by a large language model reads every counted post and extracts what the user asks the agent or its vendor to add or change, with the criteria it maps to and a short normalised wording; it does not touch the labels or the Feedback Score. A large language model groups the wordings within each criterion (the first criterion the request maps to) into themes, and a second pass merges themes that ask for the same change under different criteria; a merged theme sits under the criterion most of its requests map to, and code counts it once. A theme counts distinct user-weeks that ask for it, per agent; across agents, one user-week per agent. Themes asked in fewer than 2 user-weeks, and requests that share no theme, are not shown. Examples: up to 3 posts per theme from different users, without slurs: whole posts of 60 to 450 characters with at least 8 words beyond handles and links, posts of at most 280 characters first, then the newest.

### 3. Higher overall usage limits

- Claude Code, 2026-10-10, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i'm gonna need an extra 20x i used 40% in the first 2 days. weds i was on 84% 🤣” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x1txcw/2x_pro_subs_worth_it/peyo6xx/)

### 4. Banked resets usable on demand

- Claude Code, 2026-10-15, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “given codex / tibo is handing out resets like no tomorrow claude needs to give us a banked reset this week.. please!” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x6l3rk/need_banked_reset/)

- Claude Code, 2026-10-15, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “i do think that one banked reset per month of subscription would be pleasant, just because if that one week we have that comes from hell. but over at openai it's turned into some sort of dopamine hit gaming addiction to random resets.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x6l3rk/need_banked_reset/pgwm41d/)

### 5. Remove the 5-hour usage window

- Claude Code, 2026-10-13, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@trq212 @claudedevs isn't it possible to make the 5h limits go away like codex? sometimes i work a lot in 5h and reaches the limits but most of time i stay within the limits. it would be nice so i can stay on the flow and finish the tasks instead of wait for the reset.” [source](https://twitter.com/991182752/status/2110082702171115933)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-09, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs remove the 5-hour limits, i don't understand why we should have usage limits apart from our week.” [source](https://twitter.com/1624125094409666600/status/2108347167538876620)
- Claude Code, 2026-10-08, r/codex (Reddit): “if claude code would remove the 5-hr limit on their max plans then the choice would be a no-brainer. but until they do, codex has a genuine advantage for sizeable tasks.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1x07or9/opus_55_sucks_do_not_migrate_to_claude/pepmwr3/)

### 6. Stop silently degrading model quality

### 11. Restore previous usage limits

### 12. Higher allowance on top-tier plans

- Claude Code, 2026-10-15, @ClaudeDevs (X): “@claudedevs speed was never my bottleneck. i'm on 3 max 20x subs and still hitting the weekly limit. give me more usage before you give me more speed.” [source](https://twitter.com/18993867/status/2110861950553100642)

- Claude Code, 2026-10-11, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “isn't it kind of weird that the max 20x plan is also $200 a month... are they genuinely thinking about moving towards just giving credits when you buy the plan? that might genuinely be the downfall of claude” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1x31yts/claude_max_20x_now_get_200_in_free_api_credits/pf8cllg/)

## Ranks highest on

Can do the user's kind of task (1st of 13), Quality got worse or better over time (1st of 7), Usage meter visibility and accuracy (1st of 6)

## Ranks lowest on

Safety filters block legitimate coding tasks (5th of 5), Cloud and remote sandbox execution (4th of 5), Using an existing subscription across tools (7th of 8)

Position on a criterion: its place among the agents with at least 30 rated user-weeks there, ordered by customer love. It ranks high when both its position and its 95% interval put it in the top half, low when both put it in the bottom half; neither otherwise, or when fewer than 4 agents qualify.

## All 63 criteria

Criterion love: 0.5 is the category norm. n: rated user-weeks.

### Paying and limits: 7th of 13 (customer love 0.525, n 9521)

Users rate this more than any other area, and complaints outnumber praise. The quota running out draws the most complaints, then plan value. Plan value also draws the most praise here. It ranks 1st on both cutoffs mid-task and reset timing, though complaints outnumber praise on each.
