## The brief

Written by Claude Opus 5.5 from 75 labelled posts and the numbers on this page. Interpretation, not measurement: every quote is verbatim and links to its post.

**Great model menu, weaker harness, and credits that keep shrinking.**

TL;DR:

- One subscription reaches OpenAI, Anthropic and other models, and users swap them freely per task.
- The harness trails native tools; users report shallower answers and patches that stop before validation.
- Plan changes cut allowances quietly, and auto routing can pick expensive models that drain credits.

### What hurts

- **Harness lags the models it runs** ([Can do the user's kind of task](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/work.capability.md)). Task capability is the one area rated worse than peers. Users say the same model gives shallower answers inside Copilot, and patches stop before runtime checks.
Posts compare Copilot directly against native tools. A product manager running Claude Sonnet in Copilot chat reports answers far less deep than native Claude on the same model (e13). Others call it a weak harness that fails at debugging much of the time.

One user offers a mechanism. Copilot caps turn budgets and context assembly to keep token spend bounded, so it often drafts a patch and never validates runtime behaviour (e19).
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/windsurf, 2026-09-27: “they are not in the same class of capability. copilot is not a very good harness” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/windsurf/comments/1wr7p7l/why_isnt_windsurf_available_in_vscode_anymore/pcd4mf5/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-12: “hey everyone, i’m a product manager and my company uses github copilot for work. because of my role, i rely heavily on llms for high level strategy and research rather than just pumping out lines of code. i use native claude constantly outside of work, so i am very familiar with the depth at which claude “thinks.” lately, i've been selecting the claude sonnet model directly inside copilot chat. however, i’ve noticed a massive gap. even when running the exact same model, copilot does not give me the deep and analytical answers that native claude does. for those of you using copilot for product management or any kind of strategy: what are you doing to make copilot act more like native claude?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1we096r/making_copilot_think_like_native_claude/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/devops, 2026-09-12: “i find copilot being useless 50-60% of the time to debug, and writing useless code” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/devops/comments/1we0cu1/thoughts_on_the_role_of_devops_in_the_aicentric/p9fidam/)
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/ChatGPTCoding, 2026-09-02: “the difference mostly comes down to harness autonomy and verification loops rather than the raw model weights. claude code leans heavily into multi-turn bash execution, file patching, and running test commands iteratively until the diff actually passes, which naturally burns 2–3x more tokens per task. copilot caps turn budgets and context assembly more aggressively to keep token spend bounded, but the tradeoff is that it often stops after drafting the initial patch rather than validating runtime behavior.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPTCoding/comments/1w4lm3b/claude_code_vs_github_copilot_token_burn/p7dda3c/)

- **Allowances shrank without a heads-up** ([Price, allowance or plan terms changed](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/limits.allowance_change.md), [How much use a plan's price buys](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/limits.plan_value.md), [Pricing and plan terms stated clearly and consistently](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/billing.pricing_clarity.md)). Allowance changes draw almost nothing but complaints. Users report included credits cut mid-cycle, with an over-budget alert as the only notice.
One team saw its included credits drop with no email. They found out when the over-budget alert fired. A Claude Code user describes the recent change as a steep jump in token costs. Former defenders now rate Copilot's value below competitors after the pricing change, and say lower tiers offer thin model choice.

The requests follow the pain. Users want unused credits to roll over for a month and want higher overall limits.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-07: “last months we had about 9000 included credits, now it's only 5700 ai credits? no email or heads up, just an over budget alert” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w9szm5/did_they_just_change_the_included_credits_for/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/ClaudeCode, 2026-09-01: “to be fair in comparison to what copilot did recently ( basically increased token costs like 100x) they are angels, but yeah its wild how they roll.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1w3v068/limits_feel_off_this_week/p73ih0k/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-19: “i agreed with this until pricing changes. it's genuinely shit compared to all the competition in terms of value for money now, and on the lower tiers the model selection is shit too. it was good. it's now completely inferior to all it's competitors.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wk7lky/gpt_54_deprecation_will_legacy_yearly_subscribers/paqt4pj/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, @GitHubCopilot, 2026-09-01: “@github @githubcopilot ai credits have been disappearing way faster since the plan changes 😅 if we’ve still got a few percent left at the end of the month, could you at least let us roll it over for one more month? not forever. just one month. feels like a pretty reasonable middle ground, especially with how fast credits burn now. anyone else want this? 👀” [source](https://twitter.com/1608370730114387969/status/2094800338230603821)

- **Auto mode picks pricey models** ([Automatic model routing and fallback](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/models.routing_auto.md), [Single prompt, model or effort level consumes disproportionate quota](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/limits.burn_rate.md)). Users cannot see or limit which model Auto chooses. A cheap task can land on a premium, credit-hungry model.
Users report Auto selecting Opus. Another poster says Opus burns tokens at an incredible rate. One user asks GitHub to remove an older model because it is 'destroying the auto router'. Users who run lean on cheap models worry tiered Auto will drift upward and cost more than choosing manually.

The top asks are to exclude specific models from routing, to allow manual selection, and to stop silent switching.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/codex, 2026-09-07: “from my experience with anyone doing automatic models, it’s never cost effective or useful. example: copilot picking opus 5 lol” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1w9mn5p/new_recommended_set_of_models_option_in_codex/p8bhfl0/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-24: “as someone that's been pretty effective using luna for most things, what's the risk of tiered auto drifting unnecessarily to more expensive models and ending up being more expensive than just selecting the model of choice?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wp1ygm/tiers_of_auto_now_available/pbs66w1/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, @GitHubCopilot, 2026-09-18: “@codexreleases ooh finally bye bye gpt-5.3-codex it was a shit and expensive model! @githubcopilot please remove it too, its destroying the auto router” [source](https://twitter.com/919568361931071488/status/2100798147601862680)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-03: “opus 5 will burn through those credits quickly. it goes through tokens at an incredible rate. which could be fine. if the 130,000 is just for you, that’s enough to use opus quite a bit. (130,000 aic=$1,300) if you’re sharing that budget with a team, you’d want to use cheaper models. the gpt 5.6 models are very reasonably priced. you could probably split that budget across a team of 10 using 5.6-luna on max with comfortable headroom. if that whole budget is for you, i recommend experimenting a bit. much of it comes down to your preferences and usage habits. personally, i find opus 5 insufferable and think the opus models have been going downhill since 4.6. but some people like them.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w5z9pr/copilot_enterprise_with_monthly_ai_credits_limit/p7j3eqo/)

- **Sessions freeze, and two apps diverge** ([Client crashes, freezes and failed tool execution](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/rel.client_failures.md), [How the interface shows work, and what the user can configure](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/ui.display_settings.md), [Updates break working setups](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/rel.update_breakage.md)). Client failures are almost all complaints. Users describe silent freezes, crashes after upgrades, and a desktop app that only partly matches the agents window.
In the Copilot app, sessions freeze with no feedback. Orphaned sessions reappear only after a restart. One large session crashed on every real task after an upgrade, and the user had to export it and start fresh (e73). Another user hit agent-window failures with Claude all day.

The desktop app and the VS Code agents window look alike but differ in features such as effort settings and skill toggles. Some users ask why both exist.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, @GitHubCopilot, 2026-09-08: “@awakecoding @githubcopilot see this a lot in the gh copilot app. frozen with zero feedback- orphaned sessions that spawn with zero feedback. often need to restart and they miraculously appear. mind you i’m using wsl which is a hell i wish i could avoid. i’d take macos or raw omarchy if i could” [source](https://twitter.com/8415972/status/2097370626826924529)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, @GitHubCopilot, 2026-09-01: “@ryan_hecht @burkeholland @githubcopilot it happened after i upgraded, i have this one huge session locally that would crash every time i would try to do real work, i exported the session file and made a new session - side note with byok you need to specify— model instead of env var, 2 regressions” [source](https://twitter.com/55700354/status/2094603340449542597)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-25: “has been happening all day to me running claude in the vscode agent window.... and i was so happy to just have found the agent window functionality :( any issue created yet in github one can follow?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1usonz3/vscode_agents_window_seems_to_get_stuck/pbyusn8/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-04: “the gui looks eerily similar and they seem to have a lot of the same functionality. so what’s the point of having both? infact, the app seems like an after thought, hasn’t been updated in almost 10 days and seems to be missing a lot of basic features. seems like it is just to tick a box to say that they have a standalone desktop app like codex and claude ?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w744q3/whats_the_different_between_vscode_agents_window/)

### What works

- **One subscription, many model families** ([Which models are offered on a plan and when](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/models.catalog_access.md)). Model access rates better than peers. One plan reaches several vendors' models, and users mix them by price and strength.
Users like picking Anthropic or OpenAI models under one subscription. They also note the app ships Codex and Claude SDK harnesses alongside its own. Posts rank models openly. One user calls Opus a beast but says mid-tier GPT and Gemini models now beat Sonnet and Haiku on value. A Hermes agent user praises swapping models mid-session and giving spawned agents their own settings.

The gap is at the cheap end. Users keep asking for DeepSeek and GLM.
  Evidence:
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-01: “since ghcp comes not only with its own harness but also codex and claude sdk (= claude code) as well i wouldn't see a reason to restrict myself only to anthropic models.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w4ljfs/claude_code_vs_github_copilot_token_burn/p79bkal/)
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-27: “sonnet 5 kinda sucks, honestly. opus is a beast, but the low/mid tier models have gotten really good lately. . . except with anthropic/claude. haiku is basically garbage compared to the competition (gemini 3.8 flash, gpt luna (xhigh)), and even sonnet struggles in most cases compared to them, while also being a good bit more expensive. gh copilot is great for having access to multiple models. at this point, the only claude model worth touching is opus 5.5, and even then gpt sol is often a better choice (almost as smart, still a decent bit cheaper).” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wr5io2/best_cheaper_alternative/pcehg00/)
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/vibecoding, 2026-09-16: “never tried codex. use claude code (at home) and github copilot (at work). much prefer the copilot user experience than the claude code experience. also with github copilot i can use anthropic or openai models. i keep claude at home because of the subvention. i understand that openai is also good for that for individuals.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/vibecoding/comments/1whgeuy/literally_any_reason_to_use_claude_code_instead/pa2gvvm/)
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-06: “i’m using ghcp credits via hermes agent and it’s been pretty fucking awesome. almost completely out of claude desktop after about a week of tooling it. it’s wonderful being able to easily swap models, do so mid session, spawn bots/agents with their own model settings. can control my machine as much as i let it. full disclosure, i put the backend on my linux box and connect desktop over lan, so it’s not actively controlling my windows desktop - but it can, and does awesome with ubuntu 26.04.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w9a0ft/computer_use_using_github_copilot_credits_where/p88xgx3/)

- **Cheap models stretch the credit pool** ([How much use a plan's price buys](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/limits.plan_value.md), [Subagents, parallel agents and orchestrators](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/work.multi_agent_orchestration.md)). Paying and limits rates better than peers, largely because users find low-cost models like Luna good enough for routine work. They save premium models for planning.
Luna comes up again and again as cheap and effective. An enterprise user runs research and most fixes on Luna and keeps Opus for planning. Power users orchestrate, with planners on a stronger model and nested sessions on Luna. One says this uses fewer tokens than Codex. An individual on a Max plan reports doing fine by not running top models on every task.

The value holds for users who manage model choice actively.
  Evidence:
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-03: “luna is incredibly cheap and surprisingly effective for a lot of useful work” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w5i0sx/one_msft_employee_reaches_100k_mo_in_token/p7ivav6/)
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-23: “my company started "unlimited". that lasted a month. target usage is $200/mo, or <zip_code> credits. if you go above, they want to know what you're working on in order to get an increase. no one has gotten rejected yet, but they are tracking where it's going. companies are learning what typical usage is expected to look like. i can say that if you are using opus for everything and paying api rates, you're overspending. gpt-6 luna is not bad at all for research and most fixes. still use opus for planning sometimes, but it doesn't have to be the grunt.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1woeusl/github_copilot_opus_47_usage_and_cost_details/pbndrlf/)
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/codex, 2026-09-20: “i proxy my pro 20x sub inside github copilot app. orchestration is confusing but ridiculously powerful and less tokens than codex. waits for messages not wasteful timers (unless you tell it to). i usually have chief of staff on sol, planners on sol, then everything else nested sessions on luna and orchestrating in the background.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wlffmo/is_codex_itself_really_the_best_harness_to_use/pay5h0y/)
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-02: “that's like 200,000 ai credits per month for $2k/month. if they don't know how to efficiently use that in a month; maybe they should find another job. using claude fable/chatgpt sol to do every task is stupid in the first place. and like you said, money goes to other companies and not right back to microsoft. that's probably why microsoft ai happened honestly; or part of the reason. i do just fine on the github copilot max $100/month plan as a private individual. and that's just 20,000 ai credits.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w5i0sx/one_msft_employee_reaches_100k_mo_in_token/p7fftrz/)

- **Deep editor hooks and visible terminals** ([IDE and editor integration](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/setup.ide_integration.md), [How the interface shows work, and what the user can configure](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/ui.display_settings.md)). IDE integration splits evenly. Users praise the native diff-and-apply loop, direct access to IntelliJ inspections, and agent terminals they can watch and cancel.
One reviewer recommends Copilot for inline completion plus chat edits. The native 'click apply, see diff' loop beats extension-based rivals, and caps are predictable. A JetBrains user values that models can read IntelliJ detections directly. A user who moved to another tool misses watching the agent's terminals in VS Code.

Visual Studio users are far less happy. One calls Copilot a third-class citizen there.
  Evidence:
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/codex, 2026-09-04: “depending on the harness you're using, the models can actually access intellij detections directly. that's a huge boost for non-compiled languages, and one thing that i appreciate about copilot.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1w73ga9/guys_please_take_care_of_your_codebases_and_stop/p7su0ao/)
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/ChatGPTCoding, 2026-09-17: “given what you've described (mostly inline completion plus chat-driven file edits, not full agent workflows), copilot pro at your price point is probably the safest fit, it's specifically built around that inline-completion-plus-chat-diff loop in vs code, which is exactly your workflow, and github's usage limits on the fixed subscription tiers are the most predictable of the three, no surprise overage behavior. claude pro's chat is stronger for reasoning through a tricky problem, but its ide integration (via extensions) is a step behind copilot's native one for the specific "click apply, see diff" loop you described. chatgpt go is newest of the three in this space and has the least track record for predictable usage caps under real coding workloads, worth being cautious there given your strict no-overage requirement.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPTCoding/comments/1wj0o96/chatgpt_go_vs_github_copilot_pro_vs_claude_pro/pafsssg/)
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/google_antigravity, 2026-09-19: “in other ides like vscode + copilot i can inspect the terminals the agent uses to run commands. so when an agent starts a build, i can watch the progress myself, can potentially cancel etc. in antigravity i can see that the agent has a terminal open, but have no clue what is going on in it / what the progress is. when i need to know, i have to ask the agent to repeat the console output to me.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1wk1y1u/antigravity_2_release_v2150/patexny/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-08: “end your suffering and don't use copilot in vs. it's a third class citizen, for example planning mode came like one year after ot was in vscode. you don't even have to use vscode anymore, install the ghc desktop app, it integrates with vs to open files in vs (yes i mean vs not vscode). source: while i use vscode extensively i stll use vs lot because it's the tool i use since forever, i'm comfortable with it and many things are still better than vscode imo (the debugging experience for example). for for ghc it's a useless shitshow” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1waqq4w/visual_studio_thinkingreasoning_level_seems_to/p8n3gra/)

### Under the surface

- **Credit metering shapes every workflow** ([Single prompt, model or effort level consumes disproportionate quota](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/limits.burn_rate.md), [MCP servers, plugins, skills and hooks](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/setup.extensions_mcp.md), [Prompt cache hits, misses and invalidation](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/limits.prompt_cache.md)). Credits track tokens, so users ration tools, models and reviews. Features like MCP become cost decisions rather than capability ones.
Users trim their active MCP toolsets several times a day to save credits. Some call MCP costly next to plain CLI calls. Another reply warns that switching tools mid-session can break the prompt cache, which undercuts the workaround (e54). Enterprise users move implementation from Opus to Luna, while automatic PR review on every commit keeps adding cost.

This constant accounting sits behind many complaints elsewhere.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-03: “yeah mcp servers are costly simple api or cli approach is much cheaper if you can go that route” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w5i0sx/one_msft_employee_reaches_100k_mo_in_token/p7iy790/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-25: “interesting suggestions indeed and i kinda agree. i do change active toolset based on the task at hand, and that happens 2/3 times a day, as i try to minimize the tools and thus credit spending just for them. i don't like having custom agents honestly, i've always felt it was overkill and probably dangerous if i modify the agent's descriptor file.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wpctlc/vs_code_chat_users_local_or_copilot_harness/pc05siu/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-25: “do you feel that you have to micro-manage the tool enablements often? my perspective is that users should not generally have to do this- tools can already be lazy-loaded by the harness, so the agent is better at dealing with lots of tools that it used to be. also, changing the enabled set of tools can break the prompt cache in a session, making that feature sort of a footgun. another way to manage the set of tools in a session is by creating a custom agent definition with a tool set, then picking the agent based on the task in a session.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wpctlc/vs_code_chat_users_local_or_copilot_harness/pc043kk/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-06: “3000 ai credits? i think i consume more than in a single session sometimes. we are on copilot enterprise and they have set my quota for 150,000 and i am already at 42% of that within a week. i have now switched to using luna max for implementation but code review is still by opus 5 and then the pr gets reviewed on every commit again by github copilot review. the larger the pr the more the review costs each commit. i am slowly learning how to manage the credits but i am going to have to ask for a reset before the 15th and it might not be taken well.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w6zbe6/copilot_pro_am_i_missing_something/p82od8l/)

- **Enterprise pools, priced-out individuals** ([How much use a plan's price buys](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/limits.plan_value.md), [Price, allowance or plan terms changed](https://feedbackbench.com/criteria/limits.allowance_change.md)). Value now depends on who pays. Employer credit pools make Copilot workable, while private users describe it as an enterprise tool sold at API rates.
Enterprise users point to pooled credits that heavy users draw down before extra cost kicks in. They call this an edge over Claude Code enterprise. Employers set the ceiling, though. Some orgs now restrict further because they foot the bill, and allowances swing from season to season.

Private users are blunter and call Copilot essentially dead for individuals. Satisfaction here tracks employer budgets as much as product changes.
  Evidence:
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-04: “copilot is essentially dead for private users. it is a business/enterprise tools for organizations who will pay api rates. on plus side it nicely illustrates to people just how expensive compute really is and just how much direct subscriptions to ai companies are subsidized. ps. just use luna and muse 1.3 once its available. you may even get some usage out of them.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w6zbe6/copilot_pro_am_i_missing_something/p7v2m4u/)
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-01: “you have to remember that these are not deterministic tools, even using the same prompts on the same provider twice on different sessions will produce varied results making any slight cost savings negligible. i’m assuming your are evaluating enterprise plans given that’s the only way you’ll pay api prices on claude claude, so the only advantage copilot has here is that enterprise plans come with a pool of credits that you already paid for, your more intensive users can benefit from this pool before paying additional cost, claude code enterprise doesn’t have that.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w4ljfs/claude_code_vs_github_copilot_token_burn/p79313c/)
  - Complaint, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-02: “still is in my org. now that orgs are footing the bill, some are restricting further.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w5i0sx/one_msft_employee_reaches_100k_mo_in_token/p7fofhz/)
  - Praise, GitHub Copilot, r/GithubCopilot, 2026-09-22: “we have 10k, i mean it’s fine with luna but luna is kinda meh for larger planning. at least better than 1900 which we had for the summer lol” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wmy8h8/enterprise_ghcp_ai_credit_limits_is_100k_a_lot/pbdwho7/)

### Fine print

- Most posts come from r/GithubCopilot, which skews toward engaged users, many on employer-funded plans.
- Most criteria have too few posts to separate from peers. Only task capability and model access clearly differ.
- Users compare across different plans, harnesses and employer settings, so cost and quality claims are not like-for-like.

## Top requests

What users ask to add or change, most asked first. 135 author-weeks ask for something. Requests do not change the Feedback Score. Rule: A separate pass by Claude Sonnet 5 reads every counted post and extracts what the author asks the agent or its vendor to add or change, with the criteria it maps to and a short normalised wording; it does not touch the labels or the Feedback Score. Claude Opus 5.5 groups the wordings within each criterion (the first criterion the request maps to) into themes; code counts them. A theme counts distinct author-weeks that ask for it, per agent; across agents, one author-week per agent. Themes asked in fewer than 2 author-weeks, and requests that share no theme, are not shown. Examples: up to 3 posts per theme from different authors, without slurs, preferring posts of 60 to 450 characters, most recent first.

### 1. Exclude specific models from auto routing

- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-04, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “ok great. sounds like i can't exclude models from auto. but you all gave me some good suggestions. i am particularly interested in luna. i will check that out.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w6dsfp/is_there_any_way_to_ban_models_in_auto_mode/p7uhu7d/)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-04, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “i use github copilot and place it on auto, and lately i have been getting nothing but mai-code responses. it has got to be hands down the most spaghetti-instructiond outputs i have ever seen. how do i get it to stop uses that terrible model.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1tuyb89/maicode1flash_is_now_available_for_github_copilot/p7ry5g5/)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-03, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “yes please. auto can be great, but once in a while it routes to a model that is just way out of my league.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w6dsfp/is_there_any_way_to_ban_models_in_auto_mode/p7m78xb/)

### 2. Add low-cost DeepSeek and GLM models together

- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-27, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “hook up deepseek v4.1 flash and glm 5.3 flash throught their respective providers (deepseek and [z.ai](<strict_link>) )” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wr5io2/best_cheaper_alternative/pcf26a1/)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-17, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “i’ve been using luna a bunch and it is pretty good. but it does some stupid things and is at times too eager when it should elevate issues, things that my local qwen 3.8 27b / 3.6 35b a3b instances do without problem. k2.7c is better with that in my context. it would be nice to see glm or deepseek models on ghcp” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wi6ux3/kimi_27_code_deprecation_wo_similar_alternative/padzmoy/)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-02, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “still waiting for glm, deepseek... microsoft will never add them dont they” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w4uelv/claude_fable_51_is_generally_available_in_github/p7brds9/)

### 3. Higher overall usage limits

- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-22, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “this is actually a great discussion. it would be great if we could get some minimum token amount for specific workflows (eg 100k for semi-agentic, 25k for code assistance, etc). management sometimes have no idea and won’t allow higher tiers without arguments, which one can’t get without anecdotal evidence.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wmy8h8/enterprise_ghcp_ai_credit_limits_is_100k_a_lot/pbb5oor/)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-01, r/ZedEditor (Reddit): “that is so bad for me even if i use agents still i code with my hand too and predictions making it faster, peoples says hello vscode/github but 200 credit is not enough i don't want to buy openai claude copilot zed etc i already paying a lot.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ZedEditor/comments/1w105l9/edit_predictions_are_leaving_the_free_personal/p76d4dr/)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-08, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “i have the old yearly plan, and i my most used services are the basic inline completition (something is easy enough and just wireframing, codemonkey tasks so that can do it just by pressing tab with a couple of comments). the second are those hard annoying tasks, that are clearly defined, but annoying to implement; like making the ui of some api, but keeping in mind how a user behaves or making it look nice. i've found only the opus (from 4.5 whe” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1waonu2/how_to_increase_my_monthly_limits_while_still_on/)

### 4. Risk-tiered granular approval policies

- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-07, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “autopilot evaluates tool calls, bypass just bypasses them. i want the auto-evaluation and the normal question behaviour. should be a thing, imo.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1tj6v5m/plan_mode_autopilot_always_skip_all_questions/p8bjwm8/)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-17, r/AI_Agents (Reddit): ““tiered by blast radius” is probably a better description of what i was trying to get at. instead of copilot vs autopilot being binary, you could have something like: routine informational response → automatic low-risk/reversible action → automatic + spot checks higher-risk action → hard rules/limits money movement, deletion, major account change → human approval that feels much more scalable than either reviewing everything or trusting everyt” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/AI_Agents/comments/1wi9csn/are_ai_copilots_fundamentally_limited_because/pabc1cx/)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-04, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “i've been using autopilot for quite a while now because, "can i use grep? can i use sed? can i use grep and sed together?" was beyond tedious. my problem is that while tool calls are now dealt with, there are times where an agent/subagent has a valid, substantive question that needs an answer and autopilot just says something to the effect of, "no one's home. you decide." where's the thermostat to set what can be autonomous and what really ought” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w78bm8/vscode_autopilot_is_too_auto/)

### 5. Access to editor extension tools

- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-25, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “i'm seeing that tools from extension mcps are not showing in the tools page. i think they should be, so i'll check on that. you can see that the mcp server is running on the mcps page. but they are available in the session anyway: <strict_link>” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wpctlc/vs_code_chat_users_local_or_copilot_harness/pc02yyb/)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-25, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “i use toolsets with the local harness. thanks for the hint about the customization editor: i can't see tools contributed by nx, for example, which uses the `mcpserverdefinitionproviders` contribution. is that expected? and from an extension point of view, how do we ensure we are automatically available in the copilot harness?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wpctlc/vs_code_chat_users_local_or_copilot_harness/pbzvxr0/)

### 6. Bring existing subscription into this agent

- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-06, @GitHubCopilot (X): “@orenme @githubcopilot @claudeai @openai api prices are way too expensive. claude / codex subscriptions are much better priced. i loved using @githubcopilot but unless you can use it with existing subscriptions (or its models gets priced reasonably) it is not even worth looking at anymore :(” [source](https://twitter.com/1188387650408894466/status/2096465722696233172)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-08-31, r/ClaudeCode (Reddit): “<strict_link> this is what i would like, exactly the way copilot works. it's way better to inspect the edits this way. i was good with copilot and claude models until they completely ruined the plans with the new pricing model. i'd gladly use an anthropic subscription but this single feature stops me.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1w3j83b/vs_code_native_diff_view_while_using_claude_code/p70lkxa/)

### 7. Add DeepSeek V4.1 Flash model

- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-10, @GitHubCopilot (X): “@tylerleonhardt @githubcopilot @code add deepseek v4.1 to your models. your always lagging behind! 😒😔” [source](https://twitter.com/1583878322890711043/status/2098100231317696564)

### 8. Codebase visualization and documentation tools

- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-05, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “yes something like cognitions deepwiki would be tremendous. there are a ton of middling products out there but nothing as good as it, and nothing in copilot that works as well. would love that hosted in the github infrastructure too.” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w7s69c/feature_request_openwiki/p7ykegv/)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-03, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “perhaps some kind of ai-focused graph plotter like graphify (or similar) would help the ai to find these things in such a large codebase?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w6a1ui/the_vscode_harness_has_a_major_flaw_on_large/p7leftq/)

### 9. Manual model selection instead of forced routing

- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-24, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “gpt-6 luna and sol is all that most people need. that said, let the user choose as long as they are capped on usage” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wovttn/have_you_disabled_haiku/pbtdn9k/)

### 10. No silent model switching or downgrades

- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-14, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “clearly selected a local endpoint in business byok plan but it keeps switching over to expensive af models that i don't need like gemini 3.7 flash or sonnet 5 on the first message no matter which model i select. wastes so many credits and prevents me from getting my work done!” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wfprls/anyone_have_issues_with_forced_autorouting/)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-11, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “i don't understand. why did ghcp choose opus if you selected sol? or did you have some other preference?” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1vusvih/openai_pricing_updates_gpt56_sol_has_a_new_lower/p97c4mz/)

### 11. Option to restore previous UI design

- GitHub Copilot, 2026-08-31, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “can i go back to the old format? who the f thought this new ui looked better? everything on the same list, not possible to sepparate anymore from global configs and local configs can't even toggle on/off with spacebar anymore. bravo, it sucks. sorry for the rant, needed to vent” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1w3rn3x/new_mcp_ui_is_terrible/)

### 12. Per-subagent model and effort selection

- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-24, r/PiCodingAgent (Reddit): “i want to keep using pi agent as my main coding interface, but i also want claude opus 5.5 to be the main agent/orchestrator, not just a sub-agent or reviewer. i use pi agent both at work and privately. privately, my setup is simple: pi agent + codex pro. at work, i had been using pi agent + github copilot, but copilot credit usage became too expensive, so we are moving toward subscription-based access instead. i now have a claude team premium se” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/PiCodingAgent/comments/1woy2wb/can_i_keep_pi_agent_while_using_claude_opus_as_my/)
- GitHub Copilot, 2026-09-10, r/GithubCopilot (Reddit): “while i do like this update, i'm not a fan of the new chat tool ui constantly expanding and then collapsing the tool calls, kinda distracting. and i was hoping "support for selecting the session model used by built-in subagents in the copilot agent harness" would let us select luna for subagents like the vscode settings do, but instead the setting is a checkbox that look like it's for inheriting the model from the parent session, so it'll only be” [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1wbflxk/github_copilot_for_jetbrains_v1170_updates/p8uxvfj/)
